— FA MILY SERVICES — 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM
Dear Friends, Welcome to Peachtree Presbyterian Church! Earlier this year, I came with my wife, Terri, to serve as interim pastor connecting the strong and recently completed ministry of Vic Pentz to the promising and just-about-tobegin ministry of Rich Kannwischer (arriving in January 2017). They have been friends of mine for years, and it has been pure joy to celebrate the past and the future. It has been customary for this evening’s offering to be directed to the construction of a Habitat for Humanity house here in the greater Atlanta area. It seems appropriate on this Christmas Eve to provide a home for a family in honor of Jesus’ family which had no home in Bethlehem. At the end of these services today, my responsibilities here will be complete. I can think of no better way to conclude than to borrow the words of Dr. S. M. Lockridge: Jesus is the greatest phenomenon that has ever crossed the horizon of this world. He’s God’s Son. He’s the sinner’s Savior. He’s the centerpiece of civilization. He’s unparalleled. He’s unprecedented. He is the loftiest idea in literature. He’s the highest personality in philosophy. He’s the fundamental doctrine of true theology. He’s the only one qualified to be an all sufficient Savior. To Christ be the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Merry Christmas,
Dave Peterson Peachtree Presbyterian Church Atlanta, GA 2

— THE BIRTH OF JESUS — In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. —Luke 2:1–7
