SERMON OUTLINE

WHERE WILL MY HELP COME FROM?

The Traveler’s Song / The Good-Bye Psalm

Psalm 121

The question of uncertainty

I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? (v. 1)

The source of your help

My help [immanent] comes from the L ord , the Maker [transcendent] of heaven and earth. (v. 2)

The nature of God’s keeping

The L ord watches over you (v. 5a) [Shamar = to keep, to watch, to guard, to preserve]

• He keeps your steps

He will not let your foot slip … (v. 3)

• He keeps you continually

Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. (v. 4)

• He keeps you close

The L ord watches over you — the L ord is your shade at your right hand; (v. 5-6)

• He keeps your soul

The L ord will keep you from all harm [evil] — he will watch over your life; (v. 7)

• He keeps you forever

The L ord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. (v. 8)

To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. (Jude 24-25)

Daily Dwell: March 30-April 5

“My help comes from the L ord , the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The L ord watches over you…” - Psalm 121:2-5
