ocal businessmen have been complaining for decades that problems of “nominee business” in tourism regions have caused severe damage to local business. And so far the public sector has not earnestly sought any strategy to solve them. The latest on the facebook of “KobkarnSuriyasatWattana vrangkul Official” of Mrs. Kobkarn Suriyasat Wattanavrangkul, the minister of Tourism and Sports, mentioned about the displacement of Chinese tourism nominee business made on the 16th of June 2016 to show that MOTS has paid serious attention to deal with the problems. It was discovered that foreigners have used fake ID-cards to operate their business in Phuket. The recent arrest accurately affirms that we have been on the correct path more than ever before. Entrepreneurs are a key reason that brings foreigners in the form of illegal nominee business into the country causing a detriment of Thailand’s tourism society. The methods implemented in their tour operation were low qualitative, generally known as “zero dollar tour” which really ruins the country’s image. The behaviors of these tour companies are often like owning a commercial outlet that sells low quality products at a high price, evading taxes, and employing foreign guides in their tour operation leading to unfair competition towards Thai tour agencies. From now on,the tourism act clause 17 will be exercised stringently. DoT has withdrawn all tourism licenses, and has coordinated with the embassy of the Republic of China to announce the with drawal throughout China. This is a warning to all parties related, to both the present tour operators and the new comers that a pretense of advance booking will be repudiated.
The Cost of Corru Really this story seemed to have gone into the clouds until the news in England broke about withholding items valued at 395 million baht from Mr. James McDormick who sold the GT 200 scam and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. As for Gary Bolton, the maker of the product who sold it abroad in areas such as the Middle East, Africa and Thailand, was sentenced with 7 years prison. Looking at the countries that purchased the GT 200, there must be a reason more than a lack of political leader judgment to why the select few countries purchased this product. Thailand concluded that the GT 200 is ineffective equipment in 2010. The Department of Special Investigations or DSI looked into the government corruption and reported to the B.B.S. The results showed that since the year 2014 there has been 1,398 GT 200 purchased at a value of 1.1 billion baht. This case must be split into two parts; the first is the DSI which is responsible is speeding the process of accusation on agency companies involved. The second part is the faculty involved in preventing and suppression of National Corruption (B.B.S) which are gathering necessary witnesses and evidence to accuse the correct government officials. Due to the government’s carelessness, they have suffered a great value of money. As for the DSI, all the results of their investigation have already been forwarded to the prosecutor. The prosecution of the government officials involved in this case regarding a massive financial loss is still to be followed up. But as for this buying and hiring situation in Thailand,

However, the majority of the purchases were at a price of 900,000 baht. According to the information gathered from England, each GT 200 is worth a capital of 20 dollars with a production cost of only 5 pounds which is equivalent to about 250 baht. But when sold in different countries, the GT 200 was set at a price of 10,000 pounds or 500,000 baht. That being said, of the 1.1 million baht spent, about half of this helped to gain knowledge. But the remaining amount of 559 million baht would be the price of “fraudulence” not a “Fool’s Cost” but a “Pretending Fool’s Cost” more so.
Mr. Ittirith Kinglake Department of Tourism (DoT) plans to carry out a favor from the Prime Minister designed to solve the “Zero Dollar Tour” problem. The plan starts with organizing a conference for the private sectors to form a working team to determine a tour price floor for law enforcement. Mr. Ittirith Kinglake, the President of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), announced that the government had confirmed the policy for solving zero dollar tour problems. The prime minister assigned DoT with a 3 month time frame to regulate tour agencies under the Tourism Business and Guide Act of 2008. In the past, the regulations under the act were not exercised thoroughly since no price floor imposed. Therefore, TCT has proposed to set up a subcommittee to determine the price floor. The chairman could be from either DoT or BTBG (Bureau of Tourism Business and Guide Registration) who will work together with relevant institutes and specialists of private sector in each
market. The Price floor will be based on the appropriate price listed in major tourism markets such as China, Russia, and Japan etc. The inspection will fall on aspects such as room rate and offseasoned tour fees which vary from one market to another. There are different markets with different room rates and in the current economic situation, a thorough consideration is required. “We have to admit that this matter may affect tourism business operation.Therefore, it is necessary to draw an appropriate line in order to obtain price acceptance from all parties.Once this is settled, it will be announced to the ministerial regulation for enforcement.”, Mr. Ittirith said.

นายอิทธิฤทธิ์ กิ่งเล็ก ประธานสภาอุตสาหกรรมท่องเที่ยวแห่ง ประเทศไทย (สทท.) เปิ ดเผยว่าตามที่นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้ วางกรอบเวลา 3 เดือน ให้ กรมการท่องเที่ยวเร่ งแก้ ปัญหา “ทัวร์ ศนู ย์เหรี ยญ” ให้ เป็ นไปตามกฎหมาย พ.ร.บ.ธุรกิจน�ำเที่ยวและมัคคุเทศก์ พ.ศ.2551อย่างไรก็ตามที่ผ่านมาไม่ได้ มี การน�ำเรื่องนี ้มาปฏิบตั หิ รือบังคับใช้ เนือ่ งจากยังไม่มกี ารก�ำหนดราคามาตรฐาน ค่าบริการน�ำเทีย่ วขันต� ้ ำ่ ไว้ สทท.จึงเสนอต่อกรมการท่องเทีย่ วว่าควรจะมีการจัด ตังคณะอนุ ้ กรรมการตังราคามาตรฐานขั ้ นต� ้ ่ำมาพิจารณาเรื่ องนี ้ โดยการก�ำหนดราคาทัวร์ มาตรฐานราคาขันต� ้ ำ่ จะก�ำหนดความ เหมาะสมของราคาใน 5-6 ตลาดท่องเที่ยวหลัก ๆ ได้ แก่ จีน รัสเซีย เกาหลี ญี่ปนุ่ โดยค�ำนึงถึงราคาห้ องพัก ราคาทัวร์ นอกโปรแกรมหรือ “ออพชันทัวร์ ” ควรเป็ นเท่า ไหร่ แต่ละตลาดราคาจะไม่เท่ากัน ต้ องพิจารณาให้ รอบด้ าน เพื่อให้ เกิดเกณฑ์ ราคาที่ทกุ ฝ่ ายยอมรับได้ เพราะต่อไปก็ต้องมีการประกาศในกฎกระทรวง เพื่อ บังคับใช้ ทางกฎหมายต่อไป”นายอิทธิฤทธิ์ กล่าว.

It will be the 4th time held in Phuket from May 2-10, 2017. In this event, there will be at least 450 participants from both consumers and suppliers, i.e. wedding planners/ organizers, hotels, and tour companies etc. The organizing team saw that Thailand is fully capable of holding such a splendid event as it is generally famous among tourists worldwide. Moreover, for wedding couples, Thailand was ranked the 1st destination in Asia and Africa and the 6th in Europe. “The organizer will consider the promptness of being a world class wedding destination by following criteria such assupply of goods and services, elegant scenery decorating, catering, light & sound systems, impressive service operations, and organizational skills. The main reason for selecting Thailand ashost this year, besides its readiness, is that Thailand is one of the world’s top destinations for tourists and wedding couples.” The governor also mentioned that wedding couples were tourists classified in a qualitative group with the expenditure of 5-20 million baht at a time. While market value of weddings rose up to 298,000 million US dollars per year with 80,000 million dollars of that spent outside the country. Thailand became the most popular destination for wedding couples from India,
holding 400 wedding parties per year, with some others from Hong Kong. All operation systems must meet the highest standard AOT delays the grand opening of the new international terminalat Phuket airport until this September for a thorough examination to create full assurance. Mr.Nitinai Sirismatthakarn , th ePresident of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), disclosed that the work under the development plan of Phuket airport phase II for the new international terminal remained incomplete. When complete, it would enable service of 12.5 million passengers compared to the previous 6.5 million. It was necessary to postpone the openingdatethat was initially scheduled on 1st June because of a full systems examination had not yet been completed. The tests were recently run on the first technical flight only. After testing, it appeared that the amendment was needed in order to obtain the highest standard requirement. “As this is the opening of a new terminal, the operation must be completely qualitative to the standard of safety.” M o r e o v e r, A O T h a s b e e n preparing to expand their investment in phase III for the increase of services for up to 18 million passengers per year and that will be the maximum level of development. AOT has proceeded to buy a piece of land nearby of about 50 rai (80,000 sq.m.) from the National Housing Authority, partially to build lodgings for personnel, and the rest for apron expansion. According to Phuket airport’s main plan, the project is currently being studied in detail and later will be submitted to AOT’s board for consideration. “The Traffic issue between the airport and other parts of the city was one of our major concerns and we learned that the state sector also is considering a monorail as a traffic solution,”Mr. Nitinai added. Meanwhile, Mrs. Monrudee Gettuphan, General Manager of Phuket International Airport, mentioned that according to the latest time frame, the grand opening of the new international terminal will possibly be held this September. Phuket airport to operations currently consist of 53 international airlines; 37 as regular operators and 16 as aircraft charters. All airlines were informed to move their offices into the new building within the month of June to allow for the unofficial test run to take place by mid-August. The commercial space inside the terminal will be managed and ready as planned by King’s Power Plc. who won the bidding for the space. “It is necessary to speed up
the work completion in order to meet the deadlines, however with such a huge space of 720,000 sq.m, the system testing for accurate operation is also a must. In the year of 2016 the number of passengers should be more than 13 million and the flight growth should fall between 11-12%, carrying both in-bound & out-bound routes and more than 270 flights per day. This figure already exceeds the present planned capacity of the airport to contain 12.5 million passengers.” said Mrs.Monrudee.

International Film Shooting Location in Asia The international film production industry has widely been relevant in Thailand’s tourism industry. It not only draws foreign currencies into the country, but also provides an effective outlet to display the beautiful scenery of Thailand to the world. In 2015, there were about 724 movies filmed in various locations all over the kingdom. Of these, a national revenue of 3.164 billion baht was generated. The main factors in Thailand’s popularity in the international film shooting industry were uniqueness, beauty of location, efficiency of facilities and local production team, and confidence of film makers towards Thailand’s potential. Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavarangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sport, declared that the tourism department, being responsible for international film production business in the kingdom, had arranged the 4th festival - Thailand International Film Destination Festival 2016 (TIFDF 2016) during 4-13th July 2016. “This year it will be held under a theme of “Best Vision Best Destination”. Miss Daonoi Suttiniphapunt, the TTM Managing Director of the Ministry of Finance disclosed that TTM has recently raised a budget of 10 million baht for rewarding state officers who enforce the suppression of illegal cigarettes. From February – May 2016, the officers arrested 30 cases of underground trading, with a total of 561,000 packages seized. 3.3 million baht worth of reward was granted for this accomplishment, while 6.6 million baht remains for the next 4 months’ to come. Regardless, TTM is still ready to grant a top-up reward and is also considering a reward granting period extension. Illegal cigarettes from abroad have multiplied due to the recent tobacco tax increase initiated last February. Mr.Kong Jong Cheng, the Director General of the Department of Consular Affairs, strongly said that Thailand is the first country in the implementation of the visa waiver inwhich the Philippines and Indonesia would follow. They saw Thailand was ready, but they still need to continue to discuss and agree on the terms together. Right now Taiwanese can obtain a visa at the channel's license Immigration checkpoint (Visa on Arrival), commonly referred to asavisa outpost. Taiwan expects to be able to find a better procedure. In 2015, Taiwan has succeeded in attracting foreign visitors with a record of foreigners traveling ofmore than 10 million. Taiwan has been receiving foreign tourists at an annual increase of 1 million since 2008. Tourism Profits Taken for too Long Though it’s been known that a highly toured province like Phuket would have a considerable amount of illegal touring companies, the profits of these business that are unlawfully taken away from the locals is not always considered as much. And now it has been over 10 years of businesses using the nominee strategy to steal local rights. Most recently, talk has been heard of the Phuket police force joining with various government divisions to begin a thorough look into illegal businesses by foreigners and particularly the Chinese. On June 15th, 2016 this process was initialized by investigating the business documents of Tranlee Travel Company due to suspicion of Nominee acts. “From observation of previous business examination we have found 17 companies under Tranlee have foreign owners by using two fake Thai Citizenship I.D cards to gain 51% ownership of the company. Most cases have been found in resorts or travel agencies that have been around more than 10 years.” Mr. SamahnChainarong said Now the officials involved in carrying out the removal of nominee business has increased due to the strict command from the top, that is the Prime Minister, Mr. SriwaraRangsiprahomanagun. Also, the Association of Money Laundering Prevention and other government organizations have become involved in the suppression of this criminal activity. After more thorough evaluation and examination it is suspected that there are other forms of organized crime using the nominee strategy as well. The government has already begun revoking various documents found in businesses such as these. Looking again at the Tranlee Travel case, further investigation into their company rights and registration documents is underway. Also tourist police have already initialized a strategy for suppressing their work at Pier 3 Patong. This includes seizing their business property such as 117 travel buses and cars and 35 boats. Also, of the 17 branch companies of Tranlee, hotel rooms at these branches that are over the requested limit will also be closed adding up to hundreds of millions of baht in seized property. Of that number, the percentile of Chinese was around 26.55%, the largest percentile of any nationality by far. Therefore, the growth of the tourism industry has been most greatly impacted by the Chinese. This fact helps us to recognize the true importance of stringently carrying out the removal of “Nominee Business” to improve the tourism industry’s impact on Thailand’s economy.

The Town of Excellent Service
At the end of last month was a lot of traveling, with both private work and corporate business. But first I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and congratulated me by phone or social media. The head office chairman appointed me as Governmental Human Resource and Economic Examination Advisor for Phuket province. For me, when I am entrusted to a duty, I believe I should be committed to always fulfill that responsibility with knowledge, competence and strength. As for our home here at Patong, like I’ve said “In Patong, both beach and entertainment must go hand in hand.” Like in the past no one set the two apart, both the popular beach and entertainment have together built up Patong’s name for the past 40 years, and I’m certain it’s not yet the end either. Patong can still grow many times bigger than this! However, that means we have to fix different construction issues. A few examples are taxi transportation, flooding, land development, Illegal nominee businesses. These various issues are beginning to clear up as a more thorough plan builds. Simply put, the more the government sees the importance of these issues, the quicker they will be solved. At the same time, on the other side, it’s time that Patong builds a clear strategy that quickly directs their efforts to a common goal. A center that is goal focused and continually pushing to raise its standards by encouraging work quality examination by the government. I believe we can succeed, and succeed quickly if everyone puts in their part. Another thing that must become more extensive is the “Language Training Centers” for tourism. Whether its English, Chinese, Korean, Russian, French, Italian or any language, if there are locals interested in learning, it is the local governments responsibility to make it possible. Also, business managers need to consider the importance of training for their employees. Because this is an ideal benefit for every department! “Wonder if every business in Patong took one day a week to focus on occupational or language training in order to continuously improve their business’s current state.” I see it as totally worth it! Phuket Airport Sea Runway Extension at the Cost of Environmental Destruction Mr. Aumsin Chiwapruk, the leader of the Ministry of Transport, introduced a project to extend the runway out into the sea at Phuket International airport in order to increase the potential of the airfield. You can be certain that Phuket government is considering fully funding this endeavor. This story has quickly become a hot topic that must be thought out carefully. On one side, this will greatly increase the potential of the airport to help the tourism industry, however, the impact this project will have on the environment must also be carefully considered as well. Mr. Aumsin Chiwapruk also added that this runway extension project is not a new idea and has actually been considered for a long time now. However, has never been fully agreed upon due to its impact the tidal water flow. An alternative option has been to build a new airport in Phang Nga that would have the field space possible to build a 4 Km long runway that could land the larger planes. The Phuket airport runway is only about 3 Km long, which is insufficient to land larger planes at full occupancy. “Due to the expansion of Phuket airport with an ever increasing amount of flights and the limitation the short runway causes, the project to extend the runway has once again been brought to the governments attention.” Many countries these days have completed a runway extension into the sea such as in the Middle East and in Macau Hong Kong. This encourages Phuket to see this project as a more possible option, but it must still be pushed for and favored by the majority in order to make it happen says Mr. Aumsin Chiwapruk. Mr. Jamrern Tipanapongthada, the Governor of Phuket stated that it all depends on the opinion of the Phuket people. Also as time goes on changes may cause an

Dr. Thon Thamrongnawasawat, an Marine Science scholar from Kasetsart University posted on facebook a satellite photo of Maikao beach in Thalang, Phuket, the title read “Looking at this photo you can see clearly what would happen if we extended the runway a kilometer into the sea.” In the photo you can see a coral reef (yellow line) is located only a few hundred meters out and would be undoubtedly affected by the runway extension. On top of that, the flow of the tide would be drastically changed as well. There are still even more consequences, as the shoreline at Mai Kao is a breeding grounds for turtles and other wildlife. The effects towards the areas environment are completely unavoidable if the runways extension is built into the sea. Certainly there must be a better solution, even if it may be more difficult, it will be worth saving an environmental catastrophe. “This is not to prevent growth, but to support growth that comes with “sustainability”, that is the

The mainstream sees Burmese workers as too demanding and are concerned about the loss of job opportunity for Thai people. Because of this, the Ministry of Labor announced to the media that migrant labor by Burmese, Lao and Cambodians would be allowed for only two job titles; manual labor under 24 types of business and housekeeping jobs. Therefore, independent work or self-owned business such as selling products and food or drinks, regardless of location, is all prohibited for migrant workers. Migrant work in the entrepreneur and small business market creates higher business competition among the local Thais. In addition, migrant’s illegal work activities negatively impact the Thai society in ways such as crime, drug addiction and human trafficking. Needless to say, the potential impact of illegal migrant worktoward the nation’s stability has created stricter regulations. As for those who support the use of migrant work such as homeowners and landlords intending to provide foreigners with disclosed housing, their activities are also wrong. These acts oppose immigration laws that will be enforced towards both the worker and the employer. Therefore, migrant work that has not received prior permission is considered a federal offence. In such case, the worker would be charged with no more than 5 years in prison or a bail of 2,000 – 100,000 baht. Also, the employer who hires a migrant worker without prior permission would be charged from 10,000 – 100,000 baht per each migrant worker hired.

As a famous filmmaker, and idol for many young people who want to enter the film industry, what do you think of this event? I feel proud and overwhelmed every time I come to this kind of event. It helpscultivate a new generation of learning that thinks more diversely. Especially for young people who are interested in making movies or clips. Nowadays, the world of social media is changing very fast.With new technology, you can make long movies, short films, video clips or any kind of media using onlya smartphone. Therefore, technology is truly a big part ofthe new generation’s activities. What do you think of the young kids’ work in this event? Their work kind of surprised to me. Last year, I attended this event for the first time and was impressed. This year I got to meet with high school kids,and just knowing that the kids at this age wanted to do a movie made me feel great. But when I saw their work, I waseven more surprised by their potential.The work ofnot just one person, but several teams as well performed well. If these young people can use the knowledge they received from this training to make a film about the story of Phuket, which is much more interesting as a short film or video clip posted on the Internet, it will promote tourism in Phuket very well. It depends on whatwill catch someone’s eye... It is our own creativity that determines just how farwestand out. In our country, we lack "creativity" in every profession. If we do not support the next generation and their great ideas, we will not be able to compete with other countries and will always be a follower." How do you see the future of Phuket as a movie location? For movie locations, I personally see "Phuket" as second to
city. Therefore, not only foreign film want to shoot here but also the film companiesin Bangkok as well. In the future, what movie genre would you like to do? People might know me as an action filmmaker, but in the future, I prefer to do something more diverse. The story was also made into a country music film, love story or horror, films that reflect the society. I want to try something new in my life. Are there some films that you will use Phuket as a location in? Of course, yes. Recently, a Chinese movie crew contacted me and wanted me to be the director for their movie. From the script, it was a story about the ocean. If nothing changes, I will use a location in Phuket. Where are your favorite locations in Phuket? I love the old town atmosphere, which impresses me every time. I also love the Phuket seas. Perhaps the color of the water here does not need added graphics or color compared to other places I’ve been to. I have never been disappointed here. I personally have to thank the Phuket people who protect these things very well. And I believe people around the world think the same.

Giving nature some rest The number of tourist at the national park on Phi Phi Island in a 9 month time period is more than 1.3 million people. This number is more than both Khao Yai and Doi Inthanon, and is the most of anywhere in Thailand. What should we do about this? Many people have mentioned limiting the amount of water excursions including trips to Phi Phi. I would like to ask some of Dr. Thon’s friends as well. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in Australia is the largest national sea reserve in the world covering 344,000 square kilometers with 3,000 coral reef spots, 1000 islands and 2.4 million tourists per a year. Phi Phi Island’s reserve covers 380 square kilometers with 10 islands and 20 coral reef spots. In comparison to the GBRMPA, Phi Phi is far smaller and yet in only 9 months has 1.3 million tourists and undoubtedly no less than 1.6 million in a year. Phi Phi’s numbers mentioned above are only that of those who paid the entrance fee at the reserve on Phi Phi Island. There are still many more that go to Phi Phi with landing or paying the entrance fee. If we consider capacity control, we have to look at whether the current capacity is beyond control or not. The answer is yes, in fact, the amount has been way over since before we even started talking about capacity.
Boats that have requested permission to enter the Phi Phi reserve is currently at 1,550, and several hundred more are still waiting since the reserve has stopped giving permission. This number is greater than that of the GBRMPA as well, due to the majority being small boats. The question is, if we enforce capacity control regulations that limit the number of tourist to 300,000 and boats to 400, what will we do with all the extra boats? Create a drawing? First come first serve? If a large company owns 200 boats and gets permits first, how will the small businesses compete? Capacity control can work, but it must be planned in advance. If the number has not yet reached the capacity limit it will work, but what about when the number is already 5 or 6 times the capacity limit? “Why not handle this in advance?”some tourist will ask. I can’t give an absolute answer because just at the end of last year Phi Phi Island Reserve just started a new model standard. When I hear tourist complaining about the management, I just smile and welcome them, but inside I want to scream! You have 3,000 coral reef spots with 2.4 million tourists, I have 20 coral reef spots with 1.6 million tourists. You can handle your tourism however you wish since you don’t even use 10% of your locations. As for me, try to tell me to limit the capacity! I bet that Thailand’s island and coral reef tours are some of the busiest in the world. Therefore, other country’s management strategies don’t always work here; it is a different world
here. As we continue to try to push new goals for the tourist, the sea and island continue to take the burden so much that the islands about to sink! Management like this takes good planning to find a solution not just close down everything and go bankrupt. We need to talk with the locals, and take it on step by step. We need to let them know that we are serious, that this isn’t just talk. Thais are getting tired of this sort of behavior. “The Phi Phi Model”is moving forward because our actions are not just talk. We are going to start doing things that were never thought possible. “Open-Close Maya Bay” doesn’t mean a permanent closing, but rather a periodic closing according to the appropriate seasons. The closing periods will provide alternative options for tourist to visit during those times. If it was somewhere else it wouldn’t be a problem, but this is “Maya Bay” the most toured coral reef in Thailand. Rest assured,there will be more details to come. As I mentioned to “Dr. Thon’s friends”, we are aimed towards that goal, though it will be difficult, when we see the stampedes roll in we are reminded that we don’t act Phi Phi will surely be lost!

Aiming to Become a World Heritage Site Malay Peninsula, the meeting point of the cultural breezes from both the East and West… History tells us that in the 16 century people from the west such as China and India had immigrated to the Malay Peninsula and Strait of Malacca. Therefore, there has been a cultural influence through their ways of living such as language, costume, culture, and architecture over this region including Phuket, Takuapa, and Trang provinces. “Chinese craftsmen had takena blueprint for construction, but the architecture had been slightly different because they added some decorations or changed some parts of the workbased on their faith. From there began the mixture of Portuguese and Chinese architectures which became the identity of the Peninsula’s society among 3 nations – Portugal, China, and Malaysia.”

There is similar colonial period architecture in Singapore and Malaysia, but people call it “shop house” or commercial building. Prof. Siwapongse Thongjeer, the specialist of Urban Architecture, at Phuket Rajabhat University, was the one who gave the definition of “Sino-Portuguese” as mentioned above. A Legend of“Abundant Tin” Attracting a Stream of Chinese People
“Chinese art will appear inpatterns crafted on outside walls, on ground floor doors and windows,in a design of calabash, typical cave, cloud, and flower etc. While European imagery, mainly influenced by the Portuguese with a mixture of English and Dutch, displays in a form of building structure i.e. arch corridor, upper window, and pinnacle of pole etc.”
In the 18th and 19th century, the period of industry revolution in the west, “Trade of Tin” was growing widely as “tin” was the primary raw material used for preventing rust in iron which was amajor raw material required in the industrial era. The southern part of the island, the area called “TungKha”, was rich with tin which urged Luang Pitak Taweep, the governor at that time, to move a town from “Ban Ket-Ho”to “TungKha” area which formed the western region that is now known as “Phuket Region” by Praya Rassadanupradit Mahitsornpakdee or “KhawSim Bee Na Ranong”. This gentleman was a high commissioner, bringing civilization to many towns in the southern part of Thailand. He had encountered the work of urban landmarks as well as the structure of shop houses which are still left up till today.

Later, Dutch and English people entered and became an influence in the region. They modified the structure of buildings according to their own manuscript and faith. Yet the structure was still called “the architecture of Sino-Portuguese” which meant the mixture of Chinese and Portuguese.
There were 3 rounds per year receiving Chinese migrants from “Ei-Ming Town” to the island which caused the increase of Chinese in Phuket. The Chinese did not come only for mining but also trading which has brought civilization to Phuket until now. A Breeze of Change, the Arrival of “Tourism” As time has passed by, a breeze of change has blown “Phuket” into a tourism era. The booming Tin-Trading era became history; however the shop houses in this area are yet to become desolate. The inhabitants have been living and inheriting generation after generation. Until the tourists from both local and abroad stumbled in the charm of its beauty. The owners, one by one, began to change their houses to restaurants, coffee shops, guest houses, souvenir shops, and art galleries for receiving tourism business. Because the local people have beenfirmly preserving the old style of arts, this commercial zone is still able to maintain its old beauty and classiness. Phuket Metropolitan, together with public and private enterprises,being well aware of these values, have formed an alliance for reviving
and developing the old town in order to preserve its environment and arts to reveal Phuket’s identity. By doing so, there have been many projects and activities brought up such as underground electrical lines, old house renovations, “Lard YaiRoad” Sunday fair, Baba wedding, and many more. Thalang Road – Soi Rommanee “Thalang Road” is in the central part of Phuket old town. It was a site of old buildings in Sino-Portuguese style which are a statement of Phuket art. This could encourage a classical mood of the past. Nowadays, even some buildings have become more colorful to chase popular trend and new life-style, some were changed to be coffee shops, souvenir shops, guest houses, but the change did not affect its old architecture at all. Looking closely, the diversity has kept this area more lively and charming all the more. for its beauty and being one of the most romantic places in town.Therefore, it’s no surprise that it will be another classical spot for a notable memory.

UNESCO. “Thalang Road – Soi Rommanee” could have been the beginning of the “World Heritage Project”. It is necessary to implement urban consciousness so that the inhabitants can see the importance and join.Who knows, in the future to come these ancient buildings could be registered as the first world heritage sites of Thailand.
Especially since its history in the abundant mining age had been a small lane full of wonderful night-life activities. Mafia Lords, “TuaKo” (eldest brother), “Yee Ko” (second elder brother), would take their followers to enjoy night life there after receiving their pay. The picture of busy activities on this lane would not be much different from what we saw in the scenes of the Shanghai God Father movie and that is the origin of the name “Soi Rommanee” until today.
The Journey to World Heritage The case of success that “UNESCO hadannounced Phuket to be the City of Gastronomy 2015” among one of the 18 cities around the world and the first city of Thailand and ASEAN, had become a prime encouragement to all relative sectors to aim even farther with bigger visionto lead Phuket to be listed as the world heritage site under UNESCO’s recognition. The old “Malacca” of Malaysia and “Temple of Preah Vihear” of Cambodia had been registered under the cultural heritage 2008, followed closely by “Penang” in 2010. While “Hoi-An” of Vietnam registered since 1999 is now enjoying the revenue from tourists. Thailand has many sites counted as natural and historical heritage but is still short of unseen ancient community. If we look at “Sam Chook Market in Supanburi”, we have to admit that Phuket is more capable and compliant to the regulations specified by

Oil Painting in Old Town Phuket The Old Town Phuket village is known for its historical and economic value to the tourism industry, but its classic architecture style called “Sino-Portuguese” is what drives its unique local artistic feel. Whether Thai or foreigner, old town is no doubt an attraction that is appealing to all. “Professor Nui” WatcharinYodnit, the president of the Artist Assembly in Phuket 2011, is someone who has fallen to the charm of Old Town Phuket. Though it may seem the “SinoPortuguese” style architecture of each building is the same, they are in fact all different. This points toward the diversity of the style that represents multiple nationalities differences in values and culture. “Conserving the story of this area can be done in many ways. Some people write, others take pictures, but as for I have decided to paint the story’s value and traditional culture. The Sailboat Race Week at Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Emphasizes “Phuket” as the Regatta Pub
Dr. ChawaniTongrot, as the deputy chairman of the Department of Sports and Tourism was the main announcer for the Sailboat Competition along with a team of coordinators to help host the event at Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket.

igniting the thrill in phuket by toyota motorsport 2016

oyota Motorsport 2016 sets up a track at SaphanHin, Phuket to host a race among the local Phuket viewers who wish to come and cheer. Besides the competition, this year Toyota brought other activities such as a car show to display the ability of various car models and famous drivers. Drivers such as Kwang (AB Normal), Sunny (Nipaporn Thititonagan), Natali David Tern (Tonpon Nimthaisuk) and even DJ De or Davide Dorigo from the hot radio station Seed 97.5 were all apart of hosting a cheer contest for students from various institutions. Mr. Wutigorn Suriyachantananon, the head event manager for Thailand Toyota Motorsport Company Ltd. stated that besides boosting Phuket’s economy, this event is also meant to educate and give our youth a correct understanding of motorsport racing. AFC Confirms King Fahad Stadium “Thai vs. Saudi Arabia” Preliminaries Thailand Football Association revealed that the Asian Football Conference has confirmed both the first and second games for the world football tournament in 2018, the 3rd round preliminaries of the Asian conference (the final 12 teams). The first game will be Saudia Arabia verses Thailand at King Fahad International Stadium in Riyadh City on September 1st 2016 at 8:30pm (local time) or 12:30am Thai time. The second game will be Thailand verses Japan on September 6th 2016 at Rachamangkla Stadium at 7:15pm. “Royal Gems” partners with Rayaburi Group in the Phuket FC with “Big Noi”Cheif Tanattap Ajarnyut as coach. Big Noi previously played for the Thai national team and is ready to push this new team forward towards regaining its greatness as well as the support of the Phuket people. In the conference room at Royal Gems Pavilion Ltd., Thalang in Phuket, Mr. Chatchai Rotrungrangsi, the committee coordinator met with Mr. PitipornNukunpanitwipat, the head of the executive committee of Rayaburi Group to confirm and announce their partnership as Royal Raya Sport Ltd. to create the new Phuket FC football club with original investors in the second half of the 2016 season. Both sides have the same focus to push the level of football competition in Phuket while developing the potential of “Andaman Dragons” to reclaim its reputation for the Phuket people. Their hopes are to be a part of the building the heart and faith of Phuket on the principle of inner beauty outwardly expressed.
