Since its highly anticipated opening in July 2001, Glasgow Hills has become a premier destination for golfers visiting Prince Edward Island. Glasgow Hills is one of the Island’s exceptional golf experiences, located only 20 minutes from Charlottetown and Summerside in the beautiful village of New Glasgow, near Cavendish PEI.
By Alana Lauren Photos Brady McCloskeyThegolf course runs over diverse terrain that challenges players of every skill level. Dramatic views of River Clyde and Gulf of St. Lawrence offer a spectacular setting in which to play. The undulation will challenge you, and the beauty of the surroundings will inspire you.
“This course is amazing! From the ambiance created at the entrance, to the accessible parking, (the) cart dropoff from the friendly and courteous staff, the immaculate club house, near 360-degree view, the well-stocked pro-shop and then the magnificent Glasgow Hills. The course is well laid out and the challenge really begins on the back 9. Spectacular views on most holes…” Google Reviews, 2023.
Notable accolades for Glasgow Hills Golf Course include a four-star rating from Golf Digest and a listing in the top 70 golf courses in Canada from the readers of The Globe and Mail.
Though Glasgow Hills has traditionally been known for their golfing experience, it is now emerging as more than just a golf course. Glasgow Hills has blossomed into a four-season venue for recreation, meetings, conferences, weddings, and food and beverage. Piper’s Restaurant & Patio, Glasgow Hills restaurant, indulges their guests in a variety of flavours, from a casual lunch to fine
steaks and fresh-caught seafood. The executive chef and, food and beverage manager, Aaron Smith, finds inspiration in the bounty of flavourful ingredients from local farmers and fishermen which highlights why PEI is known as Canada’s Food Island.
Chef Aaron Smith came to Glasgow Hills in 2020 from Vancouver BC. An alumnus of the Culinary Institute of Canada and Vancouver Island Universities Hospitality Management program, Chef Aaron Smith has led Piper’s Restaurant and Patio to be a stand-alone business that caters to all that join him on the Hill. Chef Aaron really focuses
on the experience when you dine at Piper’s Restaurant through the outstanding local inspired food, the tantalizing beverages, and the exceptional customer service which are all enhanced by the breathtaking view you get whilst dining at Piper’s. All these attributes make for a truly unique dining experience.
Glasgow Hills is entering yet another phase of their business by becoming one of the most sought-after locations for meetings, conferences, and weddings on the Island. To keep up with this demand, Glasgow Hills has undergone a major renovation to an area of their clubhouse which remained unused since they opened back in 2001. The new area, referred to as the Top of the Hill, is a modern and freshly renovated area designed for meetings, conferences, and weddings.
The Top of the Hill is located directly over Piper’s Main Restaurant and is furnished with its own bar, bathrooms, A/V systems, projectors, and screens. The Top of the Hill renovations allow Glasgow Hills to offer two more venue areas on top of the existing areas to host gatherings from one to 200 people. With the new addition to their clubhouse Glasgow Hills is now a four-season venue for weddings, meetings, and conferences.
Glasgow Hills has always prided themselves as an Island community-focused business, this is ever present with their development of the onsite residential growth. Glasgow Hills started out with 33 Lots available for development, 12 of which remain. With 33 lots having been or soon to be developed, the onsite community at Glasgow Hills is rapidly growing into a soughtafter location for living. On top of the residential lots, Glasgow Hills also has some very exciting development plans in the near future as they continue to grow their resort into one of the top four season resorts in eastern Canada.
With no golf in the winter, how is Glasgow hills a four-season recreational destination? With a partnership through the Central Region Sports & Recreation Council, Glasgow Hills now has what is going to be the largest trail system in Eastern Canada. Ten kilometers of public access trails have been built since 2022 throughout their property and with phase three being planned another five kms of trails will be added in the next year. These trails are utilized in the summer as biking, walking, and hiking trails, but double as snowshoeing and Fat Biking in the winter months.
Groomed daily, these trails offer PEI residents and tourist the opportunity to experience the picturesque landscape of Glasgow Hills during the winter which was
missed in years past, “Fresh air, a family favourite…we’ve been loving the @cavendishbeach trails by @glasgow_ hills - we walked a new portion this past weekend when the trees looked like icicles and it was magical” loulabelleskincare, Instagram, 2023.
What was originally a simple farm, Glasgow Hills Golf Course has transformed itself into an island gem in the areas of sport and recreation, Food & Beverage, gathering venues, and a four-season facility. All of this in just 23 years, but with the business projections and planned growth we cannot wait to see where Glasgow Hills takes us in the next 23 years.

MILL RIVER RESORT & EAGLES GLENN
By Shannon MacDougallNestled among the trees, and overlooking the rolling farmland just across the Mill River is PEI’s only four-star, four-season resort and residential community, Mill River Resort, which has always been a draw for avid golfers. The 18-hole course is among the best tracks on the Island, but the resort itself is now a destination that draws guests from near and far.
The reason? Inspiration, vision, and drive.
When Don McDougall looked at the old resort and golf course, he saw past dated décor and facilities to what the resort property could be –a place where families and golfers could experience the good life.
And today, the good life is all around at Mill River Resort. The sprawling property has seen extensive renovation, upgrades, and expansion. Eighty-one fresh and serene guest rooms and a variety of private rental residences welcome visitors year-round with a host of amenities and services that make each stay a memorable one for the young and the young at heart.
As for what’s next, a tranquil residential community is growing here with opportunities to build or buy into the vision. In 2023, Mill River Resort acquired Eagles Glenn in Cavendish, further expanding golf offerings for visitors and members. Those who know Don understand his drive and zest for what’s next, including Mill River’s Ambassador of Golf and four-times LPGA winner, Lorie Kane, “My dad saw my career on a five-year plan, and in the very beginning he said, you are going to have to work hard and there will be sacrifices. Don has come into my life as somebody who gets that. We golfers never sit still.”
Kane is exploring life beyond the golf courses these days and looks forward to being back at Mill River this spring, “I encourage us as Islanders to venture out of our own neighborhoods and fall in love with
our own island, from east to west. But the west end of the Island? It has so much to offer.”

GOLF AND COMMUNITY INTERTWINED AT FOX MEADOW
By Sam MacPhail Photos Courtesy of Fox MeadowTucked away in the heart of Stratford, Prince Edward Island, Fox Meadow Golf Course is more than just a top-notch golfing destination; it’s a vibrant community hub where every swing is accompanied by camaraderie and charm.
Located just a short distance from Downtown Charlottetown, it extends a warm welcome to all, boasting impeccably maintained fairways that offer a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
The golf course was originally designed to be a stern but fair test of golf. Over the past five years, the course has been reworked by architect Jeff Mingay and golf course Superintendent Paul MacCormack with an emphasis on creating a more varied and interesting layout. The introduction of multiple playing angles, increased width in the fairways and varied teeing grounds, Fox Meadow has reemerged as a golf course that firmly places the emphasis on fun and enjoyment.
Since its establishment in 2000, Fox Meadow has become a community focal point. With its partner restaurant, Lone Oak Brewing Co., the clubhouse is a place where friendships are forged over delicious food and lively conversations. The course’s stunning vistas provide a backdrop for special events that create cherished memories filled with laughter and camaraderie.
But Fox Meadow isn’t just about socializing; it’s also committed to environmental stewardship. By implementing sustainable turf practices, the course contributes to preserving Prince Edward Island’s natural beauty for future generations. Additionally, the management’s emphasis on fostering a low-stress atmosphere ensures that both staff and guests feel welcome and relaxed.
In summary, Fox Meadow isn’t simply a golf course; it’s a dynamic and inclusive cornerstone of the Stratford community. It embodies the essence of what makes Prince Edward Island special—community spirit, warmth, and a sprinkle of Island magic. Whether you visit for the golf or the company, you’re guaranteed to leave with memories that will last a lifetime.

Brudenell River Golf Course
A TRIO OF PREMIER GOLF COURSES
By Sam MacPhail Photos Evan SchillerPrince Edward Island boasts a trio of premier golf courses united under the banner of PEI’s Finest Golf: The Links at Crowbush Cove, Brudenell River, and Dundarave Golf Courses.
Ifyou’ve golfed on the Island before, you know these courses well. And if you haven’t, you should.
The Links at Crowbush Cove stands as PEI’s pinnacle course, emerging onto the scene in 1994 to immediate acclaim, earning the distinction of Canada’s Best New Course by Golf Digest. A formidable challenge at 6925 yards, this Tom McBroom masterpiece offers golfers an unforgettable experience.
Notable for its breathtaking vistas of the north shore’s coastline, Crowbush features standout holes like the awe-inspiring par five 11th hole, with its captivating “stairway to heaven” leading to panoramic views of the course and Rodd Crowbush Resort. Equally striking is the par four 16th hole, bordering Lakeside Beach and posing a formidable challenge, especially in windy conditions. Despite its difficulty, a round at Crowbush is an essential addition to any golf itinerary.
Brudenell River Golf Course, the inaugural member of this illustrious trio, offers a more relaxed and leisurely atmosphere. Since its inception in 1969, Brudenell has played a vital role in establishing
PEI as a premier golf destination. Spanning 6541 yards along the scenic Brudenell River, the course is a balanced layout of par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s. Memorable holes include the picturesque par three 10th hole nestled beside the river and the panoramic par five 17th, offering views of the adjacent Dundarave Golf Course and Rodd Brudenell River Resort. With its natural beauty and thoughtful design, Brudenell entices golfers to return time and time again.
Completing the trio is Dundarave Golf Course, introduced in 1999 to widespread acclaim. Stretching just under 7100 yards, Dundarave presents a challenging layout requiring precision and creativity
to navigate its signature red sand bunkers. Offering stunning vistas from the 8th tee box, Dundarave provides players with the choice of a risky driveable green overlooking the river or a safer play down the fairway. Popular among both amateurs and professionals, Dundarave hosted consecutive PGA Tour Canada events in 2021 and 2022 and secured a spot in ScoreGolf’s Top 59 Public Courses in Canada. Whether local or visiting, Dundarave promises an exceptional golf experience either on its own or as part of a 36-hole adventure paired with Brudenell next door. Trust the accolades and make Dundarave a priority on your golfing agenda.
COUNTRYVIEW CELEBRATING 25 YEARS
Not far from Charlottetown and nestled alongside Prince Edward Island’s scenic south shore is a local favourite: Countryview Golf Club in Fairview.
By Sam MacPhail Brady McCloskeyCelebrating 25 years in business, Countryview comes from humble beginnings.
What began in 1999 as a 9-hole track on repurposed farmland by owner-operators Carl and Karen Currie evolved into an 18-hole layout in 2011, managed today by their son Kris. With a rich history in golf course management dating back three generations, the Currie family’s dedication to ensuring a top-notch golf experience is unwavering. Their commitment to the craft is the driving force behind the golf course’s success.
Prided by impeccable conditions and easy-going playability, this hidden gem is a must-play…thenplay-again type of golf course. Countryview boasts a 6-6-6, par 72 layout that plays close to 6300 yards from the tips. With waterfront views of the West River and golden fescue surrounding the course, it’s no surprise this beauty has become so popular.
A not-so-well-kept secret behind Countryview’s growth has been the emphasis on its vibrant membership community. Half of its members are under thirty, and the club features a slew of events to keep all ages engaged. The Curries encourage a more casual, quickplaying atmosphere so that you’ll remember your good shots instead of waiting too long on the tee box. 25 years in, it’s clear that Countryview is only getting started. Strategic improvements in the course, from the layout to the
conditions, and in its people, from the staff to the members, pave the way for future success. This forward-thinking approach is what has worked for so long and will continue to cement Countryview as a staple in the Island golf scene for years to come.
• 1999 - Countryview opens as a 9-hole golf course
• 2007 - Began construction of an additional 9-holes
• 2011 - Opened as an 18-hole golf club in July
• 2013 - New clubhouse built to cater to demand
• 2024 - Celebrating 25 years in business

NATIONALLY RANKED NINE-HOLE HEAVEN AT RED SANDS
By Sam MacPhail Brady McCloskeyMost out-of-towners have never heard of Clinton, Prince Edward Island.
Hunched between Cavendish and Summerside, it certainly fits the definition of ‘off-the-beaten-path.’ So why would anyone visit this tiny town?
Enter Red Sands Golf Course.
PhotosOpening its gates at the turn of the millennium, Red Sands is not your typical nine-hole golf course. At just 2400 yards, this par 32 might seem short at first glance. But don’t be fooled. This course will challenge you to use every club in the bag. It is the perfect blend of accessible yet difficult, with a few holes requiring a sharp approach or booming drive. What sets it apart is its unique ability to keep you on your toes, never knowing what challenge the next hole will bring.
There’s a reason people put this small but mighty golf course on their list when visiting the Island. Some say it is the easy-going vibe for golfers of all ages. Others say it is the tour-like conditions while surrounded by the rolling hills of Clinton.
Regardless, Red Sands has earned its reputation, gaining national recognition. In 2014, Canadian Golf Magazine selected it as one of Canada’s Must-Play 9-hole Golf Courses. The following year, Canada Business Magazine ranked it as one of the Top nine-hole golf courses in the country.
Golf writers and influencers from near and far understand how special this place is. TSN’s Bob Weeks has visited and raved about it, and Instagram influencer Mac Boucher made a pit-stop here just last summer.
Golf aside, Red Sands understands the role it plays in the greater Island community.
Community-minded isn’t just a catchphrase for Red Sands but an everyday habit. Hosting many fundraising golf events, they are home to the Annual Prince County Hospital Ladies’ Golf Classic, which has raised nearly $500,000 through this tournament alone. Partnering with the PEI Golf Association, they also offer junior and ladies’ golf lessons all summer long for those looking to get into the game.
There is no question Red Sands Golf Course offers an experience to remember. Whether looking for a place to start playing, a seasoned player wanting to hone your game, or simply seeking a nine-hole loop, Red Sands reigns supreme.
It embodies everything golf should be: quick, casual, and immersed in the natural beauty of Prince Edward Island.
GOLF CLUB
This Jeff Fuller golf course is located just 20 minutes from Charlottetown and has one of the best designs in the Maritime’s.
The course layout with four sets of tees will be a very fair test for everyone from the beginner golfer to the seasoned veteran. The bent grass greens, large bent grass tees and dwarf blue grass fairways with strategically placed white sand bunkers should make for an exceptional day at Avondale Golf Course.
“A fun, challenging Links-style course 15 minutes from our hotel in Montague, PE. It’s a relatively short course, but is nicely balanced with some fairways being forgiving and others featuring sand at driving distances... it requires some thought, which is fun.” - Rob G.
Ranked with the best member clubs in Eastern Canada this traditional “country club” layout winds through hardwood lined fairways and plays to a four hour round walking or riding. A mustplay on your PEI Tour, this par 72, 18-hole course is groomed daily to tournament-like conditions and has been recently renovated by architect Graham Cooke.
One of Canada’s oldest golf courses, 150 acres within the city limits of Charlottetown is still situated on the original site, and based on that location, its current condition, reputation, activity and popularity, this century old club is currently enjoying its finest hour.
Belvedere today stands as the patriarch in the midst of a host of championship golf courses that have earned PEI the reputation of being the leading golf destination.
The 3209-yard Belfast Highland Greens Golf Course is one of the finest nine-hole golf courses in Atlantic Canada and one of the most scenic golf courses on the Island. Located at historic Lord Selkirk Park where settlers first landed on PEI, you’ll find yourself taken away by the views provided by Orwell Bay and Northumberland Strait.
The Belfast Highland Greens golf course, which opened in 1996, has been an excellent addition to the park. As well as their new addition of two indoor golf simulators which are open year-round.
Lord Selkirk Park is infused with the Scottish atmosphere that prevails throughout the community. The park hosts many events with a Celtic flavour and the view from the cliffs is captivating.
CLYDE RIVER GOLF CLUB
Clyde River Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf club located in the community of Clyde River.
The course is conveniently located on a former historic gateway road to the south shore region, a mere 20 minutes east of the Confederation Bridge and just 10 minutes west of Charlottetown. The golf course is crafted methodically to take advantage of the natural terrain, with outstanding water views that will leave you speechless.
A traditional parkland design, the signature hole is the Island’s only island green, hole number eight. High-season green fees of $55, taxes included, mean your wallet won’t feel the pinch either.

In the heart of the “beaches” tourism area, this mature, wellmaintained 18-hole, PEI golf course has been in play since 1970. Designed by Robbie Robinson, it has a definite “links” feel that offers all golfers a true test of skill while still providing genuine enjoyment.
“A course that you will probably use every club in your bag, at some point. Easy walk, challenging, driving range, scenic and friendly staff.” - Lowell Kurylyk
