ONLY AROUND 16 PERCENT OF ABOUT 70,000 HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS pass the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) every year. However, not all of these “qualified UP students” would go on to enroll in the country’s national university. During the proclamation and turn-over ceremony for this year’s UP Diliman (UPD) University Student Council, UP President Alfredo Pascual said the no-show rate among UPCAT passers are “consistent” across all socio-economic groups. Recent data obtained by the Collegian from the UP Diliman (UPD) Office of the University Registrar (OUR) and Office of Scholarships and Student Services (OSSS), however, reveal what could be a more nuanced correlation between family income and the decision to enroll in the university.
