Ideal for children aged 3 and above, LEARNIN G NUMBERS is designed for parents and teachers to help early learners to build essential skills in maths and writing. This series is suitable for children who have just started or will soon be going to school. In this book, children practice what they’ve already learned about the numbers 0 -10 and build new skills in counting 11 -20. Not only will pre-schoolers practice recognising these numerals, but they will also be given rote count to 20 exercises to reinforce skills. Approaching numbers in a scaffolded way such as this helps build math fluency and boosts confidence. In order to ensure that our books are suitable to be used alongside the curriculum, this series is carefully written to fulfil the specific learning outcomes for early learners. Each book contains: Simple instructions Revisions to ensure mastery Practices in recognising and writing numbers

hi

LEARNIN G NUMBERS introduces your child to the correct way of forming numbers, and links the numbers to their words and the sound they make. Start from the beginning of the book and work through it in page order. LEARNIN G NUMBERS has been written in a way to introduce early learners to concepts in a careful, step -by -step progression.

Choose a quiet time and a suitable place to enjoy this book with your child. Have fun looking at the numbers together. Discuss with your child the shape of each number and ask your child questions to link the activity to his or her own experience. For example: “ What does the number 2 look like? Have you ever seen any animal looking like that?”

Tracing

Pre-schoolers may not be ready to write numbers correctly on their own yet. Before trying with a pencil, guide your child to trace the numbers with finger. The dot in each number indicates “start”. The arrow shows the proper and easiest construction of the number. This will help your child develop legible handwriting and strengthen fine motor muscles to get little fingers ready to write numbers. Encourage your child to say the number out loud as he traces. This will help reinforce number recognition and reading skill.

Writing

When it comes to number recognition, repetition is the key to success for early learners. The more they are exposed to written numbers, the easier it will be for them to recognise and differentiate between them. All the exercises in this book can be repeated on pieces of paper. Show your child how you write, and let your child join you. Posture Guide your child to hold the pencil firmly between his

Message to parents and teachers:

If your child wants to stop after certain activity, do so and reintroduce it another time. Do not let him to feel overwhelmed or it will discourage him. It is suggested to not spend too long on one type of activity. Try to vary the things you do together. You can create and apply your very own fun activities, so that both you and your child will find learning fun, exciting and enjoyable.

Tips for

Parents/Teachers

The numbers 11 – 20 are tricky for kids to learn. Note that it is common if your child thinks that 11 is called ‘eleven-teen’. Show your child the names of the teen numbers with the endings highlighted.
