Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Prayer of Confession Merciful God, you call us to listen carefully to your words and to act on what we hear. We confess that too often we hear the word without doing what it says. We eagerly read scripture, attend classes, and listen to teachers— but we are not always changed by what we hear. Forgive our failure to shape our daily living around the words you have spoken. A true change of life can only come about by the gift and power of your Spirit. Grant that gift to us now, renewing us in heart and mind, as we continue our confession in silence… Assurance of God’s Forgiveness Congregational Response* Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing  #379 (v. 3)

Thoughts of people in other parts of the world can easily include a sense of helplessness: those trapped in poverty, suffering great injustices, with little hope for a better life. But perhaps this view is just a small snapshot, a narrow perspective on a larger story. When we see not just small images, but the larger picture — as God sees it— we realize that in the midst of enormous challenges, God is transforming lives. Consider the bigger perspective, and how you can be a part of bringing the hope of Jesus Christ to a broken world.
