Loving Our Patong “The Model” Necessary

D

uring mid-September last month, the business owners in the private sector led by Pisona Group hosted the event “Bangla 24 Hour Clean Project”.

This event was used to portray a positive response to the Patong Bomb incidents. The private sector pushed for unity in bringing back assurance for the locals of Patong by cleaning and picking up trash on Bangla Road.

However, bringing back assurance of safety for locals doesn’t end just there.

The private sector and the Department of State contributed to the installation of CCTV surveillance cameras on Bangla Road in Patong. This project named “Unifying Citizen Awareness” has been integrated to bring back happiness and stability to the Patong locals.

“As a start, there were 10 high quality CCTV surveillance cameras with video clarity at 300 meters distance and a 360 degree axis viewing scale monitored and operated 24/7. These cameras are were designed and installed to help police spot terrorist suspects and bring assurance of safety to the locals.”

At the same time, further promoting of personal surveillance cameras for locals is necessary as well.

Currently, the number of private property surveillance cameras is still lesson than 1,000 in Patong.

“Phuket Times” admires and values the citizen’s conscience to seek the common good for everyone’s livelihood. The Patong people continue to step forward practically and creatively with an understanding of the importance of their part in society.

Improving the efficiency of the CCTV cameras is something the government is able to manage with a budget, but the power of unity that comes from the participation of the locals is something that can never been bought.

This let alone is a recipe for success!!

It’s clear that this principle is necessary to make a “Prime Model” for businesses as well, whether it be here in Phuket, throughout Thailand or even the world.

New International Terminal Building Grand Opening

he Airports of Thailand Company (AOT) hosts the official grand opening of the new international terminal building with the honor of General Prayut Chan-ocha, the Prime Minister of Thailand as the guest speaker. This building is a part of the Phuket Airport Development Project (2010-2014 budgets) created with the goal to increase the total airport passenger capacity and ultimately improve the convenience and potential of the airports services.

The New Highway “Saku-Ko Kaew”

he Department of Highway Transportation has concluded plans for the construction of a highway from Saku to Ko Kaew ranging 22 km long and 80 meters wide with 12 lanes including a bike lane as well. The plans have been set for completion in 2022.

After the original survey and design consulting was complete, it was concluded that the development would still need another 6 lanes added to the original 4 with 2 more lanes for bicycles. The highway would start near the Thalang Technical College and finished about 700 meters from the underpass in Ko Kaew.

Mr. Tanusak Puengraeng have confirmed a 100 billion baht investment to support the “Green Phuket Transportation Infrastructure”. The first phase investment is 1 million baht while the supporters have already accumulated over 20 million baht.

Mr. Tanusak Puengraeng, the President of the Phuket Real Estate Association, is one of the Founders of the Smart Growth Company and has been a key leader in raising funds for the new infrastructure plans. The goal of Smart Growth is to create both a more comfortable and tourist pleasing Phuket by using innovative technology to decrease air pollution caused by transportation. All of which must be affectively and efficiently undergone to satisfy both locals and tourists alike.

Mr. Kan Prachumpan, the Director of “The Beach Group” and his team of real estate developers have also taken part in Smart Growth as supporters. They will handle the private sector side of fundraising public activities and events that will benefit Phuket as a whole.

To start, there will be a push for the use of a main mass transit line (light rail) and a secondary one by public bus (6 bus routes) that Phuket has much potential for.

In conclusion, Smart Growth has been headed up by 6 different founders and will be supported and undergone by multiple groups from the private sector.

The founders include Mr. Kan Prachumpan, Mr. Wat Jaruriyan, Mr. Roitopumisak Hongyok, Tanusak Puengrang, Mr. Matapong Upatisalong and Mr. Bun Yongsagun. The amount invested will start out with 1 million baht from each founder while their teams will continue to carry out the necessary procedures.

“At the investor’s banquet for Smart Growth at Roof Top Restaurant in Pearl Phuket Resort, there were both early and new generation business people who pushed the funding pass 20 million baht. This gave us even more assurance that we can in fact make it to 100 million baht and soon.

At the police box on Bangla Rd, Mr. Preechavute Keesin, the Network Administrator at Pisona Group Company, has been the main coordinator between the private sectors and companies such as the CCTV Patong Company, Triple T Broadband Company and government departments.

Mr. Sayan Chanachaiwong, the Katu District Prefect, Chief Chaiwat Ueykam, the Chief of Police at Katu Police Station, the Patong Municipality and Entertainment Business Operations have joined together to install CCTV surveillance cameras at different spots along Bangla Rd. to prevent terrorism and criminal activities and improve safety for both tourists and businesses alike.

Mr. Preechavude Keesin, the Network Administrator of Pisona Group Company, stated that “this project has been made possible by funding;both entertainment and hotel business groups have helped to install 10 high quality surveillance cameras.

These cameras are high resolution and most importantly Wi-Fi accessible by police and certain officials. Besides that, funding from Thai Beverage Company Inc. helped to cover the monthly maintenance costs for the cameras.”

Chief Chaiwat Ueykam, the Chief of Police at Katu Police Station stated that “Want to give a big thanks to everyone who has helped be eyes and ears for both the police and government departments. It started with the “Patong 24hr Clean Project” and most recently the “Unifying Citizen Awareness Project” to install CCTV surveillance cameras throughout Patong. The camera installation budget has been set to place 120 cameras on government grounds and a little more 100 on private grounds. Right now, the issue with current surveillance cameras is both their quality and location.

Cameras in Patong near the sea will encounter greater wear. Therefore the cameras chosen must be suitable for their surroundings. Also, the cameras must be placed at the best angles for recording suspicious and terrorism activities.

Phuket Steps Forward to “Smart City” in 2020

ost people probably already know that both “Phuket and Chiang Mai” were the first two provinces that the government set to be “Smart Cities”.

But what is “Smart City”?

For a clear answer, “Pracha Asawatira”, the manager of the National Software Promotion Industry Offices (Public Organization) or SIPA the Offices of the Southern Region Phuket will explain.

“Pracha” said that “Smart City” is an overall upgrading of a city’s livability.

As for Phuket, this means implementing improvments in four areas as follows; 1. Safety 2.Economic Growth 3.Health 4.Environment.

As for carrying out the project “Phuket Smart City”, it will be divided into 3 parts: 1.

Smart Economy: Phuket’s industries must support and develop the economy. Currently, Phuket’s economy is driven by only one industry which is tourism. Implementing both digital and technological industries to coincide with the tourist industry will greatly boost and strengthen Phuket’s overall economy. In order to carry out this strategy for “Smart Economy”, Phuket must implement and excel in two particular areas: Resource developers involving either a “Research Center” or “Innovation Center” Promote the use of “Smart Technology” in the tourism industry more and more.

2. Smart Living Community: Creating a livable society in two parts: -“Phuket Safe Smart City” (Land): Efforts towards improving safety through the integration and upgraded efficiency of public CCTV surveillance cameras.

Currently, Phuket already has roughly 1,700 cameras. However, the issue is the accessibility and efficiency in networking the recorded film. Therefore the concept “smart living” has been set to improve the efficiency of data analysis and accessibility.

-“Phuket Safe Smart City” (Water): Efforts towards improving safety for all activities at sea. Currently, there is a

system set in place for keeping an inquiry of all ships or sea vessels at sea at a given time. Most recently, plans to integrate an additional system called “Smart Band” are underway. This system will require tourists to wear a wrist band when boarding in order to accurately record the number passengers. Currently an evaluation of the affects towards tourist’s privacy is being undergone.

3.“Smart Sensor” is a new design of weather analysis and prediction technology that highly accurate and can be adjusted for

water quality testing as well. Through water quality testing, both chemical and bacterial data can be recorded and examined for any abnormalities to present solutions before the real problem has even occurred. “ T h e Wo r k f o r c e ” i s a k e y foundational factor in upgrading to the “Smart City” level. The citizens need to be technologically knowledgeable and proficient. Steps being taken towards this goal are such as “Public High Speed Free Wi-Fi” for locals to be able to use up to 20MB. However, for this plan to be integrated by “High Season” in just 3 months it will take both excellent coordinating and a strong workforce” Pracha added.

หลายคนคงรู้กนั แล้ ว ว่า “ภูเก็ตและเชียงใหม่”เป็ น สองจังหวัดแรกที่รัฐบาล สนับสนุนให้ เป็ นจังหวัด น�าร่อง “Smart City” เรื่ องนี ้ แต่ “Smart City” คือ อะไร ? เพื่อให้ ได้ ค�าตอบ ที่ ชั ด เจน “ น า ย ป ร ะ ช า อัศวธีระ” ผู้จดั การส�านักงาน ส่งเสริ มอุตสาหกรรม ซอฟต์แวร์ แห่งชาติ (องค์การ ม ห า ช น ) ห รื อ S I P A ส�านักงานภาคใต้ ภเู ก็ตจะ เป็ นผู้ให้ ข้อมูลไขข้ อข้ องใจ “ ป ร ะ ช า ” บ อ ก ว่ า “Smart City” เป็ น การยก ระดับเมือง ให้ มีความน่าอยู่ ซึง่ ในส่วนของภูเก็ตที่ก�าหนด ไว้ จะเป็ นการยกระดับใน 4 ด้ านภายในปี 2020 ได้ แก่ 1. ด้ านความปลอดภัย 2. การเติบโตทางด้ านเศรษฐกิจ 3. ด้ าน สุขภาพ 4. ด้ านสิง่ แวดล้ อม ในส่วนของการด�าเนินโครงการ Phuket Smart City จะแบ่งเป็ น 3 ส่วนได้ แก่ 1. Smart Economy การสร้ างอุตสาหกรรมที่สองขึ ้น มารองรับภาคเศรษฐกิจของจังหวัดภูเก็ตเพราะต้ องยอมรับ ว่าในทิ ศทางปั จจุบัน “ภูเก็ ตมี การเติบโตด้ านเศรษฐกิ จ ด้ วยการท่องเที่ยวเพียงด้ านเดียว” มาโดยตลอดการน� า เทคโนโลยีดิจิทัล เข้ ามาสนับสนุนอุตสาหกรรมการท่อง เทีย่ ว เป็ นแนวทางทีม่ คี วามเข้ ากันได้ เป็ นอย่างดีโดย “Smart Economy” จะเข้ ามาช่วยสร้ างความโดดเด่นให้ กบั ภูเก็ตอาทิ –เป็ นแหล่งรวมนักพัฒนาในลักษณะของ Research Center หรื อ Innovation Center –ช่วยส่งเสริ มอุตสาหกรรมท่องเที่ยวให้ เกิดการใช้ Smart Technology มากขึ ้น 2. Smart Living Community เป็ นการสร้ างสังคมน่า อยูแ่ บ่งออกเป็ น 2 ส่วนได้ แก่ –ภูเก็ต Safe Smart City (ทางบก) เป็ นในเรื่ องการ สร้ างระบบความปลอดภัยด้ วยการใช้ กล้ อง CCTV โดย ปั จจุบนั กล้ อง CCTV ในภูเก็ตมีที่ใช้ งานได้ จริ งอยูป่ ระมาณ 1,700 ตัว สิ่งที่เป็ นปั ญหามาโดยตลอดเป็ นเรื่ องของการ เชื่อมต่อและการท�างานร่ วมกันอย่างเป็ นระบบ เนื่องจาก ในแต่ละพื ้นที่ต่างมีการท�างานแยกส่วนกันออกไป ดังนัน้ แนวทางของ Smart Living จะเป็ นรวมเข้ าสูศ่ นู ย์กลางพร้ อม ยกระดับประสิทธิภาพให้ เกิดระบบการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลได้ อย่างแม่นย�ายิ่งขึ ้น ตัวอย่างเช่นการใช้ กล้ อง CCTV คอยสังเกตการณ์ ความปลอดภัยโดยหากมีความผิดปกติเกิดขึ ้นในพื ้นทีร่ ะบบ จะสามารถรายงานข้ อมูลเพื่อส่งต่อไปยังเจ้ าหน้ าที่ต�ารวจ เพื่อเข้ าตรวจสอบในสถานที่นนๆได้ ั ้ อย่างรวดเร็ วนอกจากนี ้ การรักษาความปลอดภัยยังจะน�าระบบ “face recognition” หรื อ ระบบตรวจจับและวิเคราะห์ ใบหน้ า เข้ ามาใช้ ร่วม กับระบบฐานข้ อมูลด้ วย โดยเรื่องนี ้ด�าเนินการจะน�าร่องใน 2 พื ้นทีส่ า� คัญได้ แก่เทศบาลเมืองป่ าตองกับเทศบาลนครภูเก็ต

–ภูเก็ต Safe Smart City (ทางน� ้า) เป็ นการสร้ างความ ปลอดภัยในด้ านการเดินเรื อส�าหรับนักท่องเที่ยวซึง่ ปั จจุบนั ภูเก็ตมีระบบที่ท�าให้ รับทราบได้ วา่ มีเรื อในทะเลอันดามัน อยูเ่ ท่าไหร่และการต่อยอดจะเป็ นการน�าอุปกรณ์ประเภท “Smart Band” ให้ นกั ท่องเที่ยวได้่ ใส่ก่อนลงเรื อออกไปท่อง เที่ยวโดยระบบของ Smart Band จะเชื่อมต่อกับพาสสปอร์ ต ศูนย์กลางสามารถตรวจเช็คได้ วา่ มีนกั ท่องเที่ยวอยูบ่ นเรื อ จ�านวนเท่าไหร่ขณะนี ้ก�าลังอยูใ่ นระหว่างด�าเนินการวิเคราะห์ ถึงผลกระทบด้ านความเป็ นส่วนตัวทีน่ กั ท่องเทีย่ วจะได้ รบั เมือ่ สวมใส่ Smart Band 3. Smart Sensor เป็ นเซนเซอร์ ส�าหรับการตรวจสอบ สภาพอากาศน�าไปสูก่ ารพยากรณ์สภาพอากาศในพื ้นที่ ต่างๆได้ แม่นย�ายิ่งขึ ้นระบบเซ็นเซอร์ ยงั สามารถปรับใช้ ใน การตรวจเช็คสภาพของน� ้าทะเลยกตัวอย่างเช่นในกรณี การเกิดสาหร่ายในทะเลอันเนื่องมาจากความผิดปกติของ ปฏิกิริยาทางเคมีในน� ้าทะเลซึง่ เราจะรู้และแก้ ไขก็ตอ่ เมื่อ ปั ญหาเกิดขึ ้นแล้ วการเซนเซอร์ แบบใหม่จะเป็ นการตรวจวัด ค่าเคมีตา่ งๆในทะเลหากมีความผิดปกติระบบจะส่งข้ อมูล ไปยังศูนย์กลางเพื่อให้ เจ้ าหน้ าที่สามารถเข้ าไปแก้ ไขได้ ก่อน ที่ปัญหาจะเกิดขึ ้นเป็ นต้ น “บุคลากร... นับเป็ นปั จจัยพื ้นฐานที่ส�าคัญของการยก ระดับภูเก็ตให้ เป็ น Smart City ซึง่ ประชาชนจะต้ องมีความรู้ ความเข้ าใจในเทคโนโลยีมากขึ ้น โดยแนวทางในการส่งเสริมเรื่องนี ้ได้ แก่การสร้ าง Pubilc Free Wi-Fi ในระดับ Hi-Speed ที่จะประชาชนจะสามารถ เข้ าถึงอินเทอร์ เน็ตและใช้ ได้ ด้วยความเร็ วอย่างน้ อย 20MB ซึง่ การด�าเนินการในเรื่ องนี ้ก�าลังอยูใ่ นขันตอนของการจั ้ ด ซื ้อจัดจ้ างและต้ องด�าเนินการให้ เสร็ จภายใน 3 เดือนเพื่อให้ ทันกับช่วง Hi Season นี ้ของจังหวัดภูเก็ต”นายประชา ให้ ความเห็นเพิ่มเติม

The Missing Happiness of Phuket

huket has a name for being a world class tourist location where people with stressful tiring jobs come within the limitations of their “holidays” to let go and enjoy the beauty of nature. The local generous lifestyle of Phuket people adds to the tourist’s uplifting experience that leads them back to work refreshed.

Information from Tourism of Thailand shows that an average of 13 million tourists visit Phuket every year creating over 250 billion baht of revenue.

These numbers show that “Phuket” is constantly growing.

But before I get carried away, the results of the survey “Thai Happiness in all 77 Provinces” gathered from the “super poll” revealed “Phuket in 77th place with a total average score of 5.14 out of 10.”

Phuket even has a lower score than the 3 southern bordering provinces that experience violent crime on a daily basis.

For me, I think this is an issue that the “Provincial leaders” need

to carefully consider.

If the problem is looked at closely, it is evident that although the economy continues to grow, the structure of the revenue distribution throughout Phuket follows the same pattern as the entire country, which is “the rich cluster and the poor scatter”.

Simply put, the structure of the revenue distribution from the economic growth lacks balance.

One group of the Phuket people is able to build a wealthy reputation, while the rest must deal with various obstacles such as inflation and the ever increasing cost of living which is the result of the ever growing tourism industry itself!

The growth of tourist businesses comes by the 10s and 100s of millions, but we didn’t get it out of thin air, we have to make a trade of some sort!

For example, the tourism regulations set for Phuket beaches are designed to conserve the beauty and cleanliness of the local environment for locals and especially tourists to enjoy.

However, on the other side,

there are many locals that have lost their profits, jobs or even careers since the start of tourism industry in Phuket.

The loss of one person’s career is detrimental because it doesn’t just affect them, but their families as well. I think it’s quite clear the ripple effect that is caused.

I am not trying to come against the countries development, but I just want to point out that “although development disregards the small business owners, they have actually been a part of conserving the key property capital that has built today’s tourism industry.”

This may be the answer to why Phuket is ranked last in the “Thailand Happiness Index”.

Chiang Rai is carrying out a project that will allow authentic high standard products to Phuket by created a brand name and logo for products chosen from both SMEs & OTOP businesses in Chiang Rai. 4 New Logo “Visit Asean@50

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations presented their new logo for the ASEAN Tourism campaign in the ASEAN Conference at Vientiane, Laos. The goal of this campaign is to promote the associations 50th year and in result push the tourism industry’s profits from the past $75 billion a year to $83 billion in 2017.

The “Visit ASEAN @ 50” will officially open at the ASEAN Tourism Forum in January 2017 in Singapore.

The offices of CNN News started a charity campaign in the subways of Clapham Common, London by posting over 68 photos of stray cats in various poses in place of general advertisement signs throughout the subway stations.

Who Am I Working For?

“For whom am I toiling,” he asked, “and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?” Ecclesiastes 4:8 Henry worked 70 hours a week. He loved his job and brought home a sizeable paycheck to provide good things for his family. He always had plans to slow down but he never did. One evening he came home with great news—he had been promoted to the highest position in his company. But no one was home. Over the years, his children had grown up and moved out, his wife had found a career of her own, and now the house was empty. There was no one to share the good news with.

Solomon talked about the need to keep a balance in life with our work. He wrote, “Fools fold their hands and ruin themselves” (Eccl. 4:5). We don’t want to go to the extreme of being lazy, but neither do we want to fall into the trap of being a workaholic. “Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind” (v. 6). In other words, it is better to have less and enjoy it more. Sacrificing relationships at the altar of success is unwise. Achievement is fleeting, while relationships are what make our life meaningful, rewarding, and enjoyable (vv. 7-12).

The Lord can give us this wisdom as we seek Him and trust Him to be our Provider.

We can learn to work to live and not live to work by choosing to apportion our time wisely. The Lord can give us this wisdom as we seek Him and trust Him to be our Provider.

Lord, show me if my priorities are skewed and where I need to make changes. Thank You for the gift of family and friends.

To spend time wisely, invest it in eternity.

INSIGHT: The book of Ecclesiastes laments the vanity of life when God is not taken into account. In regard to our work, Solomon calls us to seek moderation and contentment (4:6–8) and to find meaning, satisfaction, and enjoyment in cooperation with others (vv. 9–12). Thailand’s Heritage “Muay Thai” Becomes a World Heritage

M

uay Thai is an art form of selfdefense that can be trained for sport or real life fighting. This art form has existed since the Traditional Thai Era; Thai ancestors have passed down Muay Thai training for their sons to protect both family and country. In the past, this training was taught to almost all Thai men.

Legendary warriors in the history of Thailand were all trained up by Muay Thai, especially for close-quarter combat since it incorporates every part of the body to fight such as the fists, feet, knees and elbows.

“Traditional Muay Thai” is easily differentiated from the contemporary style in that “on floor fighting techniques” from the traditional form known as “Muay Choya” is no longer used. An expert Muay Thai fighter exclaimed that “This is because the regulations have been adjusted to make the fight more fit for competition such as requiring gloves, head protection and fight breaks upon falls.”

Presently, “Muay Thai” has become both a sport and a hobby.

In the world of fist fighting art forms, “Muay Thai” has stood out among the rest. Foreigners who come and visit Thailand hardly ever miss a chance to see at least one Muay Thai competition.

In key tourist hotspots all over Thailand such as Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket, “Muay Thai” has become an important factor in creating business opportunity, whether it is the boxing ring, camps or training; “Muay Thai” has created jobs and careers for many Thai people.

At the same time, “Muay Thai” has helped promote Thai culture throughout the world.

The Belief Isn’t Over The Vegetarian Festival Phuket

T

he red dragon Lanterns and yellow flags lining the streets in Phuket is a sign that everyone whether local or tourist knows.

Unmistakably, it signifies the time of the Vegetarian festival in Phuket which this year runs from Oct. 1-9th.

This festival which is also

known as “Jia Chai” (eat vegetables) is a Chinese ritual that involves giving offerings to various spirit gods which has been a part of Chinese culture for a long time, especially the Hokien people. The event is held in accordance with the Chinese culture from Oct. 1-9th.

held in Thailand in “Lai Tu” or “Nai Tu” which nowadays is known as Katu Sub-district.

In the past, Katu used to be nothing but jungle until it was discovered that it was abundant with tin resources. Chinese businessmen then came down to start mining the tin and Katu quickly grew into a large

community.

Shortly after, the Chinese community brought C h i n e s e st y l e p l a y s f o r local entertainment. As the community quickly grew, an epidemic spread and many of the Chinese miners became very ill. The Chinese play operators joined to discuss the

concern and decided it was necessary to hold the Jia Chai ritual as they had done in their own country. After initiated an annual festival the community began to pass the epidemic and number of diseases among the people went down considereably.

The community was so surprised by the results of the ritual that they decided to wanted to make sure the festival was being properly operated. Therefore, the locals consulted with the Chinese Play operators and organized for the necessary spiritual cleansing experts to run the festival’s rituals.

The Chinese Play operators explained that although having the spiritual cleansing experts is important, it is equally important that the locals do their part in eating only vegetables in order to cleanse themselves.

T h e Ve g e t a r i a n Festival therefore first started in Phuket and from here spread across to other Provinces in Southern Thailand.

After the results of hosting and participating

in the Vegetarian Festival were continually evident, the local miners believe grew strong keeping it as a tradition for over 200 years.

It has therefore become an excellent ritual the local Phuket people must never see end. 虔诚无止境 普吉守戒吃斋节 精美雕琢的龙灯，光彩耀 眼夺目。再加上一面面布满 普吉大街小巷的小黄旗，这 仿佛就在告诉来自远方的客 人：2016年10月1-9日，在这 个地方将再次汇集举办一场最 最盛大壮观的融合为一的守戒 吃斋节。 普吉岛的守戒吃斋节，或 当地华人叫做“吃菜”，是自 古以来信仰道教的中国人，特 别是来自福建一带的中国人为 了祭拜神仙、天神、神明的一 种文化风俗。守戒吃斋节正值 每一年中国农历的九月初一 至初九。 “吃斋”这一文化风俗， 最初起源于泰国的一个叫“莱 图”或“奈图”的村落，也就 是今天我们所说的卡图县。 在过去，奈图（卡图）县 是一个杂草灌木丛生，疟疾成 患，被各种灾难所困扰地方。 可那里却蕴藏着丰富的锡矿， 吸引了很多中国人陆陆续续前 来挖凿锡矿。 后来，有一支来自中国的 戏班子到了奈图县进行曲艺表 演，那时候的奈图县百姓经济 条件非常优越，能完全赞助戏 班在当地的全年开支。戏班子

在奈图县表演了一段时间后，不断有 人莫名其妙地出现生病发烧的症状。疫 情出现后戏班子突然意识到之前每年在 中国都要举行的守戒吃斋（吃菜）节， 到了奈图县后大家似乎都遗忘去遵守举 行了。在戏班子里大家相互商量后决定 今后将在戏班子里举行守戒吃斋仪式， 以此来祷告忏悔自己犯下的所有罪恶。 没多久所有人的病情都逐渐消失了，甚 至长期缠绕着奈图县百姓的病魔也随之 被驱散了。 这件事情让奈图县百姓深表好奇，

于是向戏班子了解情况，得到的答案是 戏班子举行了简单的守戒吃斋仪式。由 于戏班里没有一个人精通操办举行仪式 的步骤，于是他们只能以敬香供奉膜拜 的方式向神明请求宽恕自己的罪恶，也 以此方式纪念“九皇大帝”。 戏班子建议所有在奈图的华人：我 们敬香膜拜祈祷神明来保佑庇护我们， 让我们的家人和我们的家园永久太平、 安居乐业。敬香供奉是一种很好的祈祷 方式，但最好是应该履行守戒吃斋这一 风俗。之后奈图百姓和华人都相信戏班 子给出的建议，并虔诚地履行守戒吃斋 这一风俗直至今日。 普吉岛的吃斋的文化习俗最早发源 地就在奈图（如今的卡图）后来这种习 俗渐渐地被传播到泰国各地区。 在奈图的华人举行守戒吃斋仪式 后，百姓们所患的各种疾病也随之退散

并最终消失。在深山丛林从事于锡 矿开采的华人更加相信这种说法， 每年都虔诚地去遵守这一戒律。如 今守戒吃斋这一戒律已经传承了200 多年了。守戒吃斋习俗已经成为普 吉人最美好的习俗，其将继续被编 织传承到底。

โคมไฟรูปมังกร สีสนั สวยงามสะดุดตา บวกกับ ริ ว้ ธงเหลืองที่ตดิ ตังเรี ้ ยงรายแทบทุกถนนในตัวเมืองภูเก็ต เป็ นเสมือนค�าบอกกล่าวต่อนักท่องเทีย่ วและผู้มาเยือนภูเก็ต ทุกคนว่า นีค่ อื ช่วงเวลาที่ งานประเพณีถอื ศีลกินผักทีย่ งิ่ ใหญ่ และอลังการณ์ที่สดุ ได้ เวียนมาบรรจบอีกครัง้ ซึง่ ในปี นี ้ตรง กับวันที่ 1-9 ตุลาคม 2559 ประเพณีถือศีลกินผักจังหวัดภูเก็ต หรื อที่เรี ยกกันว่า "เจี�ยะฉ่าย" (กินผัก) เป็ นลัทธิเต๋าซึง่ นับถือบูชาเซียนเทวดา เทพเจ้ า วีรบุรุษ เป็ นประเพณีที่คนจีนนับถือมาช้ านาน โดย เฉพาะคนจีนฮกเกี ้ยน วันประกอบพิธีตรงกับวันขึ ้น 1 ค�่า ถึง 9 ค�่า ตามปฏิทินจีนของทุกๆปี ประเพณี เ จี� ย ะฉ่ า ย ได้ เริ่ มขึ น้ เป็ นครั ง้ แรกใน ประเทศไทยที่หมู่บ้าน “ไล่ท”ู หรื อ “ในทู” หรื อ บ้ านกะทู้ ต�าบลกะทู้ ในปั จจุบนั ในอดีต พื ้นที่รอบๆในทู (กะทู้) ยังเป็ นป่ าทึบ มีไข้ ป่า ตลอดจนภยันตรายต่างๆ มากมาย แต่ด้วยความอุดมสม บรูณ์ไปด้ วยแร่ดบี กุ จึงท�าให้ คนจีนหลัง่ ไหลเข้ ามาขุดแร่ดบี กุ เป็ นจ�านวนมาก “หมูบ่ ้ านในทู” กลายเป็ นชุมชนขนาดใหญ่ ขึ ้นอย่างรวดเร็ ว ต่อมามีคณะงิ ้ว จากประเทศจีนมาเปิ ดแสดงที่บ้านใน ทู เนื่องจากเศรษฐกิจที่ดีมากของชาวในทู สามารถอุดหนุน งิ ้วคณะนี ้ได้ ตลอดปี หลังจากคณะงิ ้วได้ เปิ ดท�าการแสดง อยู่ที่บ้านในทูระยะหนึ่ง ได้ เกิดมีการเจ็บป่ วยเป็ นไข้ จาก การเจ็บป่ วยครัง้ นี ้ท�าให้ คณะงิ ้วนึกขึ ้นได้ วา่ พวกตนไม่ได้ ประกอบพิธี เจี�ยะฉ่าย (กินผัก) ซึ่งเคยปฏิบตั ิกนั มาทุกปี ที่เมืองจีน จึงได้ ปรึ กษาหารื อในหมู่คณะ และได้ ตกลงใจ ประกอบพิธีเจี�ยะฉ่ายขึ ้นที่โรงงิ ้วเพื่อขอขมาโทษด้ วยสาเหตุ ต่างๆ ต่อมาโรคภัยไข้ เจ็บก็หายไปหมดสิ ้น รวมทังโรคภั ้ ยไข้ เจ็บที่เคยเบียดเบียดชาวในทู ก็ลดลงด้ วยเช่นกัน เรื่ องนี ้สร้ างความประหลาดใจให้ แก่ชาวในทูเป็ นอัน มาก จึงได้ สอบถามคณะงิ ้ว และได้ ค�าตอบว่าพวกเขาได้ ประกอบพิ ธี เ จี� ย ะฉ่ า ยแบบย่อ ๆ เนื่ อ งจากไม่มี ผ้ ูร้ ู และผู้ ช�านาญในการจัดประกอบพิธีเจี�ยะฉ่ายโดยเพียงแต่สกั กา ระบูชากราบไหว้ ขอขมาโทษ ระลึกถึง “กิ ้วอ๋องต่ายเต่” หรื อ พระราชาธิราชทังเก้ ้ าพระองค์นนเอง ั้

คณะงิว้ ยังได้ แนะน� าชาวจี นในทูต่อไปว่า การเชิญ เทพเจ้ ามาสักการะบูชาเพื่อปกป้องตนเอง ครอบครัว และ ท้ องถิ่ น เพื่อให้ อยู่เย็นเป็ นสุขตามที่ได้ ปฏิบัติกันมาแล้ ว เป็ นสิ่งที่ดี แต่ถ้าจะให้ ดียิ่งขึ ้นก็ควรจะเจี�ยะฉ่ายถือศีลไป ด้ วย ชาวในทูและคนจีนส่วนใหญ่มีความเชื่อและเลื่อมใส ได้ ปฏิบตั ิตามค�าแนะน�าของคณะงิ ้ว โดยได้ ประกอบพิธีเจี� ยะฉ่ายในปี ตอ่ มา ประเพณีเจี�ยะฉ่ายของเมืองภูเก็ตได้ เกิดขึ ้นเป็ นครัง้ แรกที่ในทู (กะทู้) นัน่ เอง ต่อมาจึงได้ แพร่หลายออกไปตาม สถานที่ตา่ งๆ หลังจากชาวจีนในทูได้ ประกอบพิธีเจี�ยะฉ่าย โรคภัย ไข้ เจ็บต่างๆ ได้ ลดน้ อยลงและหายไปในที่สดุ ท�าให้ ชาวจีน ที่มาอาศัยท�าเหมืองแร่อยูต่ ามดงตามป่ ามีความเชื่อและ ศรัทธาเลื่อมใส ปฏิบตั ิสืบทอดกันมาทุกปี นบั เวลาได้ ร่วม สองร้ อยปี แล้ ว... กลายเป็ นประเพณีอนั ดีงามของชาวภูเก็ตที่ต้อง สืบสานกันต่อไปอย่างไม่สิ ้นสุด

r. Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, the Founder of Sunrise Events a world class production company from the Philippines, was the host of the event. This who joined the Triathlon Press Conference include Mr. Tanugiat Janchum, the Director of National Sports and Boxing, Dr. Prajiat Aksorntamagun, the Deputy Governor of Phuket and Mr. Margo Bertakka, the Management Commissioner of Friesland Campina Company (Thailand).

The internationally recognized even “Foremost Ironman 70.3 Thailand” will hold a grand prize of 15,000 dollars (510,000 baht) along with the elegibility to enter the “Ironman 70.3 World Championship 2017” in Chattanooga, U.S.A. In recognition of the ironman contenders, so far there has been over 1,200 people registered from 56 different countries, 20 of which are listed professional triathletes contending for eligibility to the world championship. The expected total revenue produced for the Thai economy through the event is estimated at over 200,000,000 Baht.

Ironman contenders from all over the world will get to experience the full beauty of Phuket Island including its crystal clear waters, pure white sand and nature filled views.

Contenders will start with a 1.9km swim out from Sana Beach Club at Laguna Phuket, from there its 90km cycling before finishing with a 21.1km run. In total the race is 113km or 70.3mi.

The success of this competition will increasingly promote the potential of Thailand’s tourism industry. 铁人70.3

The Variance Of Contemporary Art

oin a Generation that’s Different” is a an amazing art gallery

by Prasert Kongwuniwet and Pat Kaewdam. Both artists are hosting the gallery from Sept 10 – Oct 31 2016 at Boathouse Kata Beach Phuket Resort.

The art by “Prasert” has a focus on “Local Fishing Boats” which is a common lifestyle among people of the Andaman Coast. The art has a landscape drawing style that is inspired by the fishermen’s view of the sea.

As for the art by “Pat”,

there is a reflection of a good versus evil concept as inspired by the local form of Buddhist culture and religion that has been passed down from “Indian” to “Southeast Asian” heritage. This is the unique “identity” of the Andaman locals that can vary from place to place.
