FOBE HOUSE. by architect GUILHEM EUSTACHE
INSPIRATIONS // For many years I regularly visited Morocco. From the first trip I was bewitched by that country and the three projects studied to date are certainly fed, to varying degrees, by all the images and impressions gathered during my stays. The work of main architects, painters, sculptors, conceptual artists or filmmakers of all periods and all schools have, I guess, more or less important influence on my work but in contrast I have no such sensibility to the effects of mode. A detail of a painting by Giorgio de Chirico, the crossing, early on the morning, of Dye baths in Fez, the tracking shot of a film of Orson Wells, the discovery of the Jantar Mantar site in Jaipur can be,for me, a source of inspiration conscious or not. All these impressions we Commisioner / Dimitri carry, some of them since de Clercq, Belgian film a very long time, will fit at producer and director. some point in our work, it’s Architect / Guilhem very mysterious. I find it dif- Eustache. ficult to establish precisely, Moroccan for this project, where and correspondent: Hicham when it refers to such or BELHOUARI, architect / such painter or architect Marrakech / Morocco. work. That’s why I’m always surprised when an architecture journalist accurately established similarities between my work and that of such artist. 115
DESCRIPTION OF FOBE DESIGN / A client introduced me to a film producer in Belgium. He offered me to draw up the plans of several houses on land he had bought in Marrakech, Morocco. are certainly fed, to varying degrees, by all the images and impressions gathered during my stays. The main difficulty was to define the program with the client. Originally we had planned to build three houses on this site. The project gradually decreased to finally the smallest of these three houses in order to preserve the field. The client informed me he bought a second larger plot (5 hectares) under the same conditions but closer to the Atlas in order to implement the other two houses. For this first project my desire was to establish a close dialogue with the land, vegetation and the atlas to
the horizon. Being a small house of 170 sqm on a plot of 2.5 hectares, we had to create a dynamic equilibrium despite this difference of scale. We played with light and shadow to enhance and strengthen the volumes. We used local materials and techniques like clay, tadelack, Pierre de Ourika. We have preserved the wildness of the land although we have planted more than 500 trees. We doubled the walls to help deal with the climate, creating room
high-rise and sun protections. Each region and country deserves architectural answers, adapted in line with requirements climatic, cultural and economic conditions.

WO RK DR UG S. INTERVIEW BY THE GOLDEN SOUL CLUB. thegoldensoulclub.com
WORK DRUGS is Benjamin Louisiana (more instrumental/less vocal) and Thomas Crystal (more vocal/ less instrumental), and they create super chill music with loads of dreamy lo-fi. Their music genre could be described as sedative wave or -why not- beach wave, they make music specifically for boating, sexting, dancing, yachting, and living, this is because their blend of chillwave and lo-fi inspirations, coupled with an expert ear for harmonies make their music perfect summer listening. When you hear one of their dozen tracks available on their Soundcloud you can’t stop doing it. This Philadelphia based duo describes themselves on their blog as the Philadelphia’s premier Bat Mitzvah and Quinceanera party band, we do not know if this can be possible, but what we do know is that this guys have a super future ahead of them full of success.

INTERVIEW WITH WORK DRUGS
written by THE GOLDEN SOUL CLUB. - How did you guys meet? - Ben and I met while attending sailing college in the Florida Keys. Ben brought his toy Casio keyboard and I brought an old beat up acoustic guitar for most of the trip. During downtimes, we would play Hall & Oates covers to entertain our classmates. - How did all start? - It all started when we realized that we were better song writers when we were working together. - At what point did Work Drugs really start to take shape? - In early 2011, we gained a little bit of traction with our song “Third Wave” to our surprise. A few months later our other song “Rad Racer” skyrocketed into the Top 5 on the hypemachine... and well from there, the wind has been at our backs. - Where did the name came from? - Hmmm... well there are a lot of stories out there about that, but I’ll leave it up to interpretation. - Tiga – the deejay – once twitted ‘Even if you don’t do drugs, I think it’s very important to have close friends and/or family that do’. What do you think about that? What is your relationship with drugs? - Whether it’s illicit drugs or more conventional ones like money or
food or caffeine.... it’s your choice. As long as you can balance it all and you’re happy doing what you’re passionate about... who am I to judge? - What inspires you in the composition of your lyrics? - Personally, most of my lyrics are inspired by stories from my youth. Lost loves, mornings on the Mediterranian, and nights cruising PCH. I feel like people have a universal connetion with these types of ideas. - Was there a particularly frustrating moment? - Oh there have been plenty... but we’ll save that for the “Behind the Music.” - Your videos circulating on the internet are very particular. Who produce them? Do you give the ideas? - Most of the videos are produced by either Ben or myself. In some cases we’ve had guest producers such as Cai from California for the “License to Drive” video and Karl Shoes for the “Ice Wharf” and “Boogie Lights” videos. We try to work with people who have a similar artist vision as ourselves. - How was it when Two Door Cinema Club invited you to support some of their shows during their U.S tour?
122
123
124
- It was amazing! We had only played a few shows before that tour and it was such a dream to play legendary venues like the Fillmore in San Francisco and the Showbox in Seattle. I think we won a few people over on that tour. - There is anywhere you would like to play live? - We would love to do a European or South American tour someday. It seems like we have a lot of people in those areas that would come out and see us play. - What are you currently listening to? - I’m currently really digging into a lot of Radio Dept. Spotify has opened me up to so many great bands that I only knew for one or two songs. - What do you think about Zoos? - Who doesn’t like the reptile areas? - What do you think about gay marriage? - It’s hard to believe it’s still a debate in the 21st century. - What’s the name of your favorite book, movie, and CD album? - Book - Less than Zero Movie - Groundhog Day CD- Kings of Convenience - Declaration of Dependence
