The dental specialist who completes an additional two to three years of training and board testing becomes a Diplomate of Endodontics and limits his or her practice to this specialty as an endodontist (en-doh-DON-tist). Many general dentists complete endodontic therapy in their practice but may refer difficult cases to the endodontic specialist. 236 Copyright 2012 Cengage Learning. All Rights Reserved.
