At Christmas, we buy and wrap; we eat; we excessively decorate. All of it is perhaps just an effort to manufacture a little joy in our lives. When we look to Santa Claus to be our joy maker, all we get is Santa’s Merry Meltdown. Free photobooth available. Take your family photo with Christmas icons!
Instead of a children’s story, perhaps our favorite reindeer is really a lowly figure raised up. Like the shepherds in the fields at night, everything changes when Rudolph Sees the Light. God turns the world’s hierarchies upside down. Confirmation Sunday
The Scrooge is an icon of humbug. For most of us, at some point during Christmas, we acquire Ebenezer’s Empathy Disorder. Learning to see beyond the stuff, to others, is a key to grasping the true meaning of the season. Special Guest: Tom Key as Ebenezer Scrooge
The truth in some Christmas stories is plain to see. These stories offer important reminders, like the famous green monster whose name has come to represent the moment our heart grows a few sizes. Special Christmas Carol Medley
In the end, Frosty disappears and the children are downcast, until he leaves ???????????: ................... them with a promise, “to be back again someday.” Bet you never thought of Frosty the Snowman and the Second Coming in the same sentence. Special Music: College Soloists

MISSION THE MAKING OF
KIMBERLIE MARSH By: Kimberlie Marsh & Kelly Rook
I
didn’t just wake up one day and decide to move to India and become a missionary. That’s not how it happened.
I began attending Peachtree while a collegiate psychology major, but I didn’t yet know what I wanted to be when I grew up. All I knew was that I wanted to further my education. Where and how were to be determined. One day a chance conversation with fellow Peachtree member Mazi Robinson introduced me to Richmont Graduate University. I applied, was accepted, and began their Master’s degree program in professional counseling in the fall of 2010. Around the same time that Mazi Robinson told me about Richmont, I attended an awareness night for a mission organization Peachtree supported called Redeemed, which later joined with Wellspring Living. There I learned about the issue of human trafficking in the city of Atlanta. The awareness night, like the chance conversation about Richmont, seemed insignificant at the time it happened. Little did I know.
Over time I was discovering that my love of working with the victims at Wellspring, combined with the possibility of using my skills in an international setting, was pushing me toward a bigger role with IJM. After graduating from Richmont in May of 2012, I applied for a 12-month fellowship with IJM. They accepted me as an Aftercare Fellow for the Kolkata, India field office.
Watching how God has opened doors, closed doors, and prepared my future is an amazing experience.
Richmont’s degree program required a field internship. In the spring of 2010, when it came time to choose, I was happily surprised to see Wellspring Living on the list. Even better, I discovered the lead therapist at Wellspring likes to choose her interns from Richmont. So it happened that I began a yearlong relationship with the organization I had learned about in Peachtree’s workshop. 10 PEACHTREE POST | CHRISTMAS Issue • 2012
My desire to work with victims of human trafficking grew. I learned about International Justice Mission (IJM), which works internationally with human trafficking. Peachtree began supporting IJM’s field office in Kolkata, India. The mission team led a trip there in 2011. I signed up, and went again in 2012.
In January of 2013, I move to India. I’ll learn how IJM works, share my knowledge, and most importantly seek justice for the victims of human trafficking.
The big picture of life is a lot clearer in the rear view mirror. While the experiences can seem overwhelming together, viewed separately they have really been just a series of opportunities for me to give up control to the Lord and trust in the great path He has in store for me and that I am privileged to be a part of. Watching how God has opened doors, closed doors, and prepared my future is an amazing experience.

eachtree has partnered with The Salvation Army School for the Blind in Kingston, Jamaica, since 2007 to provide training and hope for those on the margins of society. The SAS teaches students to be self-sufficient and gives them skills to become contributing members of society as adults. A self-taught pianist, student Sanjay Reid shared his incredible talent in Peachtree worship in 2011. Moved, the Peachtree Music Ministry envisioned a new piano at the school, which would encourage other students like Sanjay to pursue music. Local artists donated time and talent to a benefit piano concert, and the funds raised, along with the generous support of two Peachtree families, delivered a new piano to Jamaica.

WAITING
IS THE HARDEST PART By: Mark Crumpler
T
he season of Advent invites us to embrace what we typically try to avoid, to accept what we regard as unacceptable. Advent is an invitation to wait, and most of us would rather do anything than wait. To keep someone else waiting is bad manners. Being kept waiting is unforgiveable. There is an art to waiting. It isn’t passive and weak. The waiting of Advent is more like vigilance. If we resist or refuse this waiting, we will not understand Advent and we will not truly celebrate Christmas. The waiting of Advent is two-fold. Advent places us in Israel’s story, anticipating and yearning for the arrival of the Messiah, the King who will come and establish God’s rule. But Advent tells us that we are waiting still. Jesus will come again to finish what he started.
YOUNG ADULT CHRISTMAS GATHERING Thursday, Dec. 6th at 7:00pm At the home of Vic and Becky Pentz: 1154 Dawn View Lane NW, 30327
The Christmas party where everyone gets carded. Bring a gift card for local foster children and write the donation amount the card.
We’re all waiting for something. We wait for love, wait for a break, wait for the promotion, wait for the test results. Waiting can be an exquisite pain. We love having something to look forward to, something to anticipate. But sometimes the waiting erodes our faith: “How long, O Lord?” If you’re waiting on the man or woman who will make you happy, the job that will finally give you security, the break that will establish your name, then the waiting can crush you. But to wait on the Lord is a different kind of thing. As Isaiah said, those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31).

Student Ministry Parties
Fifty6 Christmas Party
Middle School Christmas Party
We will be participating in Advent Conspiracy (www. adventconspiracy.org), which is an international movement to restore Christmas by worshiping Jesus through compassion, not by celebrating Christmas with unnecessary shopping. Then on Friday, December 21th, fifth and sixth graders will overtake the Lodge for the annual Fifty6 Christmas party! With a photo booth, sleigh races, and crazy relays, students will remember this event for the rest of the year!
Not So Silent Night, December 14th 6:30-9:30 We will meet at the Lodge at 6:30 for dinner catered by the Varsity! After dinner we have our Silly Santa Gift swap, each student will bring a funny gift (under or around $5). After present swapping we will get cozy in the café and watch a classic Christmas movie! Cost is $15.
High School Christmas Party
College Christmas Party
Cheers, Saturday, December 8th
Dinner at Easterlin’s House Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 7pm
It’s time to celebrate Christmas in Atlanta once again. This is a nine year tradition, so join us for an evening of Christmas cheer throughout our great city as we head to the Varsity for dinner, then to Centennial Park for some ice skating. Afterwards we will return to the Lodge to cook s’mores. It’s the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit with your friends!
Dinner at Mallie Easterlin’s House (waiting for final word from Easterlin’s, should be calling back soon, said they’d let me know by this afternoon, called them once, waiting to confirm) Address: 2659 Old Wesley Place, NW Atlanta, GA 30327

One of these was Deitrich Bonhoeffer – a pastor and author, known much for such spiritual classics as The Cost of Discipleship and Life Together, as for his 1945 execution in a concentration camp for his part in the plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
