Message from Mrs Daphne Yeoh Principal Sengkang Green Primary School Every parent has hopes and dreams for their children. Every child, as he grows in understanding, has aspirations as to who he/she wants to be and do. Every educator must believe that each child can learn and has unique abilities and talents that can be developed. The school must create an environment that is conducive for learning to take place and for emerging talents to develop to their full potential. Since Sengkang Green Primary School opened its doors to its first cohort of Primary One pupils in January 2013, it has been guided by these beliefs and is committed to providing the environment and the programmes that would best bring out the potential in every child. “Dreams, Opportunities, Success” aptly summarises the positioning of the school and aligns to the school’s mission of “nurturing happy and healthy individuals with strength of character, ready to serve, ready for the future”. We focus on offering a rigorous curriculum that is experiential and customised to meet the different learning needs of the pupils. We provide a wide range of experiences that are fun and encourage pupils to discover about themselves and the world around them. The curriculum is broad-based, but at the same time, ensures pupils are grounded in the fundamentals. Guided by our talent development model and character development framework, our programmes aim to inculcate sound moral values and equip our pupils with 21st century competencies to meet the challenges of the future. Our staff has been key in delivering these experiences for effective learning. We have spent countless hours learning together in teams, designing programmes and implementing them. In the midst of doing that, we have grown into a closely-
knit Sengkang Green family with a caring and collaborative culture. In the spirit of pursuing excellence together, we are continuously innovating to improve. We are encouraged that our concerted effort has led to the school being recognised as a significant member of the community. Beginning with 150 pupils and 24 teaching and non-teaching staff in 2013, we have since grown in size and stature. We now have an enrolment of over 650 pupils with a staff strength of 58. Our pupils have also grown and made progress in every aspect of their development. Many have participated in national competitions in the areas of sports, dance, art, storytelling, etc. They have achieved commendable results in spite of their young age. Many have also served the community; helping to pack food items in food donation drives, planting trees to conserve the green environment and performing at charity events. We are proud of our pupils and are sure that they will continue to strive for excellence. As we celebrate the school’s official opening, we are mindful that this is only the beginning of our journey. There is much more that needs to be done and definitely many challenges to overcome. We are grateful for the unwavering support and encouragement we have received from the many individuals and organisations who have come along to help us to realise the vision and mission of the school. We want to thank our leaders and colleagues from the Ministry of Education, our School Advisory Committee, Parent Support Group, parent volunteers, our E3 cluster schools, our community leaders and other partners who have contributed to our growth since the school started. My staff and I look forward to working closely with all our stakeholders and partners to bring Sengkang Green Primary School to greater heights.

Our School Logo Inspired by the Tembusu tree, the school crest pictures a growing young tree which represents a growing child who is anchored in strong values, thriving in a fast-changing globalised world. The child, also represented by an open-book, is a life-long learner with a hunger for knowledge and excellence. The child is well-supported by parents and teachers, who form a strong partnership in providing an all-round education, balancing the development of character and abilities. The logo is presented in two distinct school colours of green and orange. Green represents learning and growth of our children. Orange represents vibrancy in our children who hold the key to the future of our nation.

Our School Uniform Our school uniform was conceptualised by then Principaldesignate, Mrs Daphne Yeoh. The design and colour was chosen for its simplicity, smartness and classic charm while keeping in mind the active lifestyle of the pupils and the hot and humid weather in Singapore.

NURTURING HEALTHY AND HAPPY INDIVIDUALS Dedicated to the mission of providing a quality and holistic education which nurtures the whole child, the school prides itself on its vibrant co-curriculum which emphasises on development of character in the pupils. With the key objective of developing competencies for the 21st Century, the co-curriculum prepares pupils for the uncertain future. Thoughtfully designed to provide opportunities for pupils to work in teams, to exercise leadership, and to take the initiative, these experiences make pupils more confident and happier, while providing the platforms for collaboration, critical and inventive thinking.

School Advisory Committee (SAC) Formed in July 2014 with two grassroots leaders ( Mr Peter Leow and Mr Josh Tay) and two parent representatives (Mr Ong Ken Lip and Ms Phyllis Yao), the SAC brings new perspectives and a wealth of experience about how external stakeholders think about school issues. The SAC helps to strengthen links between the school and its community as well as provide valuable support and opportunities to the staff and pupils.
Parent Support Group (PSG) The PSG evolved from a group of enthusiastic parent volunteers who actively helped out in school programmes when the school first started. The group was formalised in January 2014, with Mdm Judith Yew as its first chairperson. The PSG executive committee continues to garner the support of parents to provide assistance to teachers in various department programmes as well as school events. They have also organised family bonding activities and parenting talks to reach out to other parents and enrich the lives of families. PSG members have made use of their time and talents to enhance the learning of our pupils, thereby helping to realise the school vision of “a vibrant school” with a “culture of care”.
28
Community Partners The school collaborates actively with community partners like the National Library Board and NParks to enhance the learning of the pupils. We also participate actively in activities organised by the Sengkang West CCC where pupils learn to be concerned citizens and active contributors in the community. Community partners like the City Community Services, Fo Guang Shan and Pei Hwa Foundation Limited have supported needy pupils in the school through their generous giving of time and resources.

Community Outreach Sengkang Green Primary actively reaches out to its community by sharing its facilities with community partners, hosting kindergarten visits and organising Open House programmes. Our efforts have resulted in the school becoming a wellreceived member of the Sengkang West neighbourhood.

Overseas Visitors The school has received visitors from various parts of the world, including the UK, Hong Kong, Brunei and the People’s Republic of China. These visits have provided platforms for staff professional development and facilitating cultural exchange and collaboration among pupils.

BUILDING A QUALITY STAFF We believe that a quality staff is key in realising our vision and achieving the desired outcomes. This is reflected in one of the four main strategic thrusts of the school – Staff Excellence. We want to nurture a healthy and happy staff, create a culture of engagement and develop competent staff to deliver quality education to our pupils. In the pursuit of professional excellence, each and every Sengkang Green teacher is committed to “sharpening their saws” (Stephen Covey: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People). We provide opportunities for continuous learning, and promote a culture of engagement and professional development.
