Peoria's Neighborhood Grant Program offers non-HOA Neighborhood Associations funding to improve their neighborhoods. The program aims to strengthen community connections and encourage lasting engagement. Residents interested in becoming neighborhood leaders are strongly encouraged to apply.
BLOCK PARTY TRAILER
The Block Party Trailer is FREE for City of Peoria residents to reserve. It is filled with items to help you and your neighbors have a successful block party! The purpose of the trailer is to build community and relationships between neighbors. Runs Oct. - May.

Junior Lifeguard Course (13-15)
This course is a requirement for those wishing to be City of Peoria Junior Lifeguards during the summer season, including all returning Junior Lifeguards. It provides an introduction to lifeguard responsibilities, swim lesson instruction, and CPR. Participant must have passed Stroke School Gold swim lessons and/or be able to swim 200 yards. Once the class is successfully completed, training/volunteer hours are available during the summer season. Please visit www.peoriaaz.gov/aquatics and click on Junior Lifeguards for more information.

How to Apply to be a Lifeguard for City of Peoria
Applications will open Jan. 1. All applicants must be either StarGuard or American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid, and CPR/AED certified at the time of the Water Test/Interview. (Please note: All City of Peoria Lifeguards must be StarGuard certified once hired. Lifeguards with American Red Cross certifications must take a StarGuard rollover course.)

Aquatics Programs
StarGuard Lifeguard Training (15+)
This course is offered as a blended learning format. In order to receive certification, class participants are required to complete an online pre-class work through the StarGuard Portal and attend all in-person sessions. A link will be shared with participants 1 week prior to class starting. Participants must be at least 15 years old by the end of class, be able to swim 50 yards (with head up), retrieve a 10 pound brick from 12 feet of water, tread water for 1 minute (without hands), and attend ALL classes.
Adaptive Swim Lessons are designed to teach swim skills, increase swimmer knowledge of safety around the water, maintain and increase physical fitness, achieve success, and receive recognition with an aquatic environment. This program is for participants ages 5 and up with cognitive or physical disabilities. The class ratio is 1:3.

Swim Team & Dive Team
The City of Peoria offers four seasonal recreational swim teams: Sunrise Red Sharks, Sunrise Green Sharks, Centennial Stingrays, Peoria Piranhas and three seasonal recreational dive teams: Sunrise Marlins, Sunrise Gators, and Peoria Dolphins. Practices are held Monday-Thursday from May 26 through July, with meets once a week. Registrations are first come first serve and do fill up quickly.
Tuesday, April 22, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.: Peoria residents returning to their same team from 2024 may register online or in-person at the Rio Vista Recreation Center (8866 W. Thunderbird Rd.). Registrations will not be taken for any new swimmers or divers or any non-residents on this day. Your spot on the team is guaranteed that day, but practice times are first come, first serve.
This course is offered as a blended learning format. In order to receive certification, class participants are required to complete online modules through the Starfish Portal and attend all in-person sessions. Instructor candidates will learn how to help students develop correct stroke technique, develop an understanding of how to teach students at different levels, develop water safety techniques, and learn how to evaluate participants’ progress.

The pools are available to be rented on Saturdays and Sundays only in the spring and summer months and can host up to 400 people for private parties. Dress for Success currently serves the west valley out of the Peoria Resource Center which is located inside the Community Center at 8335 W. Jefferson Street. Their Peoria office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Dress for Success provides a robust offering of life-changing services such as styling, a career center, and educational opportunities.
