ABOUT

Nicknamed “The Gateway to the Americas,” Miami is in the southeastern region of Florida and a leader in finance, culture, entertainment, the arts and international trade. This oceanfront city is one of the smallest major cities in the U.S. in terms of land area but is considered a major tourism hub for international visitors, ranking number two in the country after New York City.

MIAMI, USA Weather Miami experiences their annual rainy season from May to October; therefore, bring an umbrella and expect afternoon showers at the very least. During the warmer months, like June, the average temperature ranges from mid 80s to low 90s (29–35 °C), so bring extra sunscreen and stay hydrated.

The name Miami comes from the Calusa word “Mayami,” meaning “Big Water.” The early Native American settlers occupied the area for a thousand years in the mouth of the Miami River. Spain and

Attire in Miami Miami residents typically wear casual and modern style clothes such as jeans, casual dresses, t-shirts and sneakers. However, a proportion of the population prefers to dress in business causal or professional clothing, especially on special occasions. Miami residents tend to dress up when heading out to nicer restaurants, upscale bars and nightclubs.

For more than 100 years, Miami has attracted individuals from a variety of cultures to live, work, play and create. Visitors to Miami will find this mosaic of cultures represented through the art, music, food, unique sights and communities. From historically Black neighborhoods to communities shaped by immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, the Bahamas and other parts of the Caribbean and Latin America, Miami is rich in diversity and offerings to those who visit.

Be sure to look out for local favorites such as the medianoche (Cuban sandwich), cortado (Spanish espresso) and croquetas (small fried meat and potato roll). These and many other treats can be found throughout the city at window cafes, outside of supermarkets and the expansive variety of restaurants. Since Miami is located alongside the Atlantic Ocean, it is also well known for its seafood, and many seafood restaurants can be found along the Miami River and around Biscayne Bay.
