Andy's Bar and Grill

Countdown for a New Watering Hole

Just three years after hospitality veteran Andy Correa opened Andy's Kitchen in Fairfield, he is at it again! His new endeavor, Andy's Bar and Grill, is just down the road a piece, as the Rolling Stones were fond of saying, east of us on Highway 290, between Mason Road and Mueschke Road, in the site of the former New York Chicago Pizza House. For those unfamiliar with Andy's Kitchen, it is a cozy eatery on Mason Road next to Pizza Hut in the Fairfield Subdivision, known as much for its juicy, mouth-watering burgers as its namesake Andy. It's a place he likes to call a "small kitchen with a big heart," which is what it is. Andy's concern for others and the community makes him adored by everyone who has crossed his path. He's always on the lookout for a way to serve and get involved with the community. Friendly, giving, and never without a smile, Andy is always one of the first ones tapped for food drives, school functions, cookoffs, and charity events. Friend and colleague Pat Hudson explained, "Andy Correa has made a name for himself by providing a family-friendly atmosphere with a great down-home menu at Andy's Kitchen. His hamburgers are the talk of social media; when someone asks where to go for the best burgers, it is a 'no brainer' that Andy's Kitchen will be at the top of the list! "But more than that, Andy is a larger-than-life figure, with a heart to match! He has been caught reaching into his own pocket to feed first responders and Fairfield campus teachers. He is an invaluable supporter of Cy-Fair Helping Hands, a ministry that serves those in need in our community! When a need arises, Andy is the first to ask, 'What can I do to help?'''

Although Andy has a head for business and a knack for marketing, his listening skills are even better. As he tells the story, "Time and time again, my customers would say, 'We love this warm and happy environment, but you need a bigger place.' After hearing it so many times, I decided to start looking around. When the New York Chicago Pizza House property became available, I latched on it." Andy plans to pattern Andy's Bar and Grill after Rosters, his one-time hamburger joint located on the old driving range, which is now Memorial Hermann Hospital's parking lot. Formerly owned and operated by Andy and his colleagues, Rosters gained a reputation locally as a place friends and family could come and eat, relax, kick back, and have a good time. Adults dropped in to hang out in the evening, listen to music, and enjoy friends and fellowship. Long-time customer Billy Cable added, "When we found out Andy planned to open the Bar and Grill, we were excited because we knew he was going to take his same attitude and drive and turn it into a unique venue that Fairfield doesn't have. You have other nightspots around, but they have a "bar" feeling. Andy's Bar and Grill will be different; it will be relaxed and friendly. I think it is going to be a beautiful thing for Cypress, and he is going to do well." Like none other in the area, Andy's Bar and Grill will offer Andy's unique brand of hospitality and a totally new menu concept— a fusion of authentic Italian, Cajun, and Ameri-can-style cuisine. During the day, customers will dine in a kid-friendly environment. In the evenings, it will morph into a Cypress watering hole and a business model based on people eating and staying to relax and unwind. Monday through Thursday, customers might be surprised by karaoke or trivia night, and on weekends, they will enjoy live entertainment. Although Andy has figured out how to live a happy, successful, and productive life, he may not know that he is offering all of those things back to the Fairfield community. A study published in the journal Adaptive Human Behavior and Psychology supports this contention. The study concluded that people who frequented a local watering hole had more extensive social networks, were more engaged with their community, claimed to be happier, had more friends, and were more satisfied with their lives. Considering that a rich social life can lower one's blood pressure, reduce stress, and even help people to live longer, that right there might be a great excuse to drop in at Andy's Bar and Grill when the opportunity exists. Andy's Bar and Grill, located at 27200 Hwy 290, suite 160, Cypress, TX 77433, will be open seven days a week, Sunday through Wednesday from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, and Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 2:00 am. You can follow Andy on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ andyskitchentx or reach him by phone at 832 244 1087. Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.

An expanded outreach program will return as soon as health guidelines allow, hopefully in time for the 2022-2023 season. HRB dancers are committed to sharing the arts with the community. Past community engagement events included costumed appearances at various nursing homes, group events, and at Arts & Education performances. HRB brings three matinee performances to Tomball ISD third grade students, fulfilling the arts component of their curriculum. Thoughts from Your Editor I can hardly believe that I am writing my final editor's message for 2021. This year has been quite a journey. The COVID-19 pandemic has cast a long shadow over every aspect of our lives - and we are still not free from its far-reaching ramifications. However, we are making headway. Nonetheless, it still seems that the last 12 months have flown faster than all of the rest. This year, we are looking forward to a more festive season than in the past because our Fairfield Women's Club has decided to organize a Christmas parade and Holiday Market to add pazazz to the season. Our local school bands, orchestras, and choral groups are gearing up to feature holiday concerts. The Traveling Seniors of Cypress will host their Annual Cookie and Gift Exchange. Neighborhood churches are preparing to share the season's joy. Second Baptist Church will have a live Nativity scene on December 9th and 10th from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. This month, the Gazette is chock-full of informative and entertaining articles. Make sure to read about Andy Correa's big announcement and other inspiring Christmas stories, as well as news about our local schools and their students' accomplishments. Fairfield is a family-friendly community—we are lucky to have such a special place to call home. We, at the Gazette, are delighted to highlight the kindness and generosity that abounds in and around our neighborhoods. As you enjoy time with your family, friends, and neighbors this holiday season, please be on the lookout for positive, uplifting stories. Send your thoughts, ideas, and comments to jackiedevine@peelinc.com. Here is wishing you a peaceful, safe, and memorable holiday. See you next year.

A Little Lady with a Giant Christmas Spirit by Jackie Devine Dulce Cain, a native Venezuelan, met and fell in love with her husband, Jim Cain, when he was on assignment in Venezuela. He asked her to marry him and move to the United States. Forty-three years ago, she said yes, and they have been happily married ever since. Dulce combines her Venezuelan heritage with her adopted American life to create a melded traditional holiday season. They have a blended family of seven children. Together they have 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild Many folks in Cypress hire a team of elves to help them decorate for the holidays. But not Dulce Cain. If you want to talk about

the holiday spirit, Dulce has it! When Dulce invited me to her home to see her Christmas collections, I could tell that she felt Christmas was one of the most memorable times of the year and that she was determined to make sure her home would be filled with magic and tradition. She led me into her formal dining room, which now served as a salute to Christmas. I found a beautifully illustrated snow village laid out with 49 illuminated houses, stores, and churches on my right. Everywhere I looked was a different scene. Trains were zooming through the countryside; carolers were caroling, trolleys were delivering shoppers, and children were sledding down the mountainside.

Copyright © 2021 Peel, Inc.

To my left, I discovered an elaborate Venezuelan village with over 100 tiny houses made of wood or ceramics, brightly hand-painted and creatively lit. I could feel the excitement of the miniature villagers as they ushered in the yuletide season. Festive miniature trees filled every available nook and cranny. Little people appeared to be dancing, singing, and having a grand old time. Just like an actual city, cars swept through the village, people shopped, and carolers spread joy. Dulce then escorted me toward her living room, where an illuminated tree in silver and gold hues delighted my eye and gave me a nostalgic sense of a classic tree collected-over-time look. As we moved down the hall, I found numerous collections of one-of-a-kind nativity scenes and displays of the angelic realm. As we moved into the kitchen and great room, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a host of Santas, more trees, scores of poinsettias, and what felt like hundreds of candles all lit and welcoming me into the room. There is no doubt; I was truly blessed to be the recipient of a one-of-a-kind local Cypress Christmas tour. But, equally important, I've since learned that having a home all decked out for the holiday season can not only put a spring in a person's step but also elevates one's frame of mind. Thankfully, I was one of the beneficiaries. I'm convinced that having the holiday spirit brightens our mood, lifts our attitude and promotes mental health well into the new year. Dulce genuinely has discovered the recipe. I know because I was the beneficiary of her love and dedication to the spirit of Christmas.

Spotlight on Entrepreneurs, Young and Old Alike By Jackie Devine I come from a family of entrepreneurs. Over the years, I’ve owned and operated two companies and spent twenty-five years in the private sector, providing sales and marketing, public relations, business, and economic development support to individuals, communities, and companies—entrepreneurial start-ups to Fortune 500 firms. During that time, I’ve helped scores of fledgling companies get their start. Like me, Peel, Inc. is dedicated to supporting the development and growth of local entrepreneurs, cottage industries, public and private companies, as well as major corporations (including medical facilities), schools, and churches. That is why we have created an Entrepreneurial Column, which will offer a marketing platform for business start-ups. Monthly, we will feature a local entrepreneur, and, if we are lucky, we also will highlight a student or youngster who has been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug. This month, we introduce Meredith Ferguson is the owner and baker for the up-and-coming home-based bakery, Merry Treats. And siblings, Christian Day (13) and Brianna Day

Make Every Occasion a Merry One!

Entrekidneur Adventures

Meredith Ferguson is the owner and baker for the up-and-coming home-based bakery, Merry Treats. She started Merry Treats at the beginning of the pandemic to bring homestyle desserts and baked goods to your table, the same way her grandmother used to do for her. Meredith says, "Ever since I was little, I was always excited about baking and being in the kitchen, so much so that I attended the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, CA and received my Associate's Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. Shortly after, I started a family and was happy to work on my baking at home while also raising my children. My children are now my biggest inspiration. Now that they are a little older and more independent, I decided it was time to build my passion into something more." Since Meredith started her business, She's enjoyed working on treats such as wedding cakes, sugar cookies, custom birthday cakes, cupcakes, and many specialty items (such as her customer-favorite Carrot Cake Sandwich Cookies). She has also enjoyed providing dessert tables for events and special occasions. From cinnamon rolls to cakesicles and anything in between. Meredith will be happy to help with any style or type of sweet you desire (with some gluten-free and vegan options). She also offers both pickup and delivery options (with free delivery inside Fairfield Village). You can contact her on Facebook (Merry Treats), Instagram (@merrytreats13), and through her website (http:// merrytreat.square.site/).

8 Fairfield Community Gazette - December 2021

In the heart of Cypress live two young and eager siblings, Christian Day (13) and Brianna Day (11). When they're not doing schoolwork, they spend their days involved in various activities, along with church, sports, and participating in their local homeschool community. They are members of Cypress Homeschool Council, and thanks to Entrekidneur Adventures, a kid’s entrepreneurial course created and led by Fairfield resident, Melanie Vitovsky, they have both begun their own start-up businesses. Christian makes various wooden decor for his new business, Wood N’ Stuff. He has started with items for this coming fall and winter seasons and hopes to expand with seasonal decor for all holidays. Christian enjoys video games, cars, building things, and playing basketball whenever he has spare time. He is also a member of the Houston Northwest Shooter's Club as a part of their Air Pistol team. On top of that, he is involved in Trail Life at a community church and is a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. Brianna, who has created a sewing business called Creations by Grace, provides pillows for every room of your home. Use them as a showpiece or a soft place for your head and let them add variety to your usual decor for everyone to enjoy. Brianna enjoys horseback riding, sewing, creating, and reading. She is a member of American Heritage Girls, which meet weekly and participate in activities that promote self-growth and other qualities to our future women of America. She is also a member of Houston Northwest Shooter's Club as part of part of the archery team, working on yet another bull’s-eye with her ever-growing abilities. Both Christian and Brianna plan to expand their product lines soon. Little sister will be teaming up with big brother on some planned products to sew accessories and other add-ons for Wood N' Stuff. With an eye for anything catchy, Christian will be working with Brianna on designs and fabrics for future decor coming from Creations by Grace. Both of the kids are perfect examples of a "can-do" attitude. They don't let daily tasks and discomforts interfere with their desire to create and be successful. While the future may be unknown, it belongs to those who continuously better themselves and plan for it.

The Bridgeland, Cypress Creek, Cy-Fair, Cypress Ranch and Cypress Woods high school volleyball teams advanced past the bi-district round of the UIL Class 6A playoffs and move on to the area round, while Langham Creek High School concluded its season. Bridgeland swept Tomball in three sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-13.

Thank you Fairfield H-E-B for the generous donation of water, soda, and popcorn for our 17th annual Sock Hop! #ThisIsKeith @HEB @HEBPatty @CyFairISD

Bridgeland High School presents an infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth-century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun! This special School Edition has been masterfully adapted, working directly with Mr. Sondheim to retain the dark wit and grand scope of the original work, with a few lyric and key changes to facilitate high school productions. SHOW DATES Thursday, January 20th 7pm Friday, January 21st 7pm Saturday, January 22nd 2pm & 7pm Monday, January 24th 7pm Bridgeland High School 10707 Mason Rd | Cypress, TX 77433 |

Growing a love of science By Stephanie Baker, owner and operator of Ready to Grow Gardens It's Garden Day! Those three words ignite excitement in students at Swenke and Keith Elementary every year. It means that they will spend their science class out in the vegetable and pollinator/butterfly gardens at their schools. During August, September, and parts of October, students plant seeds and eagerly anticipate the first sprouts of the season. There is something magical about seeing the sprout that comes from the tiny seed that they planted. Students plant leafy greens, root vegetables, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and herbs, to name just a few. During the Fall, they will watch their vegetables grow and will be able to taste some of them along the way. The pollinator gardens are another spectacular place that students will spend time while outside during Garden Day. They may use hand lenses to get an up-close look at some of the many flowers grown there. Lantana, roses, salvias, bluebonnets, sunflowers, penta, porter weed, zinnias, cosmos and milkweed are some of the flowers that are planted to attract animals to our gardens. Butterflies, bees, and other insects are usually present and put on a show. During October, the students tagged monarch butterflies as part of a science experiment sponsored by Monarch Watch. The students will track the path that their tagged butterflies take on their way to Mexico during this year's migration. Having the opportunity to be a part of Garden Day gives students a unique experience that they will hopefully carry throughout their lives. Ready to Grow Gardens is thankful to be able to continue our relationship with our partner schools in the Fairfield community.

Mr. Ramer is creating winners on many levels Teri Hudson

As the Chess Club sponsor at Salyards Middle School, I'd like to showcase Mr. Ray Ramer for working with our students and encouraging them through Chess. Chess Club meets weekly on Thursday after school. Mr. Ramer uses chess to teach life lessons of how to work together, how to treat others and be confident in yourself. He always reminds them they are "priceless individuals." It is an honor to see Mr. Ramer each week and learn from him.

Salyards Fundraiser A HUGE thanks to Spring Creek Barbeque and all the family and friends who supported us at Spring Creek Spirit Nights and to everyone who bought barbecue sauce!

We raised a whopping $5,260...!! Way to go, Snow Leopards!

Salyards wins 7th grade cross country team title Three middle schools won team championships at the CFISD Middle School Cross Country Meet, held Oct. 16 at Cypress Woods High School. Anthony Middle School swept the girls’ team titles, while Smith Middle School won the eighth grade boys’ championship and Salyards Middle School won the seventh grade boys’ cross country team title with 32 points on Oct. 20 at Cypress Woods High School.

Swenke’s Pizza Box Decorators Swenke PTO kids decorated pizza boxes at school as a fundraiser. The community was then able to order their pizza from Marcos and the pizza were delivered in the boxes students designed.
