WE ARE DEDIC ATED TO THE ESTHETIC AL RICHNESS and thematic diversity that
inspires us from Colombian cinematography. We, the team of Panorama Colombia in partnership with Mobile Kino will proudly present from the 14th until the 17th of March 2019, the fifth version of Panorama Colombia, the Colombian Film Festival in Berlin. In recent years, improvements in security and peace as well as the rise of a clear economic leadership in Colombia, have encouraged significant growth to our cinematographic industry, allowing our country to create its own place in a global market for exhibition, and promote an open discussion about Colombia’s cinematography on an influential level. With more than 25 produced in Colombia mostly in 2018, Panorama Colombia offers an original, selective and attractive program of films in several different formats, genres and productions, with the recent views of our cinematography. Our aim is to welcome Berliners, Germans and international audience, to become aware of the diversity and quality of authentic Colombian films, showing a whole new panorama of our cinematography. It is an honor for us to present to Berlin a program with the most outstanding movies produced in Colombia in the last years, structured with six colombian productions as a part of the official selection 2019, three films for the documentary selection, two short film programs, a special retrospective program of the director Jorge Navas and a video art and experimental film exhibition. Our selection will open space for the audience to create an own perspective. A personal, critical, reflexive and objective opinion about our cultural, political and economic situation and about our talents and the cinematographic growth. This is what we are doing at Panorama Colombia, creating and promoting new public spaces to spread and recognize the new Colombian cinematography throughout the world.
Bienvenidos a Panorama Colombia 2019.

COLOMBIA , 2016. D: GONZALO GUILLEN. 53 MIN, OmeU (SPANISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES). In the barren Colombian state of La Guajira, a region that helped inspire magical realism in the masterpiece of Colombia’s literature Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García-Márquez, the genocide of the biggest indigenous nation in the country took place as the only river in that area was literally stolen. The government of Colombia cut the flow and contained the waters of the Rancheria river in order to irrigate enormous industrial crops and assist the corporate operations of Cerrejón, the largest outdoor coal mine in the world. During the last five years, famine has killed over 7,000 children of the Wayúu nation, while 37,000 more are dying from malnutrition. “The River that was stolen” was recognized by the OAS’s Inter American Commission on Human Rights as evidentiary support in a lawsuit against the State of Colombia that purports to re-establish the natural flow of the waters of the Rancheria river and thus halt the rapid and inhumane Wayúu genocide.

Crocodile-men, a mystic river, some kids that like fishing and a war that ends share the same Colombian land: Bojayá. that
summon its most representative values cannot be summed up in a flat experience. The succession of actions and representations that black people gather in itself is a rhizomatic structure. ANZOÁTEGUI COLOMBIA , 2018. D: BIBIANA ROJA S GÓME Z, 16 MIN. OmeU (SPANISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLE S). Inspired by the director’s questions about the story of the hometown of her mother and grandmother, which they left forty years ago. The town’s name appeared in conversations, but she never heard the reason of their departure, so it became a mystery. Her questions led her to find episodes of the family story, both happy and dark, and met people who lived with them in town, enriching with their experience this story.
LA LIBERTAD COLOMBIA , FR ANCE, ME XICO, USA , 2017. D: L AUR A HUERTA S MILL ÁN. 29 MIN. Matriarchies have assembled around the backstrap loom, a weaving Pre-Hispanic technique preserved for centuries by indigenous women in Mesoamerica. ‘La Libertad’ unfolds like a weaving of figures and gestures constituting this labour, circulating between a domestic space, an archeology museum and a cooperative. Various communities and ecologies entwine around handicraft - tracing, echoing, articulating, expanding liberty.

COLOMBIA , ARGENTINA , 2009. D: JORGE NAVA S. C A ST: GLORIA MONTOYA , QUIQUE MENDOZ A , JUAN MIGUEL SILVA . 110 MIN, OmeU (SPANISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLE S). Jorge and Ángela, two solitary night owls, meet “by chance” and fate one rainy night along the dark and violent streets of Bogotá. Jorge, a young taxi driver, emotionally destroyed because of his brother’s recent death in the hands of a gang, against whom he vows revenge, and Angela, a beautiful night princess, addicted to both cocaine and the city mazes... Two solitary beings, questioning their own lives, stumble upon each other in the middle of a rainy night in the dark and violent streets of Bogota. In only six hours, the streets and their own ghosts will join and separate them in the middle of the void, just as the rain, as tears, will blur and dilute the traces of blood and pain over the cold asphalt.
