LOVE
WHERE YOU LIVE
‘‘
My wife and I had John Huryn build two homes for us in Vero Beach – one on the ocean at Windsor and one on Painted Bunting Lane in Riomar. We could not have been more pleased with the quality of workmanship, the attention to detail, and the on-time completion of each home. However, what we value most is the fact the John and his company stand behind the product they deliver.

Release your inner travel bug. Explore, wander about . . . get lost! Our days are starting to get shorter - a gentle reminder that before we know it, our quiet little beach town will resume the crowded fast-pace of yet another new season. The kids have returned to school and our lives resume to scheduled regimens once again. We long for those carefree days of summer where our biggest decision of the day was what to do and where to play. I know for my family, it’s difficult to truly unplug from the day-to-day stresses. This summer, we traveled to the “Nature Island” of Dominica and did just that. Leaving our little slice of paradise can be hard since we live in such a beautiful place, but sometimes everyone needs a change of scenery. Discovering new places is always exciting! In this issue, we uncovered weekenders that live aboard their yacht from Friday to Sunday, staying mostly moored to the dock, socializing with fellow boaters. Ahh! The life! Our next wanderlusters are the Wynns who originally started out RVing across the states but have recently traded in their road maps for nautical charts. They plan to sail to the Bahamas on their liveaboard catamaran. Ironically, they bought their new home on the water right here in Vero Beach! Our very own Kelly Beard and her husband, Justin, left the land of sunshine in their “Riveted Roost” and headed to the Rockies where they lived for many months in their beloved Airstream. The latest trends are “tree camping” and “glamping” in retro styled new RVs like the one on pages 20 and 21. Florida has so many wonderful places to get outside and explore. With the weather heading into fall, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend time outside camping and stargazing! Unleash your inner explorer. There are so many undiscovered places right here in our community. Try something new. Unplug, even if it’s just for a day or a weekend! See you out exploring,

Travel is not defined by the miles you cover.
Often, there is so much to discover right in your own backyard. After all, we live where others vacation, right? Most people love traveling to exotic locations, but you really don’t have to. Just take a wrong turn, get lost. Discover new places right where you live. Play tourist one weekend! Wander about. You might be shocked at how little you really know about where you live and the surrounding areas. When we travel, our minds are excited and open to new discoveries. Even the simplest things can have a sense of awe. What if we take that sense of wonder and apply it to our lives every single day? Make an effort to learn more about the places right down the road. All aboard The Elizabeth, a luxurious motor yacht that recaptured her beauty in 2014, you’ll immediately feel like you’re on a movie set of the Titanic. This beautiful yacht is privately owned and spends most of the time moored at a slip in Palm Beach. Occasionally, its owners prefer a change of scenery and the crew navigates The Elizabeth to the Bahamas. Built in 1999 in New Orleans at the Trinity Shipyard, Elizabeth offers tons of space for entertaining guests, or if you prefer, relaxation. This immaculate 118-foot vessel sleeps nine guests in four cabins and has a very attentive crew of five. She’s constructed in aluminum, has a bright white hull, and cuts an impressive figure on the water. The Elizabeth is powered by two Caterpillar 3412B engines that allow her to reach a top speed of 21 knots. She cruises comfortably at 12 knots. To see more of this magnificent yacht, browse the photo gallery at www.moranyachts.com where Elizabeth is offered for sale by Moran Yachts, or call Kevin Callahan, (954) 913-6316. wanderlusting Wynns
Because life is a grand adventure not a spectator event. Meet Jason and Nikki Wynn. These true adventurers live life to the fullest and are so inspiring! Branching out of your comfort zone can be exhilarating, but it can also be terrifying. The Wynns share their real life travels living and loving life, and inspiring others to do the same. Jump on board as they share their passion for exploring the great outdoors no matter what port they currently call home. Q: What did you both do before you became wanderers? A: We left what we called “normal life” back in 2010. We lived and worked from a 4,000 square foot studio in downtown Dallas, Texas. We’re both self-made entrepreneurs who came from working class families who taught us to work hard, under promise, and over deliver. Jason was a photographer who shot everything from high-end weddings and events, to corporate commercial work. I was a print and production makeup artist and stylist, working on everything from high-end weddings to commercials. We’ve never sat behind a cubical. Typically, our jobs were somewhere outside and beautiful, or indoors and beautiful, but rarely was it undesirable. Our jobs were good and our clients were great. So naturally, when we decided to sell everything we owned and close the doors to our studio to live in a 32-foot motor home and travel North America, some people thought we were crazy. Q: What inspires you? A: Nature inspires us more than anything else. Politics can seem grim, crime can be scary, abuse is saddening but nature…nature is a safe haven. Watching sunsets in wild desert landscapes, hiking through dense green forests, and swimming through clear blue waters makes the world feel right again. 16
September-October 2016
Next to nature would be people. People are inherently good and we’ve met some incredibly inspiring people. Especially small towns, they are always filled interesting people. Q: Was there an “aha moment” that made you become wanderers? A: There wasn’t one singular defining moment for us. Since we traveled a lot for work, we had the opportunity to see a lot of places but not really explore them. The more we traveled, the more we wanted to explore. Then, there was the fact we lived in Dallas— a great place, but it was still a concrete city. We found ourselves escaping to places like Colorado and California every chance we could. We eventually realized that we didn’t want to spend the rest of our lives in Dallas and wanted to find a new place to live. That’s what sparked the idea of a long road trip in a motor home. We thought we would go on a one or two-year road trip to find a new place to settle down. It only took a few months for us to realize we already found what we were looking for. We thought, why live in one place when you can live everywhere! Q: RV vs. Sailboat? A: Both are fantastic forms of transportation and living with a long list of ups and downs. www.portfolio-verobeach.com
Q: How did you find your boat in Vero Beach? A: We’re completely new to the sailing world. We’re learning as we go and we are big believers of asking for help. Our friends recommended that we talk to Kent from Just Catamarans in Fort Lauderdale. Just Catamarans is known for being the number one service center, but they also have a brokerage side. Kent inquired about catamarans all over the world for us and we spent lots of time looking at boats. It was on one of those “kicking tires” days that we found our boat in Vero Beach, a 2005 Leopard 43. Kent was familiar with the boat in Vero because they had done a lot of the service work. It was obvious the previous owners had taken great care of the boat and that put it at the top of our list. Q: Why that specific boat? A: The biggest reason was it had never been chartered, was very well maintained, it had the owners’ version layout and Leopard is a well-known brand that builds seaworthy boats. Leopard makes everything accessible, which makes doing service work ourselves so much easier. Q: Did either of you have previous sailing experience or spend a lot of time on a boat? A: We are they type of people that when we decide to do something, we do it. We don’t let fear, what others might think, or anything else stand in our way. We bought an RV without any previous experience and we bought a sailboat without knowing how to sail. Since purchasing the boat and moving aboard, we’ve taken classes through Bluewater Sailing School. Q: Do you feel like life is somewhat “normal?” A: We work, cook, clean, do laundry and go grocery shopping just like everyone else. We have family drama and bad days. We just do it all in exotic locations. For us, the biggest difference is the ever-changing scenery. We always have something new to explore, new people to meet, and new experiences. Q: Where are you sailing this year? A: For now, our goal is to make it to the Bahamas, because we haven’t been there yet. After that, whatever direction the wind takes us. www.portfolio-verobeach.com
Q: Can anyone live this lifestyle? A: Yes! Where there is a will, there is a way. We all do things a little differently, have different needs, wants and budgets. This is a lifestyle just like living in a home or an apartment. Q: Is the cost of living similar to what you had in Dallas? A: You could choose lots of different lifestyles and live on the same budget. It may be more or less glamorous, but it can be done. I haven’t lived the sailing life long enough to comment on the costs yet. As for RVing—we spent less money living a life of travel than we did living in our studio in Dallas. We’ve documented our costs on our website. Q: What’s your best advice? A: Stop dreaming and start doing. There is an anonymous quote that I love, “Dreams only work when you do.” Q: Are you doing this for pleasure? A: Gone With The Wynns is our pleasure, our passion and business all wrapped up in one. Sure, we still keep some odd jobs to help pay bills, but our website is where our heart is. What started out as simply sharing our adventurous way of life with friends and family turned into a full time passion. We devote more hours to creating video, answering questions and interacting with our viewers than we ever have to any other job, and we do it because we love it. Q: How can our readers help support you? A: Some people offer up words of encouragement through comments, share our videos, and those who feel we’ve truly contributed something to their lives say thanks by becoming a patron. We have a Tip Jar page on our website where we talk about the different ways someone can “Say Thanks” and most of them don’t cost a penny. We’re all about encouraging people to get out there and live— whether that’s a weekend adventure, or a perpetual one like ours. Life’s not meant to be lived in one place. She was parked next to U.S. 1 in Sebastian, gleaming in the Florida sun, beckoning to us. I’ll never forget that fateful day when our 1960 Airstream Overlander, affectionately known as The Riveted Roost, found us. She caught my eye from the side of the road where she sat with a ‘For Sale’ sign. I begged my husband, Justin, to stop. We weren’t actively looking for a camper, but always dreamed of owning an Airstream. The next thing we knew, that silver trailer was following us home. The Riveted Roost was like a rescue dog in need of a lot of rehabilitation. During the last couple years, we’ve invested a great deal of blood, sweat, and tears into her restoration. What began as a vessel to allow us to camp during Florida’s sweltering summers has since opened a whole new realm of opportunity for us to travel and satisfy our wanderlust. Unbeknownst to us at the time, she would eventually become our temporary home. Justin grew up in Vero Beach and I grew up in Sebastian. We were content, but we realized the so-called “American Dream” of owning a home, settling down, and having kids wasn’t our dream. We yearned to spend every spare moment traveling and embarking on new adventures. Our home in Stuart was in a constant state of remodeling. The plan was to sell the house, move into the Airstream with our two hound dogs, and head to California to explore a different part of the country. However, life doesn’t always go according to plan. Justin received a great job in Denver and needed to start in exactly one month. We immediately went into overdrive. The process of finishing the remodel, selling our home, and moving across country was a whirlwind. Preparing for our departure was intense and exhausting, but much like ripping off a Band-Aid, it was probably the best way to handle it. Less than a week after listing our house, we accepted an offer. The prospect of moving across the country became less daunting without a mortgage payment looming overhead. After prepping the Airstream for the trip and saying our goodbyes, we hit the road. Despite our deadline, we didn’t want to rush the journey. Getting in the truck and driving west was, by far, the easiest part of the transition. After all that purging and packing, we could finally sit back and enjoy the ride. Along the way, we camped at Falling Waters State Park in Florida’s panhandle; Sam Houston Jones State Park near Lake Charles, LA; McKinney Falls State Park near Austin, TX; and Palo Duro Canyon State Park outside Amarillo, TX. The journey went by quickly, but we enjoyed every moment— every hike, every meal at a tiny mom and pop restaurant—each day we had a new backyard. Exploring the varied terrain of this great country was exhilarating. Upon arriving in Denver, we bounced around from campground to campground in our silver trailer for more than four months. We survived hail, snow, and hurricane-force winds, not to mention the complexities of living in a tiny home during winter with two large dogs. The perfect house finally presented itself, nestled in the mountains between Golden Gate Canyon State Park and Roosevelt National Forest at a lofty altitude of 9,300 feet. We moved in just before Christmas and couldn’t be happier. It’s like glamping every day— all the comforts of home, along with stunning views you can usually only find in the backcountry. Now, we enjoy exploring our new mountain home – and iconic destinations like Telluride, Moab, the Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone are only a day trip away. We hope that by sharing our story, others will be inspired to step out of their comfort zones to travel, explore, and follow their dreams. Discover Your Inner Explorer in Dominica
The Nature Island: Unspoiled. Rugged. Breathtakingly Beautiful.
D
ominica is not the Dominican Republic. Instead, this little volcanic diving and hiking paradise can be found in the northernmost Eastern Caribbean Island of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles chain. Known as a diving mecca, this natural beauty had an explosive beginning. When you dive on a wall here, you’re actually descending on the rim of an ancient volcano. According to history, the island was thrust upward by two colliding tectonic plates more than 25 million years ago. This fiery collision gave birth to one of the prettiest, unspoiled islands on this planet. If you’re expecting a big resort, fancy restaurants, and tons of nightlife, cross Dominica off your bucket list. However, if you’re ready to unplug, rejuvenate, reconnect with your family, and get out and explore—book your travel plans now! Diving here is amazing no matter what your comfort level is in the water. Exploring shallow reefs (my personal favorite was Champagne Reef), to investigating deep drop-off ledges formed by the volcanic slopes, the underwater views did not disappoint. From colorful fish, to bright coral heads and sponges, it was easy to relax and be free under the sea. Exploring the island topside was also a great adventure. The Nature Island is rich in Creole-influenced culture and Dominica’s striking waterfalls and rainforest are breathtaking. Make sure you visit the Kalinago Territory, located on the northeast side of the island, on the Atlantic Ocean. It has more than 3,700 acres and is the last settlement of the Kalinago tribe. These 3,000 natives are descendants from the original Carib tribe, which gave its name to the Caribbean Sea. The villages are a reminder of a much simpler life where one lives off the land and the sea. Local Kalinago artisans create handmade baskets and carvings which make for a great souvenir to remind you of your time spent on Dominica. Learn more at Dominica.dm. By Penny Tranchilla 24

Can You Dig It? Sea Turtle Update
T
he months of July and August were very busy for the Indian River Sea Turtle Program. Not only did the nest surveying team record a new record number of loggerhead nests for Indian River County, the education team rolled out a new program event called a “Turtle Dig.” At this new event, which occurred three days after specially marked nests hatched, guests circled around a roped off area to listen to a short presentation about sea turtle facts, impacts to sea turtle survival, and ways everyone can help protect sea turtles. People of all ages watched trained and permitted team members evaluate the success of the hatched nest by collecting counts of how many hatched and unhatched eggs were left in the clutch. Hatched and unhatched whole eggs were taken around for guests to see up close, then after, any surprise hatchlings rescued from the nest were released to the ocean.
26
September-October 2016
Although we never knew exactly when our nests were going to hatch, each of the turtle digs were extremely popular thanks to everyone sharing the event dates on Facebook and for Vero Beach’s Turtle Friendly Businesses (Vero Beach Hotel and Spa, Holiday Inn Beachside, Ocean Grill, Costa D’ Este Hotel, Bouche’ Brothers, and Shark Bait Rentals) for promoting Turtle Dig dates once nests hatched. Even though these events are over for the 2016 nesting season, they will continue every July and August to help the county achieve their sea turtle conservation goals outlined in the Indian River County Habitat Conservation Plan. If you are one of the lucky people walking the beach at night who discover a sea turtle nest hatching, here are three things to remember: • Do not use white flashlights, the light can spook adult nesting turtles and can cause hatchlings to crawl the wrong direction, away from the ocean. • Keep your distance from the turtles and do not pick them up. We ask that everyone enjoy nature as nature should be. • If you see an injured or dead sea turtle, call 1-888-404-FWCC (3922). Surf’s Up!
Updates on the latest surf trends from Longboard House.
The long awaited Surf Expo is always the first week of September. We talked to Mike Mann, owner of Longboard House in Indialantic, to see what’s new and what’s trending. How much has the sport changed in the fifty or so years you’ve been surfing? Mike: Where do I begin? I remember when you would surf 8 days in a row and never see anyone else in the water. What’s the attraction? Mike: Get on a board, paddle out and catch a few and you’ll find out quick. (smiling) How was your summer? Mike: Great! We had a few good days of surf mixed in with some small but super clean surf most of the summer. What’s been trending in board sales? Mike: Longboards have been really selling good! What kind? Mike: Our top 3 sellers have been the CJ Nelson’s, Harley Ingleby’s and the Guy Takayama’s for sure. What’s so special about them? Mike: Superior performance with superior construction. How about short boards? Mike: The new FireWire’s are buzzing right now! The new Kelly Slater models are also really moving! What do you think about the news? Mike: What news? Surfing in the Olympics 2020. Mike: We are stoked! It’s going to be interesting to see how they pick the competitors. www.portfolio-verobeach.com
Any exciting news happening at Longboard House and Paddleboard House? Mike: Yes! We are going to start having movie night on the beach once a month staring in September. Movie night on the beach under the stars? Mike: It’s just for fun. Just for everyone to get together on the beach and have a good time. In the end, that’s what it’s all about! Spending time with your family and friends is what makes this the best sport out there! Keep checking our Facebook page or website for more information. Hope to see you all there! S
ince the 1950s, Hobie® has been an industry leader in creating unique lifestyle products that are innovative, and centered around outdoor fun and water. Their products continue to evolve and improve. As an avid stand up paddler, I was anxious to try the new Hobie Mirage Eclipse stand up pedal board. This new board offers an incredible fitness component, and is perfect for those of us who love being outside. We’re active, outdoor fun-in-the-sun seekers and although we love exercising, we want to do it on our terms, not inside a gym. The pedal system is very similar to Hobie’s kayaks. What’s nice about the Eclipse is that you can use the board as a regular stand-up paddleboard, or you have the option to use it as an outdoor stair stepper to exercise on the water and soak up your vitamin D, too! Just step on the board, and you’re off. It was nice to step and cruise around the ocean, so easy, so fun, and so simple! On the handlebars, you squeeze the right one to turn right, and the left turns you toward the left. Eclipse has plenty of room for extra gear, an extra person, or the family dog to join you on the stern. It has bungees on the aft deck to keep your gear secure. Accessories include a cart for easy transporting, and a protective board bag. There is also a cup holder and universal phone mount available to keep you hydrated and ready to capture that moment when the dolphins are swimming beside you! Photos by Joe Semkow

Mullet Migration In Full Effect
I
t’s been a long, hot summer and I hope everyone had a fish-filled couple of months. September is the start of the fall mullet migration, which last through October in the Indian River Lagoon and off our beaches. This is definitely my favorite time of year. Tarpon, Snook, Jacks, and many other species are gouging on the millions of mullet that swim south for the winter. If you’ve never seen it before, just walk down to the beach and enjoy the show. Early morning and late afternoon are typically the most active times, but the mayhem can last all day long at times. Be careful swimming because there are a lot of sharks close to shore. Enjoy and please catch and release so everyone can have fun for years to come. Tight lines.

Reclaimed and Thoughtfully Handmade Finding beauty in humble materials.
T
his Vero Beach native and St. Edwards ‘09 graduate finds beauty in humble materials— reclaimed Florida plantation wood, raw concrete, and salvaged goods. When you peek into the barn where artist Mazie Purcell works, you see the scope of her creativity. In progress are custom signs, concrete succulent planters, and industrial light fixtures, to name a few. “Southern Reclaim Co. was built out of my passion for art, creativity, and connecting people to American-made products,” says Purcell. “I absolutely love transforming reclaimed materials into beautiful authentic goods, and I wholeheartedly believe in buying local and quality.” Take for instance her reclaimed wood world map from an 1873 Florida plantation. “That wood was the ceiling of the plantation’s cook house, which was typically separate from the main quarters due to heat and fire,” Purcell explains. “The wood has amazing natural character. I love that the family 34
September-October 2016
who commissioned the map not only has a piece of art, but a piece of history in their home as well.” Whether it’s a residential or commercial space, Purcell loves design, creating unique decor items out of unusual elements. “I’m the person that has a vision for items that others pass by. When something grabs my attention, I’m redesigning it in my head right there and then. I can picture it in a room, and visualize how it works in a space. That’s why I’m learning woodworking and welding to bring my ideas to life.” Having lived in Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Michigan, Purcell has a little bit of a gypsy soul. Her work reflects her travels, and she’s inspired by simplicity, clean designs, and natural tones. From woodworking and painting, to casting concrete, each piece is designed, built, and thoughtfully handmade by Purcell. “I’m incredibly thankful for all the support I’ve received and for how receptive people have been,” Purcell says. “I used to work in corporate sales, so it’s an amazing feeling to see people taking an interest in what I do. I can’t wait to see where it all leads.” Stay in touch with Southern Reclaim Co. at SouthernReclaimCo.com, see more of Purcell’s artwork at Etsy.com/Shop/SouthernReclaimCo. @southernreclaimco www.portfolio-verobeach.com

Laughter is the Best Medicine
Laughter wellness program brings joy, health benefits, and much more.
I
t’s amazing what a little laughter can do. Previously an active educator in the school system, Nancy C. Johnson, has taken teaching in a new, creative direction. She is a Certified Laughter Leader and has been leading laughter wellness programs for six years. Johnson is not a comedian; the laughter comes through audience participation with the use of laughter activities. To get the most out of the activities, the attendees need to relax and allow themselves to play. Sometimes it takes a few minutes, but the majority of people can do it. During a program, Johnson incorporates music, movement, education, deep breathing, and of course, laughter. “I looked around at your program and saw a lady who I have never seen laugh before,” said Janet Perry at Crossroads Christian Fellowship. “It was good to even get her to smile.” One of the main reasons Johnson became interested in spreading laughter was for the health benefits. “There continues to be additional research conducted on the positive effects that laughter and smiling can produce,” says Johnson. “For instance, there is the potential to increase energy, elevate mood, boost the immune system, relieve stress, and much more.”
36
September-October 2016
Johnson doesn’t claim that laughter is a permanent “fix” for anyone or anything. However, it can be an effective coping tool and can act as an instant vacation from a problem or situation. “It’s possible that it can give temporary relief from pain, since it can help relax muscles or by getting the mind on something so totally different,” Johnson explains. “It can increase endorphins in the body as well. Laughter can also help connect people.” Join Nancy Johnson at “Laugh for the Health of It” at the North Indian River County Library, 1001 Sebastian Blvd., Sebastian, on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 10:30am. Nancy resides in Sebastian and can be reached at planbsolutions@comcast.net, (772) 713-6030. www.portfolio-verobeach.com

Community Acupuncture Creates Healthy Living
The Point Acupuncture Clinic offers a unique hybrid of services at affordable fees.
I
f you’ve ever visited an acupuncture office, you’re probably familiar with the traditional healthcare setting where an acupuncturist sees you in a private room. On your first visit, there is an intake, followed by an oriental medical exam and acupuncture treatment. Your acupuncturist will advise an initial series of treatments, because acupuncture works best when given frequently. Just as you would need to go to the gym consistently to see results, the same is true for acupuncture. As your body responds and starts feeling better, repetition is needed to make the changes stick. For some, the cost of private care acupuncture and the availability of the practitioner can be obstacles to receiving treatment. With the intent of eliminating these barriers, acupuncturists Lisa Rohleder and Skip Van Meter of Portland, OR created a new model of acupuncture care called community acupuncture. Community Acupuncture began in 2002 when Rohleder and Van Meter rented a warehouse and began treating people as a group in recliners on a sliding fee scale. Today, this movement has swept the nation, with community clinics popping up everywhere. Most community clinics operate on the same basic principles: affordable fees, treatments given in a group setting, and problem-focused care. This model of care allows patients to receive the treatment they need at the frequency necessary to obtain lasting results. Vero Beach has a unique acupuncture clinic that offers a hybrid of community and private room acupuncture at affordable fees. The Point Acupuncture Clinic is located in downtown Vero Beach and was created by Angela King, AP, DOM, owner of Indian River Acupuncture. King’s new endeavor has attracted first-time patients as well as patrons of her private office who enjoy the ability to be seen immediately if a problem arises.
The Point operates on a walk-in basis and is staffed by two acupuncture physicians whom King has selected to join her team. Allison Snowden, AP, DOM and John Dalack, AP, DOM offer their passion for acupuncture and their expertise in the treatment of pain, headaches, stress, fatigue, insomnia, allergies, digestive issues, and women’s health. Cosmetic acupuncture is a featured service, and gives women a natural facelift without chemicals or surgery. King’s vision is that The Point will allow anyone to give acupuncture a try, and help more people utilize this ancient medicine for their modern healthcare. For more information about The Point Acupuncture Clinic, visit ThePointVero.com. Please see our ad on page 39.

T
he Countryside Corn Maze, located at Countryside Citrus in Wabasso, is returning this fall, bringing with it even more activities and special events for families to enjoy. The corn is planted and the maze will be open weekends, October 15 through November 20. What is a corn maze, you ask? “It’s like any other maze you would see on paper, only it’s larger-than-life and set in a cornfield,” explains Cheryl Roseland, whose family owns and operates Countryside Citrus. The folks at Countryside Citrus are part of a group of maze owners from around the country who combine corn mazes with family entertainment to create what is called “agritainment.” Visitors will find “cornundrums” throughout the maze, providing extra incentive to explore the entire maze.

September-October 2016
Be sure to bring your cameras and iPhones, because there are plenty of photo opportunities! The fun extends to beyond the five-acre maze, however. Returning this year is a pumpkin patch (bigger and better), corn cannon, pumpkin bowling, giant chess, bull lasso, duck races, tetherball, corn hole toss, corn box, kiddie train rides, and an old Florida nature trail. As if that weren’t enough to keep visitors busy for hours, Countryside has added a hillbilly hootenanny music station, ring toss, and a barnyard ball zone to the fun. Guests will work up an appetite, but have no fear, the good folks at Countryside Citrus have that covered, too. There will be plenty of beverages on hand to keep everyone hydrated, including fresh-squeezed orange juice and lemonade. In addition, they’ll have hamburgers and hot dogs, famous Countryside pulled pork, roasted corn, nachos, kettle corn, plus refreshing ice cream and snowballs. Admission is $10 per person, plus tax, and includes the corn maze and activities. The corn cannon and food are an additional fee. Children three and under are free. Visit CountrysideCornMaze.com for all the details, including the “big reveal” of this year’s theme and special schedule for corn-maze-by-flashlight nights, especially great for teens! Weekends, October 15 – November 20, 10am – 5pm Available Tuesdays and Wednesdays for field trips and groups. ailfish Brewing Company, the first commercial craft brewing company on the Treasure Coast, recently completed the expansion of their brewery to a 20-barrel system and has partnered with Southern Eagle to distribute and promote their two top selling craft beers throughout Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Indian River counties. Sailfish’s White Marlin WIT and Sunrise City IPA — two flagship brews that have created the Sailfish identity and culture — are being rolled out across the Treasure Coast. The Sailfish Taproom, which opened in 2013, is located in historic Edgartown in Fort Pierce and will continue to be a tasting place for new and seasonal beers. “Our goal as a company has always been to bring fresh, local craft beer to the Treasure Coast, and we are thankful for all the people who have supported us, and proud of our growth during the past three years” said Nick Bischoff, the founder and president of Sailfish. For Bischoff, who grew up and lives in Vero Beach, teaming up with Southern Eagle and the company’s president Philip Busch was a natural.

Bright Ideas and Big Dreams Function meets fashion with Chalpse wearable cell phone assesories.
F
rom idea to reality, Jennifer Nye has watched her invention develop into a full-blown business. The Vero Beach resident is the creator of Chlaspe accessories, wife to Philip Nye, and mother to three energetic children. Chlaspe is an acronym for her children’s names: Chloe, Avery, and Spencer. Nye came up with the idea for a wearable cell phone case while on vacation. Her family was visiting the zoo when she noticed that her nieces were holding expensive cell phones in their hands. When they weren’t using the phones, they put them in their pockets. This was not an ideal way to carry the phone—their hands were always full, or the pocket wasn’t adequate protection to prevent the phone from falling out. Nye knew there must be a place in the cell phone accessory market to combine function with fashion—something stylish that provides protection from breakage and loss. She investigated to see if this idea already existed, and it didn’t. With three young kids, the busy stay-at-home mom sat on the idea for a year. As cell phone usage grew, she thought about the idea again. She wore a mock version and people soon began to ask questions and show interest. By spring 2015, she was patent pending with the prototype being produced on the Treasure Coast. “I originally thought that Chlaspe would be license to manufacture,” Nye says. She received an offer in August 2015 but she had already become very involved in finding manufacturing locally. “I really loved the process. I decided to manufacture Chlaspe myself and take a chance. I enjoyed learning about business and design. I had such amazing support from talented 44
September-October 2016
businessmen and women in Vero and great encouragement from friends and family.” With total control in the process, Nye has learned photography, manufacturing, sales, distribution, and most of all, about never stopping in the face of obstacles. “Chlaspe is something I think about and work on every day,” Nye says. “I’m encouraged by the progress and excited to see what this year brings.” This business has brought Nye both gratification and gratitude. “This business has added greatly to my life, it has been full of many life lessons,” Nye says. “Instead of taking away from family and friends, Chlaspe allows me to see and feel their support. I’ve had an opportunity to be advised by people whom I respect and who are rooting for my success. I am able to teach my children that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, and that the only person who can stop you is yourself.” Find Chlaspe at Etsy.com/shop/Chlaspe. www.portfolio-verobeach.com

Birds of a

W
elcome all Quail Valley Members! At A Bead Above, we’re celebrating the arrival of the new “Quail nest,” and consider it a wonderful new addition to Royal Palm Pointe. Here are some interesting “quail” facts: In the Native American story “The Thunder Nation and the Eagle,” Thunder made Eagle the king of the birds, and gifted him with the authority over all other birds. Eagle had the duty to assign powers to the feathered fowl. To the quail, Eagle assigned the power to frighten men with the whirling sound of its flight dance. In migration, a bevy of these delightful birds still frighten sailors because of the weight of the birds when they land as a group. The Cherokee and Creek Indians celebrate the quail with dance, while the Mohave Tribe with Quail Clan and Pueblo hold it sacred to the earth. The King Quail is given as a gift from a lover to another in some societies. In Russian Imperial
48

times, the quail was the sign of the Tsar and the bird was glorified as the embodiment of the sun. Scarlet red in China, it is associated with the phoenix and honored for its courage. A sacred bird of Apollo, the ancient Greeks believed quail immune to poisons. It is a hearty bird with 45 different varieties divided into just two families, and yet, all of their eggs look very similar. They are usually light brown with darker brown speckles and freckles. We love and appreciate the gift of your patronage. We also recognize the many local charitable good works that our local Quail community does; indeed, we wish you many lovely moments with your family here on Royal Palm Pointe. It was creative bliss to conceptualize a new jeweled egg adornment for this wonderful opening of the new Quail Valley at the Pointe. As a matter of fact, the wheels of my creative imagination began to spin the moment I learned of our new neighbors! I’m very excited to show you how you have inspired me. Stop by and introduce yourself. I am excited to meet you! By Penny Batson, President & Designer A Bead Above, Inc. Look for the latest floor fashion trends at Abbate Creative Tile & Marble.
T
he Italians are known for their sleek designs in the fashion industry, so it probably won’t come as a surprise that they are also known for their cutting-edge tile designs and top-quality products. Two of the largest tile and stone shows in the world will take place in Italy at the end of September. People will travel from all over to see the latest styles in floor fashion. The most dramatic change in the tile industry is the ever-growing size of tile. The new motto seems to be “The bigger ,the better.” The days of the 12 by 12-inch tiles are long gone, and 18 by 18-inch tiles are becoming more and more difficult to find. The new supersize tiles are 30-inches or larger and are available in various shapes. The large format tiles are being installed in a similar fashion to marble with very minimal grout lines. Wood-look tile is here to stay and growing rapidly in popularity. The latest technology has taken this eco-friendly tile to a whole new level. It went from being a bad knockoff to an exact replica of wood. The Italians have found a way to add texture and warmth to the tile, creating the same ambiance as the real thing. Of course, the major advantages of using this 50
September-October 2016
product instead of real wood is that it won’t scratch, it is not susceptible to water damage, and requires virtually no maintenance. Is it possible to make this product any better? We will soon see. Porcelain tile is also giving marble a run for its money. The marble look is being duplicated with the use of high quality digital images. It provides the high-end look of marble while being cost effective and more durable. You don’t have to worry about staining with the porcelain tile because it is not porous. This year, we expect to see expanded lines featuring new colors and stone varieties in the marble-look tile. If you want to see the latest tile designs, don’t worry, you don’t have to travel to Italy. We will begin receiving the new tile lines before the end of the year. Dimensional, vibrant color is the easiest way to transform your look.
F
rom dimensional blondes and ruby reds, to decadent brunettes and vibrant jewel tones, hair color plays an important role in self-identification. Hair color is the easiest way to transform into the person so many of us keep hidden. While it’s a fun way to let loose, it is important to know how to keep the hair’s integrity, vivacity and health. Too many times, over-processed hair fades into dullness because of poor home care or refusal of professional hair artists to perform to their utmost ability. Purchasing over-the-counter hair color doesn’t bring out the transformative power like visiting a professional specializing in the latest color trends. Not to mention, professional hair care products are infused with conditioning

ingredients created to nurture strands, preserve color, and give luster. The same holds true for professional skin care. With regular facial treatments, makeup will inevitably look crisper and more vivid. The secret for brighter, more vivacious makeup is to draw out the deep-rooted impurities and maintain the freshness of cleanliness. Nurturing the skin is beyond a luxury; it is a necessity for healthier, younger looking skin. Regular visits to a skincare specialist is vital for glowing, flawless skin, and makeup that will contribute to self-identity. Eminence Hair Design, conveniently located 20 minutes north of Vero Beach at 967-C Sebastian Boulevard, proudly serves guests as if they were royalty. With careful consideration to each hair and skincare need, guests acquire a renewed sense of self. Success and Higher Education
When searching for that elusive concept, focus on opportunity, not predefined notions of what we should do in life.
T
here’s a crisis in society that nobody seems to acknowledge. Those with high school students know what I’m talking about. I’ve seen how the pressure can drive individuals crazy, pushing them away from rational decision-making. I’ve seen the tears and the panic, the frantic calls late at night seeking confirmation that every decision is according to “The Plan.” Sometimes, I wonder if anyone questions The Plan itself. I’m not one to discourage competition, but for something as complex as defining success in higher education and life, we seem to have reduced it to the narrowest of concepts. Psychology suggests that we often think of success in relative terms; in other words, we’re always comparing. It’s no surprise then that this is reflected in how we think about education. The thing that students and parents prioritize the most is getting into a top-ranked school. But do they ever ask where those rankings come from? The most frequently cited list is U.S. News and World Report, but how many people have read the methodology? Success has come to exclusively be defined by something we don’t really even understand. As a result, students have devised a simple formula to get there: school, homework, extracurricular activities, sleep, repeat. It’s become a game, and we’re willing to do anything to win. We know colleges want community service, so we start our own non-profit organizations regardless of impact. We’re told certain activities look “better” on our resumes, so we force ourselves to forego things we’re really passionate about. As one student
54
September-October 2016
put it, “At some point, you’re just trying to win the game, you don’t actually care about learning or impact.” It’s clear that a lot of this phenomenon is driven by demand at top universities, and that’s not a bad thing. Indeed, I’m a firm advocate for pushing kids to work hard and find success. But I’m not willing to narrow my definition of success to the current one being served. At what cost to our kids are we following along? A staggering 49 percent of high school students feel a “great deal of stress,” what many psychologists classify as chronic, on a daily basis. College counselling services are facing demand that they’ve never seen before. Are we ready to accept this as a fait accompli? I for one am not. I know there’s another way. We’re living in a world of unprecedented opportunity, no matter what the cynics say. I’ve seen it first-hand. We can study and work in a more diverse range of fields than ever before. We have the ability to travel across continents in a matter of hours, and universities around the world are opening their doors to foreign students. Companies are looking for individuals that possess all different types of intelligence. They’re looking for people that can think and reason and solve problems. Given this landscape, we have to think that the greatest opportunities are yet to come. We can’t define success in the current narrow way, because it doesn’t reflect reality. So let’s compete, let’s work hard, let’s all strive to be the best in our fields. But don’t tell people that your child has to go to Harvard. Because it simply isn’t true. Franke Goes to Hollywood Happy Fall, Y’all
G
reetings Eastsiders! I hope everyone enjoyed their summer as much as I did. I’ll be ending this season with the inaugural “Franke Goes to Hollywood Dive-In Movie Night” at my rooftop pool. The leaves might not be changing here, but I can feel it in the air. My favorite season is approaching, and all the more reason to fall in love with Los Angeles. One of the most encouraged fall activities here in L.A. includes stuffing your face with authentic German food and lots of fantastic beer. Dust off your Lederhosen and mark your calendars for L.A. Oktoberfest , Oct. 21-23. Put the pumpkin spice lattes down and broaden your culinary horizons. I recommend sampling your way around the Brew HAHA Craft Beer Festival, wineL.A.’s Fried Chicken and Champagne, and The Taste L.A. at Paramount Pictures Studios. If you prefer big hats and even bigger bets, you can’t go wrong with Brunch at the Races at Santa Anita Park. Don’t pack up your festival gear just yet. Fall brings some epic festivals and concerts. All-star line-ups at these festivals are sure to give the summer fests a run for their money. I’m anxiously awaiting my tickets to Beach Goth Fest and Ohana Fest Dana Point. The fall concert roster is looking sensational with headliners like Beyoncé, Adele, Drake, Thievery Corporation, Cindy Lauper, Sigur Rós, Van Morrison, and SIA. Even BLINK 182 is making a comeback. The much-anticipated brisk weather will make statement furs and velvet a practical fashion trend for fall festivals.

When traveling, staying in the same five-star luxury hotels can become so passé. I strive to think “out of the box” when booking accommodations. Thanks to great services like Airbnb and VRBO, I’m able to switch up my “stay style” while catering to my specific needs. VRBO and Luxury Retreats both feature vacation rentals at Paradise Cove Malibu, a mobile home park located on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific. High-end mobile homes and Airstreams are so trendy right now and are exceeding guests’ expectations. Nowhere but L.A. would famous stars like Minnie Driver, Pamela Anderson, and Matthew McConaughey all have their own customized mobile homes at Paradise Cove Malibu. This is no ordinary trailer park. Features include ocean views, private beaches, clubhouse, tennis, and luxury amenities. With the help of Elite Lyfe, an innovative company providing curated-travel experiences, I don’t have to be in a hotel to maintain that catered-to atmosphere. Despite what some might think, L.A. does have diverse seasons. While many around the country enjoy colorful foliage, we’ll be having rooftop Halloween parties, off the chart fall festivals, and enjoying college football to the fullest. Happy fall, y’all!

Capturing that
Special Moment
I
t was 1964 when Victor Verola took his first professional photograph in New York City. More than a half-century later, that passion has been realized as Verola Studios LLC, an award-winning photography and film production studio. As of 2016, the business employs nine photo and video professionals who cover weddings and shoot portraits. Verola Studio is a published studio covering all kinds of photography and videography. The studio also includes a commercial production component that has produced national advertising campaigns and television spots aired across numerous networks both domestically and internationally. Victor and Marina Verola, along with their son, Nick, and his wife, Dasha, carry Verola Studios forward into a new generation of possibilities using drones to capture rarely seen perspectives from the sky, full-size underwater camera rigs, sliding camera rigs, as well as the industry standard in jibs and lighting. While much has changed in the industry, for Nick and his family, three cornerstones of their business philosophy have stayed the same: quality, creativity, and consistency. “Quality means we will always use cutting-edge equipment and methods to create the highest quality images possible; creativity meaning our goals and thought process for each shoot will always be inspired and interesting; while consistency represents our commitment to delivering a high production value experience and product to every single client,” Nick explains. “Most media companies possess one or two of these characteristics, but few accomplish all three. One look at a Verola Studio film production and people can tell the

difference. We love bringing a Hollywood look to small town productions, our clients deserve the best and they love the results.” Despite everything Verola Studios does, weddings remain at its core, having now covered thousands of weddings and events over the years, always striving to capture the emotion, while never missing that special moment. Verola embraces the ever-changing industry and will never stop its commitment to creating beautiful images and telling stories that last a lifetime.

The Greeter
A very special sentry welcomes customers at Loggia On The Beach.
S
tanding sentry at the front door of Loggia On The Beach is an unusual watchman. Shy and sweet with soulful brown eyes, long ears, furry slippers, and a tail that waves like a flag, Riley Madigan welcomes customers with a quiet salutation. A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel of the ruby- and pearl-colored Blenheim variety, he was born in Bannow, Ireland. His name is Irish for ‘Courageous Little Dog,’ which his Mom dubbed him when he crossed the pond on his way to his new home. At 25 lbs. he’s not so little, but a larger, taller version of this beloved breed well known in Europe for being ‘shop dogs.’ Since their first day together, the two have been inseparable. He has accompanied her to work almost every day of his life. Riley is obedience trained, a certified therapy dog, and a beloved part of the Loggia staff. Many customers inquire as to his whereabouts when they don’t see him immediately. He is a fixture of hospitality at Loggia. A dog-friendly store, canines are always welcome and several stop by regularly with their owners for social calls. Each workday, he can be found walking along Ocean Drive with his Mom, store manager and Vero native, Diane Williamson, where he is right at home popping into other stores along the way. Regularly carrying a toy when he ventures out, it is a sight that brings a smile to those who pass by.
At the age of seven, he shows no sign of slowing down. Often he is mistaken for a puppy, he displays such enthusiasm for life, yet his overall demeanor is gentle, calm and poised. With his classic good looks, affectionate and playful personality, and well-bred Irish heritage, he makes every day more enjoyable for those who know and love him. “I couldn’t imagine a day without him,” says Williamson, ever thankful that Loggia owner Sandy How is a dog lover, too. “Being able to bring him to work with me is a gift beyond words!” Yes, all are welcome at Loggia On The Beach—canines, too! All Aboard! Tips for Traveling with Pets
T
hinking of driving or sailing into the sunset with your pets? In cases of current illness or extreme motion sickness, it may be best to leave them with a trusted pet sitter or boarding facility. If you decide to bring them, here are some travel tips that will help make your trip enjoyable. Whether journeying by automobile or boat, ensure your pet has current identification such as microchipping or a color photo, a leash or harness, their own food and water and bowls, adequate provision of current medications, and medical records from your veterinarian. They should be current on vaccinations, especially rabies, and any that may be recommended as per your destination. An emergency kit should include such essentials as phone numbers (your veterinarian, poison control), an extra leash, a muzzle, gauze, non-stick bandages, hydrogen peroxide, and a digital thermometer. Also be sure your pets’ nails are trimmed before departing to avoid to damage to them, you and any property. If traveling across state lines or to a different country, you must produce a health certificate signed by a veterinarian within 10 days of your departure. When traveling out of the country with your pets you must follow the regulations of the United States as well as the country you are visiting. Contact the consulate or the embassy of the countries on your itinerary. Your veterinarian can help with appropriate forms and certificates. Automobile travel can bring on travel sickness so carry appropriate medication. Pets often find comfort with a special blanket or toy or inside a crate. Schedule breaks every 2 to 3 hours so your pet may exercise and have access to water. Locate veterinary hospitals along your route for emergencies. Keep your pets’ heads inside the car when traveling to guard against flying debris and to protect their eyes, ears and mouth from dehydration and damage from fast moving wind. Contact your accommodations ahead of time to verify they accept pets and that you can meet any specific requirements they may have. For boat travel, follow all the recommendations listed above. Create a space on board the boat just for your pets and their belongings. Use rugs to prevent slipping and ramps to provide pets easy access on and off the boat. Applying children’s sunscreen products to their ears, nose and paws and providing a cool source of shade, since they do not sweat, are essential. Watch for heavy panting and drooling as early signs of heat stroke. Salt and brackish water are harmful to their digestive systems so always have cool fresh water available for them to drink. Perhaps most important is having a pet floatation device for each pet. Get them comfortable wearing it prior to your trip. Check ahead regarding pet policies at any marinas, parks and wildlife areas you plan to visit. Sunsets are calling. Bon Voyage!

BEACH SAFETY
BE AWARE OF TIDES: Always be aware of the tides when you are at the beach. Respect the ocean and stay safe. TAKE YOUR TRASH OFF THE BEACH: Remove all your trash from the beach. Find a trash can! Plastic bags can kill birds, turtles, and other sea creatures that can mistake the bag for food. Bring extra trash bags with you and do your part to help keep the beach beautiful. Love your ocean! SUPERVISE CHILDREN: Stay near your children and keep your eye on them. Never let children play in the water unsupervised. Play close to a lifeguard station. Teach your child to respect the ocean too. BE AWARE OF DANGEROUS RIP TIDES: Rip tides are strong currents that can pull a person away from the shore. If you get caught in a rip current, do not panic or struggle. Swim parallel to the beach and call for help. Never swim alone. Don’t swim out farther than you can swim back. It’s always best to swim near a lifeguard station. REPORT INJURED BIRDS OR MAMMALS: If you find an injured bird or mammal, do not touch it. Call 911 (non-emergency) and they will notify the proper authorities.
beach bag to quickly treat jellyfish stings. If snorkeling, be sure not to stand on or touch any reefs or wrecks. Respecting the wildlife helps ensure a successful beach day.
RESPECT THE WILDLIFE: Remember to do the “Stingray Shuffle” when entering shallow water to warn any stingrays that you’re coming into their territory! It’s always a good idea to keep a small bottle of vinegar in your
LIFEGUARDS: Several places throughout the county offer lifeguarded beaches. At each station, signs are available to notify beach goers of current surf conditions along with appropriate beach flag warnings.

life
in the stars
September is chock full of eclipses, in addition to Mercury being in retrograde until Sept. 21. This makes for a month that is likely to be rather intense for most of us. They key is to stay grounded and make major decisions only after careful consideration. October brings a bit of lightness after a rather intense September. The full moon on Oct. 15 is a wonderful time to think about what you have accomplished so far this year, and set your sights on what you want to complete before the year is over. ARIES: There won’t be a lot of free time to play during the first three weeks of September. This is the month to tend to your duties. Don’t expect a whole lot from others, as you need to depend on yourself more than anything. Be vigilant in October when it comes to your personal finances. Don’t lend money to anyone unless you don’t care if you ever get it back. You have worked hard for what you have achieved and by the end of October, you will start to reap the rewards. TAURUS: September is a bit of an up and down ride for you. There are a pack of planets in your house of romance and fun, but you also have some aspects indicating confusion and possible arguments around Sept. 12 and 13. Once Mercury goes direct on Sept. 21, you should feel more balanced. October is a nice month for all your personal relationships. Luck is on your side. Just watch your tongue around Oct. 28, when you might lose your cool over something that has been bothering you for some time. GEMINI: Generous and fun-loving Jupiter is setting off for Libra on Sept. 9. This will put you in an outgoing mood. Since Jupiter will be there for the next year, it might be difficult for you to focus on work. However, you need to keep your attention on money matters, especially around Sept. 11. The month of September is all about juggling work and pleasure. October continues this trend, and if you are currently single, you might meet someone very promising this month. No matter what, you should be presented with a collection of new people in your life. CANCER: Mercury is retrograde until Sept. 21, so things will not go as planned. The month of September might have you feeling a little cranky, as there may be some unexpected delays. However, it is just a temporary blip on the radar, because by the time we get to October, you will feel very inspired. There are lots of possibilities for good news, especially if you stay calm and remain patient, especially around Oct. 19 and 28. Do yourself a favor and try not to worry so much. Everything will work out much better than you ever expected. LEO: You have the ability to charm people and starting on Sept. 9, your talent for convincing others (of just about anything) will be super strong. If something that irritates you comes up around Sept. 11, just wait it out. It will probably blow over pretty quickly. Things seem to be paying off in the work department, however Oct. 19 brings a testy aspect, so try not to explode. If you are thinking of traveling, try to go before Oct. 28. VIRGO: Jupiter is leaving your sign on Sept. 9 and you will miss having the planet of good fortune’s protection. There will not be a lot of dull moments in September. You would be smart to begin a new exercise program or look for a new job. It is time for you to take major steps forward, both personally and in your work life. Oct. 2 brings an uncomfortable aspect where you might get irritated with someone who is not being reasonable. Oct. 14 brings a financial bonus. It’s a great time to go ahead and invest in something you believe in, which might just be yourself!

September-October 2016
LIBRA: The big astrological news for you is that Jupiter (the planet of good fortune) changes signs, from Virgo to Libra on Sept. 9 so you should feel a whole lot lighter. The two eclipses in September will signal that it is time to make some big changes. If you are not happy with your work or love life, it is time to do something different. The full moon on Oct. 15 lights up your area of relationships. Looks like you will be feeling quite expansive and emotionally generous for the last two weeks of October. Enjoy this bountiful time! SCORPIO: The solar eclipse on Sept. 1 has you feeling at odds with some of your friends. However, after Sept. 21 you will feel as if suddenly by magic, things clear up and your life picks up speed. Even though things might feel a big sluggish for the first couple weeks of September, keep your eyes on October when Venus and Mars are both in the sign of Scorpio. You should be the center of attention and loving every minute of it. SAGITTARIUS: Count on a whole lot of opportunities in September, both with friends and family. Whatever you set into motion on the solar eclipse on Sept. 1 will start to come to fruition by the end of the month. Eclipses signal big changes, so be prepared to make a giant leap forward. The new moon on Sept. 30 is a heavy duty one for you. Forget about relaxing in October. Even though you are a bit tired, you will have to rally and take advantage of all the opportunities. CAPRICORN: The lunar eclipse occurs on Sept. 16. This signals a major shift in your personal life. Perhaps a new romance, or a readjustment with your current situation is in the works. Either way, be open to change. The sun gets together with generous Jupiter on Sept. 25 so make sure you make hay while the sun shines. On Oct. 14, your ruling planet, Saturn, makes a lovely aspect with Mercury. If you need to ask for a raise or a favor, do it around Oct. 14. Watch your temper on Oct. 19. You might be very tempted to give someone a verbal lashing, but think twice. AQUARIUS: On Sept. 9, when Jupiter moves into your fellow air sign of Libra, everything with partnerships will be highlighted in a positive way. Your financial life will be triggered in September, starting with the solar eclipse on Sept. 1 and then a lunar eclipse on Sept. 16. As long as you are prepared for the unexpected, you shouldn’t worry. Aquarians are open to change, so you realize more than anyone that breaking patterns can be healthy. Mercury is retrograde until Sept. 21, so try to wait until after that date for any big decisions. The full moon on Oct. 15 brings something to the surface. Be grateful for the chance to clear the air. PISCES: You are well known for your incredible intuition, and in early September, if something doesn’t feel right, make sure you pay attention because something small could suddenly blow out of proportion. The final eclipse of 2016 will occur on Sept. 16 in your sign. For you, it is imperative that you be totally clear with yourself and others regarding what you really need and desire. The end of October is a wonderful time to travel, however there is an unpredictable aspect on Oct. 28 so again, listen to your intuition and be careful no matter where you are. Remember it is only with a full Astrological reading (based on your birthdate, exact time, and place of birth) that Astrology can be truly accurate.
