When I am alone with Jesus, in the quiet, where no one sees us, or when He is with me in life’s noise; If I speak, I know He’ll hear me, and to know that He is near me always brings to me ten thousand joys. I know he came from God to save us from our sins, and that He came to set His people free But how was I to know when Jesus came into my life that God’s own Son had come to bring to me.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING The Session has called a congregational meeting today during the 10:00 am worship service for the purpose of electing the 2016–2017 Elder Nominating Committee and concurring with the request to dissolve the pastoral call of Dr. Victor D. Pentz, Dr. Marnie M. Crumpler, and Dr. Mark H. Crumpler. For a list of names and bios of those on the Elder Nominating Committee, see pages 6–7.

This annual event is designed to bring leading speakers and Christian apologists to Peachtree to challenge, inform and inspire Christians of Atlanta to live for Christ in the complexity of today’s culture. The program will draw from a broad range of accomplished Christians from areas including, but not limited to, theology, religion, journalism, science, government, the arts, entertainment, and the media. The lectures will be funded by gifts to the church in honor of retiring Senior Pastor Dr. Vic Pentz and is both a fitting tribute to Vic and an important dimension of life for Peachtree. PROCLAMATION Whereas God, in His mercy and by the gift of His Holy Spirit, has seen fit to call men and women to serve His people, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers that the whole church might be equipped for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12)… Whereas, in His good providence God knew Victor Donald Pentz, choosing him in Christ before the foundation of the world, blessing him with godly heritage in the faith, shaping his mind with the truth of the Scriptures, and filling his heart with the compassion and wisdom of a shepherd… Whereas for more than forty years God has used those manifestations of the Holy Spirit’s power in Vic’s life to bless the church, setting him apart by ordination to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament in June of nineteen hundred seventy four at Northminster Presbyterian Church, San Diego, California; leading him from that first call to serve at St. Peter’s By-The-Sea Presbyterian Church, Palos Verdes, California; La Verne Heights Presbyterian Church, La Verne, California; First Presbyterian Church, Yakima, Washington; First Presbyterian Church, Houston, Texas, and Peachtree Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, Georgia… Whereas throughout these four decades Vic has been a faithful steward of the Spirit’s gifts in his life: Preaching the word in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4:2), Faithfully bringing the scriptures to life with energy and creativity, Prayerfully listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit, Applying God’s timeless truth to this culture and time, And Inviting people into a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ… Whereas in faithful obedience to Jesus Christ, the chief Shepherd of the church, Vic has led God’s people with a gentle spirit and a bold vision: Equipping the saints for the work of ministry and building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12), Inspiring God’s people to dream God-sized dreams, Leading unprecedented campaigns for ministry and mission, Seeking the welfare of the cities where he has served through such efforts as the Nehemiah Neighborhood Center in Houston and the Atlanta Police Partnership, And Inviting people to love the world in Jesus’ name in China, at Forman Christian College in Lahore, Pakistan; in Syria; in Israel/Palestine; and many other places… And whereas over the past sixteen years Victor Donald Pentz has diligently exercised his calling and visionary leadership and has been used of God to bless the congregation of the Peachtree Presbyterian Church… We, the congregation of Peachtree, do hereby express profound gratitude to God for the ministry of Victor Donald Pentz and thus set aside this as a day of celebration in honor of his ministry, in the name of Jesus Christ. For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. (Romans 11:33)
