Hi! My name is Lavinia, I am from Italy and have moved to London to complete my architecture studies. I have exhibited at LFA, been published on OPEN Book multiple years and selected among top portfolios of the academic year. I enjoy participating in projects outside the academic curriculum, research and studies in the realm of architectural education, design and philosophy. I have worked in Academia, working as a tutor teaching assistant in the BA course at UoW and held the role of Student Rep. I develop my own traditional and graphic art and have indipendently worked on branding projects and social media coordination.

+ the F.A.R.M.

towards a new ergotopia Ergotopia is a regeneration vision that sits within a wider masterplan design, The Farm, for the area of Hornsea, Yorkshire. The design proposal derives from the study of long-term effects of climate change on the area, specifically the risk of flooding and land loss. The Farm (FutureFlooding Alternative Regeneration Microcosm) is a masterplan that proposes a regeneration model (thought of as a cell structure prototype) that tackles the issue of future-flooding brought by climate change in Hornsea. The vision is based on the reversal of the roles of land and water, a binomial relationship that swaps its addenda in favour of the survival of life. The model chooses to consider flooding as a challenge to be addressed and tackled as an opportunity to explore new forms of living, building and society. Like the mitochondria in a cell, one of its main function is to provide industrial production space to serve The Farm and its community, which is housed in the ‘Ministry of Ergon’. Other parts of the masterplan include the ‘Temples for Astos’ which aim to relocate lost residential buildings within a new modular and adaptable system and ‘The Barrier to Physis’, a hydropower plant embedded in flood managing gates that sit within a bridge structure with rail. The structure spans between the two banks of the Hornsea Mere tackling the issue of connectivity in a proactive way.

SITE Hornsea is around 25 kilometres north-east of Hull, on the Holderness coast. It is famous for its gorgeous and tranquil beaches, which are usually visited during the summer months. Yorkshire’s largest freshwater lake, Hornsea Mere, is home to over 250 species of birds and offers sailing and fishing activities. Hornsea is on the verge of extinction, with half of its terrirory expected to vanish by 2050 and nearly all of it by 2100. Population: 8,432 Unitary Authority: East Riding of Yorkshire Region: Yorkshire and the Humber

+the F.A.R.M. site soil studies and site phasing

SOIL STUDIES Soil Studies show the permeability of the soil, the bedrock and typology of land use, in addition to soil strength. These information are useful in deciding aspects of the design such as location of buildings, foundation types needed and land loss types to be replaced.

museum of the forgotten artifacts Parthenope brings to light the intrinsic and fundamental elements of Naples upon which the Neapolitan culture is funded. The scheme integrates a museum space and archive with a cruise-ship terminal which aims to bringing together culture and tourism in a new way. The archive tries to unveil the deep roots of the city’s culture through the display of ancient objects dating to Roman and Greek times, testament to the rich past of Parthenope (Naples) and the multitude of populations that have stepped on its grounds. These objects that have over time been forgotten or are particular and difficult to understand, can be studied and looked at closely, providing a one-to-one experience of history and its meanings: complex and extravagant, rich in culture and traditions. The programme develops on the port, establishing once again a connection with the sea, one on Napoli’s core elements, and redevelops the under-used industrial harbour, connecting it with its origins and evolving its current urban fabric.
