Message by Guest-of-Honour I would like to congratulate Punggol View Primary School on its Official Opening. This is a particularly auspicious occasion as this year also marks SG50 – 50 years of nationhood, 50 years of being a country. Over these 50 years, our education system has played an important role in the development of Singapore. We will not be where we are today if we did not have good schools in every part of Singapore, schools that aim to nurture the whole child, to help him realise his full potential, to be the best that he can be. Likewise, it is the aspiration of Punggol View Primary that each child who passes through its portal will become ‘A Shining Beacon’, illuminating not only his own life but also the lives of others in the community.
Guest-of-Honour:
Mr Hawazi Daipi Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Manpower
Indeed, Punggol View Primary aspires to deliver quality education and to develop its students holistically so that they become persons of character who are good and useful citizens of tomorrow. I commend the school’s goal and its approach to realising its aspiration through its Learning for Life Model, which provides its students with rich opportunities for learning both in the academic and co-curricular aspects of school life. To develop moral character in the students, it aims to instil values and develop its students’ social emotional competencies. In the process, the students will also build their knowledge and skills to become 21st century learners. The Learning for Life model is primarily designed to enrich the learning experiences of the students in Punggol View Primary so that their diverse needs and interests are met and their potential is fully realised. With its deep sense of purpose to make a real difference in the lives of its students and with a highly committed staff who seek to bring out the best in each child, I have full confidence that Punggol View Primary will fulfil its role as a good school. I wish Punggol View Primary every success in all its endeavours.

Message by Zonal Director Schools (East)
As learning places, schools strive to provide their students with meaningful experiences and opportunities to acquire strong values as well as the knowledge and skills that the students will need in the future. In line with this, Punggol View Primary School seeks to nurture the whole child through a values-based and holistic education in a caring and conducive environment. As the school believes that every student matters and that each one has his/ her unique strengths, it is committed to bringing out the best in its students and helping each one of them to fulfil his/her potential and to become a beacon that will illuminate and lead others.
Mrs Wendy Lim Zonal Director Schools (East) Schools Division Ministry of Education
In seeking to achieve its mission, Punggol View Primary offers a rich and robust curriculum. A distinguishing feature of its curriculum is its strong emphasis on inculcating in all its students the importance of becoming persons of character who strive to give of their best and who choose to do the right thing. The curriculum is delivered through a dedicated and nurturing staff who seek to make learning joyful and engaging, and who are well supported by the school’s Advisory Committee and various stakeholders, including parents and the community. Indeed, it does take a village to raise a child and Punggol View Primary has rightly embraced this belief and proactively translated it into action through the strong partnerships it has established. On this auspicious occasion of the school’s Official Opening, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Principal and staff, students and stakeholders of Punggol View Primary School. I am confident that Punggol View Primary will grow from strength to strength and I wish you every success in the journey ahead.

Message by Chairperson, School Advisory Committee Nice buildings alone do not make quality education. The key to quality education lies in the dedication of the school leaders and staff. I am pleased that Punggol View Primary has assembled a committed and dedicated team of staff who believes in and has high expectations of their students’ learning and development. I honour these teachers who tirelessly seek to inculcate in the students the right values and guide them to cultivate lifelong skills that will prepare them well for the challenges ahead. It is the Punggol View experience that nurtures its students to become persons of character who are good and useful citizens of tomorrow.
Mr Kenny Koh Chairperson School Advisory Committee Punggol View Primary School
10
As we mark the official opening of this new school, I am confident that the school leaders, staff and students of Punggol View Primary will continue to build a community who desires to learn continuously and contribute to the well-being of the society. On behalf of the School Advisory Committee, I would like to extend my congratulations to the whole family of Punggol View Primary on the school’s Official Opening.

The school’s Official Opening Ceremony marks a key milestone in the Punggol View story. As we create this narrative, we want to celebrate our past, build our present and prepare for our future. In Mar 2012, Mr Chua Chye Hock, then Vice-Principal-Designate, oversaw the construction of the school building as well as the promotion of publicity to the community. With 15 teachers and 7 EAS, we were privileged to be able to start the academic year in Jan 2013 with seven classes of Primary 1 students. The staff strength grew from 22 staff in Jan 2013 to 63 today. The pioneering spirit and determination has enabled us to build a Values-based, Holistic Education for our students. We have established good practices in Holistic Assessment and Programme for Active Learning (PAL) and have been invited by MOE to share with the other primary schools within our fraternity. We also hosted the MOE Kindergarten in 2014 and are now working to support the transition from pre-school to primary school.
Mr Kelvin Tay Principal Punggol View Primary School
By 2018, we would have six levels and we hope our students will grow to be the best that they can be, always striving to “Do the Right Thing” and “Give of their Best” for future education, employment and citizenship. As we commemorate our Official Opening, I would like to thank MOE, the School Advisory Committee, the Parent Support Group, staff, students, parents and the community for their support and contributions. May we continue to write and create the Punggol View story in the years to come.

Our Story…
Kelvin Tay Principal
In April 2012, Mr Kelvin Tay and Mr Chua Chye Hock were appointed Principal-Designate and Vice-Principal-Designate of Punggol View Primary School respectively. Both of them put their heads together to plan for our school. They envisioned a school which would bring out the best in every student according to his/her strengths, talents and abilities. They came up with the School Motto “Grow and Glow” which is our two-pronged aspiration that, as the school grows, it will glow in the community as a school of distinction. It also reflects our focus to grow our students’ moral, emotional, social, cognitive, aesthetic and physical domains to the full so that they will glow to become persons of character who are good and useful citizens of tomorrow. The pair also designed the school uniform and crest, and decided that the classes would be named after gemstones because our students are precious to us. The pioneer batch of teachers and EAS was at hand to welcome with open arms the first cohort of students in 2013. The school involved the pioneer group of staff in consultative sessions to draw up our school’s Vision, Mission and Values too.
Our Story...
Finally, after several versions and revisions, the team agreed on “Confident Learners, Active Citizens” as our Vision, and “Touching Lives, Inspiring Future” as our Mission, with the MOE’s student-centric, values-driven education as our helm and way forward. Together, they mapped out a rigorous and robust academic curriculum and co-curriculum underpinning holistic and creative learning. Anchored in the “Starfish Story”, our philosophy to education is to “Make a Difference” in the life of every child. We will continue to steadfastly uphold the culture of care and culture of learning to reach the goals we have set. Moving forward, we aim for our staff and students to grow from strength to strength, not just academically, but bonding as one family, drawing inspiration and wisdom from one another, and fully committed to and communicative in fulfilling our school’s Vision and Mission. Presently, we have nine P1 classes, seven P2 classes and six P3 classes. The MOE Kindergarten is also housed on our premises.

School Crest - What it means The Yellow stroke and the Blue circle form the letter “P” for Punggol. The Green stroke below forms the letter “V” for View. The green stroke represents growth. It appears as a hand supporting the child. This encapsulates our desire to build a caring culture. The Yellow stroke represents passion for learning. It appears as a fire; shining and casting light within and outside the school. This implies our desire of wanting to create a learning culture. The Blue circle represents holistic education - it depicts the school’s aspiration to provide a values-based, holistic education for all our students.

The school believes that sound values will be the students’ moral compass in the future and thus places the teaching and learning of values as our priority. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it also requires many hands and hearts to nurture our students to become good and useful people of our society. Through a carefully planned and integrated Character and Citizenship (CCE) curriculum comprising of CCE, Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP) and Social Studies lessons, the school strives to inculcate sound values in our students.

Staff Bonding In Punggol View, we strongly believe in working together just like one BIG family. Since our inception, we have engaged in several bonding sessions in and out of school. This helps to further strengthen our spirit of camaraderie and respect for one another. These bonding sessions allow us to understand one another better which in turn helps us build ties that bind. We love Punggol View!

Connecting with Parents We believe strongly in working closely with our parents to develop our students to their full potential. Parents partner us in many of our activities such as planning Teachers’ Day Concerts, International Friendship Day and act as chaperones during our Learning Journeys out of school. Apart from the usual communication channels like via email, telephone conversation and face to face chats, the school also meets up with parents thrice yearly on a formal basis during the 3-Directional Dialogue. During these sessions, our students demonstrate their learning to their parents and this allows parents to see their child grow and glow as confident learners.
