ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME Prelude
Congregational Introit* Angels from the Realms of Glory #168 (v. 1) Prayer of Adoration*
GIVE PRAISE TO GOD
Hymn of Praise** As with Gladness Men of Old #174 Lighting of the Candles/Placing the Bible Prayer of Confession Gracious and loving God, throughout the days of Advent you invite us to make a journey to Jesus. Like the Magi, we have seen signs of your grace that draw us toward you. Now in the aftermath of Christmas we are gathered here to worship your Son. We confess that our journey toward you has not always led us to thankfulness and gladness. At times we have been resistant to your call. At other times we are indifferent and our lives are unchanged by the truth we know. Forgive our sin, and lead faithfully on our journey to Bethlehem. We bow our hearts before you, and present our lives to you as we continue our confession in silence…
Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Offering Our Gifts Jesus, What a Wonderful Child arr. Rollo Dilworth

Postlude Refrain
Jesus, Jesus, oh, what a wonderful Child. Jesus, Jesus, so holy, meek and mild. New life, new hope to all He brings. Listen to the angels sing: “Glory, glory, glory to the newborn King!” He was herald’d by the angels, yes, born in a lowly manger. God chose the virgin Mary as His mother, and Joseph as His earthly father. Three wisemen trav’lin’ from afar, they were guided by the shinin’ star to see King Jesus where He lay in a manger full of hay. Refrain
Assurance of God’s Forgiveness Congregational Response O Little Town of Bethlehem #171 (v. 4)
Some traveled north, some traveled south to see this wonderful Child. Some traveled east, some traveled west to see this wonderful Child. Refrain

The story of the loaves and fish is the only miracle recorded in all four gospels. There’s no more important message to hear from Jesus’ ministry: God does great things with our simple resources. New years are for beginnings. As we set goals and make plans, there is no better starting point than the first one. The one true beginning is what theologians call ex nihilo— God’s creation, out of nothing. God owns it all because He made it all. Nothing we create could ever be as much ours as this creation is God’s. The implications include every area of life. New sermon series begins January 3.
