Psalm 40
We don’t like to wait:
“The average New Yorker always walks as if he had a good dinner before him, and a bailiff behind him.” – Frederick Marryat
“Waiting is our destiny. As creatures who cannot by themselves bring about what they hope for, we wait in the darkness for a flame we cannot light. We wait in fear for a happy ending that we cannot write. We wait for a ‘not yet’ that feels like a ‘not ever.” – Lewis Smedes
When nothing seems to be happening:
1. God may delay, but he doesn’t forget.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand…. But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay. (Psalm 40:2, 17)
2. Silence is not indifference, it is preparation.
Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—but my ears you have opened— burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:6-8)
3. God’s deliverance always leads to doxology.
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God…. But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, “The L ord is great!” (Psalm 40:3, 16)
Daily Dwell: April 6-12
“I waited patiently for the L ord ; he turned to me and heard my cry.”
- Psalm 40:1

The Buckhead Community Good Friday worship service will be hosted at Peachtree Church this year. This annual community service pulls together Peachtree Church, Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, Church at Wieuca, Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church, and the Cathedral of Christ the King. Clergy from all churches participate, and members of all the congregations come together to worship God on this sacred day.
3PM | THE SANCTUARY
Our Children’s Music Ministry presents their spring musical that explores the miracles of Jesus through the lens of a fun carnival atmosphere. Join us on the new greenspace afterwards for carnival food and games fit for the whole family.
