Dr. Suraphan Mekanawin from the committee of CAT Telecom Public Co Ltd shared regarding the progress of the free Wi-Fi installation project under the “Phuket Smart City” Project at the event P-REA DINNER TALK “Phuket 2017” by Phuket Real Estate Organization. As a gift to the Phuket locals, CAT is accelerating the installation of free “smart wifi” in key tourist spots such as Patong Beach, Bangla Rd, Saphan Hin and Old Town to be ready for public access on December 29th. In following, in 2017 public Wi-Fi access will be operational in every area of Phuket with 1,000 Wi-Fi spots. As part of the “Phuket Smart City” project, the government has funded the one year installation of 1,000 free Wi-Fi router boxes throughout Phuket providing continual internet access. The router box networks will record

the Wi-Fi is used for wrong purposes, the culprit can be discerned within 5 – 10 minutes. Once the 1 year contract is expired, those interested in continual use the “smart wifi” network system will be able to register for a special monthly rate through local service providers. There will also be a promotional registration website page and in the future an application registration available for immediate access.

We are hoping for a golden year filled with opportunity and optimistic smiles here in Thailand. This coming year hidden concerns are pointing towards politics regarding this “election road map” phase that we are in. Will the obstacles that arise be prolonged and how? Why should we be concerned with p olitics? Because according to many international development banks and institutions, Thailand’s current politics have been an obstacle towards the development of the economy. “During Thailand’s 3 years in a state of Coup, export rates were in a rigid deficit putting Thailand’s economic growth rate at the bottom of the charts in Asia.” Phuket Times agrees with the saying “in every crisis there is always a hidden opportunity”. “The economic growth of neighboring countries and especially those bordering Thailand such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and even Vietnam have created an increase in product and service demand. This serves as a good sign for many Thai businesses to expand their market into such countries considering their competitive advantage as the geographical center point of ASEAN. Th e re fore, i f t h e Th ai government expedites the states initial investments along with the results of the neighboring countries economic growth, it is possible that Thailand’s economy could grow at a faster rate than anticipated. In addition, if this “road map election” phase carries out as set, there are international

Before we talk about “Thailand 4.0”, first we must recognize “Thailand 1.0”, “Thailand 2.0” and “Thailand 3.0” as Thailand development models. “Thailand 1.0” was focused on farm land while “Thailand 2.0” began light industrial development followed by heavy industrial development in “Thailand 3.0”. The 3 past Thailand development models has brought Thailand into the group of countries known as “high middle income”. However, as this level has become a stall point for Thailand’s development, consideration for “Thailand 4.0” has come underway. This next model has the potential to push the country very far through the economic infrastructure concept “Value-Based Economy”. Value-Based Economy Includes 1.A change from pushing consumer products to innovative products 2.A change from industrial movement to a technological and creative movement 3.A change from emphasizing production to services “Thailand 4.0” Framework Includes 1.A change from original farming methods to a modern concept of farming emphasizing technology and molding farmers into wealthy agricultural businessmen. 2.A change from Traditional SME’s or SME’s assisted by the government to the pressing forward of Smart Enterprises and high potential

Startups. 3.A change from Traditional Services with low value to High Value Services 4. A change from low-skilled labor to more high-skilled educated labor that is experienced. The Novel “Boarding”Project Unraveling the “Traffic Crisis” in Phuket

he “Boarding project officially known as the “Touring Pier near Phuket Airport” project was first thought of by Mr. Phuripan Thiragulpisut when he was still the Director of the Sector 5 Regional offices Phuket. At that time, the project was much admired by Mr. Prasert Chanruangtorn the Chancellor of the Ministry of Communications. ““Prasert” shared that the “Boarding Project” will provide another option for tourists heading out on nearby island tours. Building a pier near the airport will create great convenience for tourists as it will bypass the need to travel through high traffic areas opening up island accessibility. “The Department of Harbors will construct a pier and terminal behind the Phuket Airport. The pier will extend 250 meters into the sea and the terminal will be able to receive from 5,000 - 10,000 people per a day. The budget for the project is set at 238 million baht and is to be completely built and operational in 18 months. In addition, the pier will not be required to research the environmental impact once permitted by the High Cabinet in order to fulfill the urgency of the project. In fact the project may be pushed to an even faster completion date within 1 year.” Prasert said Due to the unstable state of the government at that time during the coup on May 22nd 2014, the National Board of Maintaining Order and the role of Prasert as the Chancellor of the Ministry of Communications finishing, the fire of the “Boarding” project had burned out as well. On November 1st, 2016 with the inauguration of the new Governor of Phuket, Mr. Chokchai Detamornthan in accordance with former governor policies saw the “Boarding Project” as a very attractive idea and solution. “The “Boarding Project” is certainly a “think outside the box”

It will be able to help solve the serious traffic issues in Phuket using a completely different approach than previous solution strategies, I really like this concept.” “In addition, I want to see this project follow and a new infrastructural and architectural design that makes this pier stand out as a “landmark” impressing everyone who comes on a visit to Phuket. The design should be both modern and innovative in welcoming guests as this is an excellent chance to impress travelers today as well as the next generation. If we just make another regular pier like all the others I think it would be better not

properly and thoroughly presented to such groups soon.” Whether thew “Boarding Project” is continued or shutdown, that will be up to the Phuket citizen's final answer!!

Produces 30M Baht Come out Next year at “Chiang Mai” January 6-12 2017

r. Narong Buisirirak, the Deputy Director of the Department of Community Development was the opening speaker at the “Regional-Phuket OTOP”. Mr. Buisirirak shared regarding the event’s organizing concept which designed OTOP to reach every region including 5 different hosting provinces including Ubon Ratchathani, PhraNakorn Si Ayutthaya, Kong Kaen, Phuket and Chiang Mai. He said “Organizing OTOP on a regional scale creates a channel for marketing that creates jobs and income in each area. Also, it motivates the development of quality standardized merchandise and improves its popularity and range of acceptance.” As for the 4th Regional Phuket OTOP Event organized on December 10th – 16th 2016 at the center stage in Saphan Hin, the event held over 300 booths filled with individual products for sale. The post read as follows. “Tourism policies in every government are purposed to distribute the earnings towards the locals, however in the expansion of the Phuket Airport, open areas were sold on an auction basis where the big companies took the majority of the share leaving the locals with just a few stall rental options. This reprehensible act has left Thai locals and citizens utterly confused!! And people have been asking “why must only one person or company benefit and get rich?”…” Along with this I have seen a piece of news reported by local

Over many decades of success in Thailand’s tourism, regardless of the information’s source, 2 key factors always line up; first, having both a large amount and variety of tourism sources, and second, having people with willing bright smiles in welcoming people of every nationality and language. For me, when it comes to “sources of tourism”, Thailand may face the stepping up of a new competitor or perhaps even be surpassed considering the news of a newer source of tourism by neighboring Myanmar. However, the genuine “good hospitality of Thai people” is hard to find a comparisonin many nationalities and is the most valuable resource Thai tourism has. Management in this new generation whether governmental, local or private must move forward with a notion of “cooperative discussion and compromise” in order to reach important points down the road. Simply put, “we need to make Thais smile” because it’s the best most important asset in Thai tourism.

Locals Unite Narcotic Drugs Lower

t’s a normal everyday occurrence at theAnti-Narcotics Drugs Control Center Phuket Town District under the management of Mr. Suphot Chanagitthe District Prefect of Phuket Town to have to assess reports from various Narcotic Drug Awareness Networks. On the morning of December 19th, Mr. Samran Yukuntorn the Chief Sheriff at the Anti-Narcotics Drugs Control Center Phuket Town District was informed by such networks of a drug exchange to take place at a Gas Station on Phun Phon Rd in Phuket Town. In response, the sheriff led his designated taskforce to the notified location. “The performance results of the Anti-Narcotics Drugs Control Center Phuket Town District showed that they were able to catch2 criminals with possession of 101.38g of Methamphetamine. During interrogation the suspects confessed that there were 2 similar exchanges previouslyand the deals are made to teenagers at a price of 3000 Baht per gram with the narcotic drugs sent on a Hat Yai-Phuket bus.” Mr. Suphot Chanagit the District Prefect of Phuket Town shared

นายส�ำราญ ยุคณ ุ ธร ปลัดอ�ำเภอ หัวหน้ า ชุดป้องกันและปราบปรามยาเสพติด (ปปส.) อ.เมืองภูเก็ต ได้ รับแจ้ งจากเครื อ ข่ายฯ ว่าจะมีการส่งมอบยาเสพติดกัน ที่ ปั ม้ น� ้ำมัน ถนนพูลผล ในเขตตัวเมือง ภูเก็ต จึงได้ นำ� ก�ำลังเจ้ าหน้ าทีใ่ นสังกัดไป ยังสถานที่ตามหมายแจ้ งจากเครื อข่ายฯ “ผลการปฏิบตั งิ านของ ปปส. อ.เมือง ภูเก็ต สามารถจับกุมผู้กระท�ำความผิด ได้ 2 คน พร้ อมของกลางเป็ น “ยาไอซ์” (Methamphetamine) บรรจุใ นซอง พลาสติกใสน�ำ้ หนักรวม 101.38 กรั ม

จากการสอบสวนขยายผล ผู้ต้ อ งหา สารภาพว่า เคยท�ำมาแล้ ว 2 ครัง้ โดย ยาไอซ์ที่รับมาจะน�ำมาขายให้ กบั วัย รุ่ นในราคากรัมละ 3,000 บาท โดยยา เสพติดดังกล่าวถูกส่งมาทางรถโดยสาร หาดใหญ่ – ภูเก็ต” นายสุพจน์ ชนะกิจ นายอ�ำเภอ เมื องภูเก็ ต กล่าวว่า การป้องกันและ ปราปรามยาเสพติ ด ในพื น้ ที่ อ.เมื อ ง ภูเก็ตด�ำเนินการตามนโยบายรัฐบาล ตามโครงการ “ประชารั ฐร่ วมใจสร้ าง หมูบ่ ้ าน-ชุมชนมัน่ คงปลอดภัยยาเสพ

The Mission of Phuket Provincial Authorities

he Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) has established the “Phuket Tourist Rescue Center PAO” near the Ao Chalong Pier in Muang District, Phuket with an aim towards providing services that help improve both tourist safety and convenience for both their property and wellbeing. This aim is ultimately directed towards building assurance between both Thai people and the tourists who come to visit. T h e P h u k e t To u r i st Rescue Center PAO has a Radio Communications Center named the “Pearl” which has 4 patrol vehicles, 2 patrol boats and 1 rescue vehicle operated

by both staff and volunteer teams known as the “Fuang Fa”, a total of 25 people ready on call to help tourists in any scenario. The teams also conjoin with government operations such as foundations and both public and private hospitals 24/7. Statistics for both citizen and tourist serviced by the Phuket Tourist Rescue Center PAO for the year 2016 from Jan - Nov showed a total of 1,120 instances serviced with 1,107 on land and 12 by sea, 847 injured and 342 emergency patients.

2 PROFESSIONAL SURFER’S PHENOMENAL SHOW UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS Foreign news publicized both photos and clips of Mick Fanning a Champion Surfer at 35 years old from Australia surfing under the gorgeous colors of the northern lights in the Lofoten Islands, Norway. Mick shared a bit about the difficulty and

patience it took to wait out the aligning of all the necessary factors in order to get the best shots. The trip took a total of 10 days that involved waiting out snow storms and timing the tides with the sunsets that made for a challenging adventure.

JAPANESE PARLIAMENT APPROVES CASINOS IN JAPAN On December 15th, the Japanese Parliament passed a bill allowing the opening of casinos in Japan headed up by Mr. Shinzo Abe the Prime Minister of Japan. Shinzo sees the opening of the casinos as a good opportunity to boost tourism and the Japan economy. However, he will face heavy opposition by the liberal Democratic Party who see it as door to an increase in criminal activities driven by gambling addictions. Yoshihide Suga, the Chief Cabinet Secretary stated that the government will ensure strict measures towards gambling addiction prevention. Casino openings are expected in 2021 after Japan hosts the 2020 Olympics.

CHINA ORDERS VERY FIRST AIRCRAFT CARRIER LIVE AMMUNITION BATTLE DRILLS CCTV News in China reported that the Chinese Navy has publicized their Kuznetsovclass aircraft carrier “Liaoning” to perform live ammunition battle drills for the first time in the Bohai Sea east of China (Dec. 16th 2016). These battle drills will take place on a large scale involving tens of destroyers and several wings of Shenyang J-15 fighters. China made an official statement regarding the intentions of the battle drills stating that the operations are in order to assess the readiness and efficiency of the armament and improve the ability of the operators. Reuters News in London shared regarding the live ammunition battle drills by China to be a possible response to the tension created from the new president of the U.S “Donald Trump” after his call with the President of Taiwan stirring the “One China” conflict and in effect displeasing

the Chinese government at Beijing. At the same time, the increase in naval armed forces in the South China Sea by China has created much concern among many countries and especially those with history of nearby island ownership conflicts with China.

huket’s Governor sets an order of registration for the 1,300+ unpermitted hotel businesses in Phuket The prolonged issue of unpermitted hotel business has damaged the tourist industry and the Thai economy as a whole. Mr. Chokchai Detamornthan, the Governor of Phuket along with related administrations has set a binding law to prosecute commercial building owners who exploit their guesthouses, apartments or condominium facilities by providing nightly stay services as a hotel. Unlawful business as such causes a heavy negative impact on permitted hotel business owners. Surveys show that currently there are 424 properly registered hotels in Phuket accounting for 45,740 rooms. As for hotels that have opened services without proper registration there are currently 1,366 hotels in all. This is an tremendous number that provincial authorities have already gathered contact information for. Therefore, in order to resolve the issue regarding 1,366 unpermitted hotels in Phuket, Provincial Authorities have given the opportunity for such hotels to register their businesses within 2

months starting from December 1st 2016 to January 31st 2017. Therefore any operating hotel businesses that are still unregistered after the Jan 31st deadline will undergo immediate governmental shutdown. “From the information collected by officials, black group hotels include both large and small businesses with trouble constructing new buildings or trouble with completed construction on public grounds in which some are owned by wellknown business owners in Phuket. At this point, Provincial Authorities are not concerned with who the hotel ownership is under, but rather only whether correct documentation has entered the system. Whether its land deed documentation problems or beach encroachment withdrawal, all illegal activities must be ceased except for those that are still under court processing. As for hotels applying for new building permits, all paperwork must in be accordance with the policies set in place by local authorities. In addition, those authorities are responsible for verifying the policies’ congruence with the Hotel Act of 2004 set by the Board of Proposals. Therefore, in order to insure new

hotels documentation is appropriately authorized, building permits will be thoroughly processed through local authorities and verified by provincial authorities.” Mr. Chockchai stated

On December 15th, at Ao Po Grand Marina, Phuket in Thalang, Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand was the opening speaker at the “2nd Thailand Yacht Show 2016” hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Communications and the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

This event is aimed towards promoting Thailand’s potential to become the Marina Hub of Asia in order to attract high class tourists and continually improve the boating industry in areas such as boat repair and

maintenance expertise and balanced salaries. “This year ’s event will help prompt an increase in the number

of yacht businesses for next year to be no lower than 2,500 vessels. These results will impact the economy greatly bringing in approximately 7 billion baht in revenue through related businesses. Based on this clear information, it’s no doubt that yacht businesses and especially super yachts have a higher expense rate on average than other tourism businesses. During the middle of November last month, Pracharat Rak Samakkee Co Ltd, a partnership between the government and large Thai private sector companies initiated the project “Ong Lai Phuket Pineapples Campaign” which opened the reserving of 100 exclusive authentic Phuket pineapples at a price of 1,543 Baht a piecein which all the pineapples were reserved within the opening day of the Ong Lai Phuket Project. This project is aimed towards improving the publicity of Phuket pineapples while opening new channels for farming businesses to reach the consumer market and ultimately improve the livelihood of farmers as they generally serve as the country’s backbone.

As of now, we are in the stage of finding operating locations that will sell quality produce. Also, the concept could develop into “Q-Restaurants” which would use the quality produce in their menus.” The Governor of Phuket said Mr. Wirachai Pranawirapaibul from management at Pracharat Rak Samakkee Co Ltd stated that besides the Ong Lai Phuket Pineapples for Prosperity Campaign, the company is preparing to organize the “2017 Phuket Pineapple Festival”. “Auntie Ong Lai” will be an event mascot to

help introduce the hotel restaurant’s menus and “Yanad boy” as a mascot for the sweet dishing and beverages provided from Phuket pineapples. Certainly, for tourist, foreigners and locals alike, this event is one worth marking the calendar for.

he harmonious string sounds of the guzheng will resonate with the ears of any listener in any event. The sound of the guzheng is also a key part of the atmosphere in Chinese fairy tales. It is both the face and elegance of a guzheng player’s artistic ability that attracts the spirit of the fairy tales. I myself, when listening to the guzheng felt hypnotized by the beauty of its sound. After, I felt I had to get a chance to talk with the guzheng player to find out more.The guzheng player’s name was “Anne Atitrada Chantachuwanichakun”, a friendly and polite young girl. Sadly, she was born with a disability in her sight due to macular degeneration causing her to have poor eyesight. But she has not let her eyesight prevent or limit her ability to live a normal life and spend time practicing music on the “guzheng”. Anne shared with us that she was inspired to play the guzheng when she heard Princess Chulapornwalailak play in the event “The Relationship of Two Lands”. She enjoyed the way the Princess led foreign listeners with the harmonious sound of the guzheng. After that, Anne’s father bought her a guzheng to play as a hobby. She began to practice learning and recognizing notes by ear with Master Li Yang, his students and Youtube. She has been practicing with these

methods until present. Anne also shared with us a little bit about her background mentioning that she grew up going to a regular school. In order to read the books she would use a magnifying glass to read each word letter by letter. She was very driven to pass her classes and graduate

family’s business selling souvenirs to tourists and still enjoys receiving invitations to play the guzheng in various events. Anne said she sometimes feels down, but doesn’t want her feelings to get in the way of anything. She mentioned that she doesn’t want to feel like someone who is weak and disabled causing a burden to both family and society, but rather she pushes herself past these limitations to feel self-worth and live a normal life. I would like to encourage readers through Anne’s story that no matter what troubles you are facing to push forward through your weaknesses to the best of your ability and in due time the good things that you’ve hoped for will be yours.

SOCIAL PHUKET DRINK DON'T DRIVE P3D PROJECT

On December 28th 2016 at 6:00 P.M, Mr. Chokchai Detamornthan the Governor of Phuket was the main speaker in the combined events “2017 New Year’s Festival and “Phuket Drink Don’t Drive (P3D) campaign”. The events hosted the crowds of people including government officials, local organization authorities, school faculty and students who joined in the campaign walk on Bangla Rd in Patong. The walk finished at Jungceylon Shopping Mall where the event organized many various activities regardingland and sea transportation safetyas well as New Year’s Festivities. This campaign was set in accordance with Phuket’s aim towards lowering both sea and land transportation accidents and ultimately injury and casualty rates in Phuket.

A MORE CREATIVE CONCLUSION AT LOMA FOOD CENTER RENOVATION @ PATONG

The prolonged conflict between the Patong Town Municipality and the group of sellers at the Loma Food Center has continued to falter for months due to continued disagreement. On the municipality’s side, their reason to expedite renovation is that their budget has already been approved by the Municipality Council and must be initiated promptly in order to maintain their budget illegibility. As for the group of sellers, they are adamantly opposing the renovation that will close down the space for their sales and in result put their families in jeopardy. Are Patong locals really unable to live in community in a manner

that benefits each other? It’s not important who’s asking but rather whether “the Mayor of Patong” will listen or not!! The results from the meeting set between both parties regarding the conflict at the Patong Town Municipality on December 8th should reveal a clear answer from the mayor herself. “The municipality will begin renovation on the Loma Food Center to open a community and conference center intended to become a Patong landmark through a design inspired by the “Micro Moth sailboat”; the very first boat that King Rama 9 built and is a commemorated to his visit to Phuket in 1967.

As for the group of sellers at the Loma Food Center, the municipality will permit sales until April 30th 2017 before renovation begins. Once the renovation is completed, the new design will allow space for the group of sellers to continue their sales as usual. This proposal was gladly accepted by the majority of the group of sellers and will be recorded and presented to the governor as well” This is the summary given by Ms. Chalermlak Kepsap the Mayor of Patong Town when asked by news reporters waiting outside the meeting hall. ebuting Thai Tourism with “Google Street View” Google Thailand partners with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to debut photos of the “Andaman islands” in a 360 degree panoramic street view. The aim of this service is to allow tourists from all over the world to see the beauty and variety of nature in Thailand. Mr. Plernpit Muenpol, the Director of the Information Technology Offices under the Tourism Authority of Thailand was the main speaker at the debut of the first set of 360 degree panoramic street view photos by Google. The photos taken will be available for Thai and foreign tourists alike interested in viewing the beauty and variety of nature as well as the lifestyle of local fisherman in the Andaman Islands including Tachai Island, Mai Thon Island, Surin Islands and Similan Islands. Mr. Michael Chittawanit, the Head of Marketing at Google Thailand shared that the fact that Google chose Phuket Province as the very first debut of “Google Street View” shows the level of importance Google gives to tourism in Thailand. That being said, there are 3 key reasons why Google has focused on improving tourism information. 1. Thailand is a country with a tourist entry amount of over 30 million people per year. Statistics

Surin Islands Phang Nga

These islands are also known as “The Superstar Spots” among diving enthusiasts in Thailand for their vast variety of both hard and soft coral reefs and sea life. Diving exhibitions include shallow water diving at Mai Ngam Beach, Suthep Bay, Mae Yai Bay, Pachumba Island and Mangorn Island. For deep water diving enthusiasts, the exceptional Richelieu Rock area is filled with naturally well fed coral and sea life including camel shrimp, lobster, mollusks, seahorses and if your extra lucky you may find yourself swimming aside Thailand’s superstar the whale shark!

Lipe Island – Jabang Channel Satun

Tao Island Surat Thani

Chumphon Islands Chumphon When it comes to diving, most will look past Chumphon which is really quite a pity because the Chumphon area of the Thai Bay offers a long string of 41 Islands that are filled with beautiful diving spots all along the way.Some of the best spots include Ngam Noi Island, Ngam Yai Island, Lak Ngam Island and Hin Pae Island for starters. At these spots, tourists will experience the beauty of blooming sea flowers and if lucky perhaps the chance to swim with whale sharks near both Ngam Yai and Ngam Lek Island.

Rok Island Krabi

This island has earned the nickname “Queen of the Andaman”. Anyone looking for a spectacular sightseeing spot and clear divingexperience while still providing a peaceful atmosphere, Rok Island is an excellent option. The sea here is a clear light blue revealing its surrounding coral reefs. Depending on the weather, the sea color will change as it naturally reflects the sun’s rays. On a sunshiny day, the rays will gloriously pierce the seas surface casting shadows beneath of any objects floating above. In addition, the reefs here are so beautiful you won’t want to get out of the water as various assortments of fish parade around you including the lovely “Nemo fish” that will leave you with an experience you’ll never forget. The tourist spots mentioned above are only a small portion of the many diving spots here in Thailand. 素叻他尼府的涛岛涛岛算得上是泰国湾赫赫有名的“明星”岛屿，世界各地的潜水爱好者们都想来这里亲身感受。这里的珊瑚群超过8公里长，宽200 多米，软珊瑚和硬珊瑚交错生长，各种各样的海鱼在清澈的海水中游弋。值得关注的潜水地有辛翁海湾、紫色海湾、南园海湾、深水海湾和鲨鱼海湾等。

春蓬府春蓬群岛提到潜水人们往往会忽略春蓬群岛，真是错过了泰国湾上极美的潜水地。因为春蓬群岛包含41 个岛屿，有很多处完美的潜水地，如安暖岛、安颜岛、拉安岛和辛佩

เกาะเต่ า จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ ธานี

หมู่เกาะชุมพร จังหวัดชุมพร

MUANG BADAN @ KANCHANABURI

I n t h e y e a r 1 9 8 4 , Th e Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand built a mountain pitched dam known as the Wachira Chulalongkorn Dam which due to its collection of water caused flooding in old town Sangkhla Buri and the temple. The temple was then relocated on top of a hill while the ruins of the old temple and nearby housing have remained underwater for several decades.

DRUG ABUSE T he survey results from the Offices of National Statistics show that Thai citizens are satisfied with the government’s efforts for both the prevention and problem solving of narcotic d r u g a bu s e . How e v e r, citizens are still expecting poverty caused by drug abuse in the community to continually lower.” The Ministry of Justice has made an increase in policies aimed towards affectively solving drug abuse problems with offensive approaches using the “citizens”as the key tool. The policies integrate and unify the efforts of the capital, regional and local governments with the citizens in order to solve drug abuse at a community level. Mr. Narong Ratananugul, the Chief Secretary at the A nt i - Na r c o t i c s D r u g s Control Center Phuket Town District (A.N.D.C) shared that the ANDC has partnered with the police, military and authorities to initiate the “Front House Safety

of Encouragement

Joseph . . . whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”), sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet. Acts 4:36–37 An old Merle Haggard song, “If We Make It Through December,” tells the story of a man laid off from his factory job with no money to buy Christmas gifts for his little girl. Although December is supposed to be a happy time of year, his life seems dark and cold. Discouragement is not unique to December, but it can be amplified then. Our expectations may be higher, our sadness deeper. A little encouragement can go a long way. Joseph, a man from Cyprus, was among the early followers of Jesus. The apostles called him Barnabas, which means “son of encouragement.” We meet him in Acts 4:36–37 when he sold a piece of property and donated the money to help other believers in need. Later, we read that the disciples were afraid of Saul (Acts 9:26). “But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles” (v. 27). Saul, later called Paul, had formerly been trying to kill the believers, but Barnabas defended him as a man transformed by Christ. All around us are people longing to be encouraged. A timely word, a phone call, or a prayer can bolster their faith in Jesus. The generosity and support of Barnabas demonstrate what it means to be a son or daughter of encouragement. That may be the greatest gift we can give to others this Christmas. Thank You, Lord, for the gift of encouragement. BDMS Southern Group Welcomes Kajonkiet International School Phuket Airport marks “Aviation Safety Zone” at Mai Khao Beach

huket Airport has marked the “Aviation Safety Zone” on Mai Khao Beach in the landing strip entry zone (09) in response to flight safety regulations. The regulations are set in order to prevent harm to both the lives and property of tourists and travelers alike. This is because the area has become a popular spot for tourists interested in taking photos with the planes landing overhead. Due to the tourists proximately to the landing planes, injury caused by the planes jet stream is considered possible. In addition, various prohibited acts by tourists including lighting sky lanterns, shining light in the sky, use of laser pointers etc. which are against aviation disturbance regulations set in 2015 Sec. 6(3) by Royal law administering 5-20 years in prison, life in prison or even capital punishment. Land marks for the “Aviation Safety Zone” on Mai Khao Beach in thelanding strip entry zone (09) are as follows. Install barbed wire along the outside of the fence in front of the landing strip 09 approximately 250 meters long. Install 3 “restricted area” signs sized at 1.8 X 0.6 meters. 3.Install 3 “jet blast” signs sized at 1.8 X 1.2 meters. 4.Install 3 “dangerous area no entry” signs sized at 1.22 X 0.6 meters. 5.Install 2 “photography prohibited without prior permission” signs sized at 1.22 X 0.6 meters. 6.Install Alert Notification System for “Aviation Safety Zone”. 4 Mai Khao Beach sets in order to notify tourists and travelers alike

of the measures needed to maintain safety including the fines enforced in the case that danger is caused to the planes. The Alert Notification Systems will provide information every 30 minutes in 3 languages including Thai, English and Chinese. In addition, the Phuket Airport has coordinated with the District Prefect of Thalang in order to fund a neighborhood safety team to advice and inform the local tourists mentioned. The “Aviation Safety Zone” land is under the authority of the Phuket Airport and has no effect regarding the public land surrounding the landing strip entry zone on Mai Khao Beach which is thereby under the authority of Sirinat National Park and open for tourists, travelers and citizens alike.

i n c e M y a n m a r ’s opening up and political adjustments we have seen many continual positive affects towards their economy as well. This economic growth has given international investors the confidence to invest in various Myanmar businesses showing potential. Tourism business is just one of these investor attractive businesses. The past 2 -3 years have truly been a golden time for Myanmar tourism. In 2012, over 1 million tourists visited Myanmar created a profit of $534 million U.S (about 1.6 billion Baht) a 67% increase in tourist entry. Tourists visiting are in majority Asian such as Chinese, Thai, Malaysian, South Korean and Japanese. The average tourist length of stay is 11 days with a daily spending increase of 25% without including tourists crossing the border. “D u e to My an mar being closed for so long, it has therefore become an exclusive tourism spot with a vast number of nature sightseeing spots that present a variety of experiences for tourists alike.” The Myanmar government has set a goal for their tourism industry to push forward the economy at a 7% yearly growth rate. This goal will in result press forward the development of tourism services, locations, transportation and hotels. “ Th e o b l i g a t i o n t o increase the number of standardized hotels in order to receive and accommodate future tourism growth” is becoming an important issue for Myanmar at this point. Official information for Myanmar reveals that currently there are 36 foreign invested hotels some of which are still under construction. These hotels account for 28,291 rooms, however only 1 in 4 of these rooms are set at international standard. Therefore Myanmar has begun collaborating plans

Th o u g h t h e r e are many business opportunities opening up in Myanmar there is still a lack of information needed in order to decide investments s u c h a s pr i n c ip a l f or large investments and laws regarding business framework. However, trends are pointing towards an overall improvement in the next few years ahead. 发。”缅甸政府给本国旅游业设下了目标：每年推动经济发展同比增长 7%。所以缅甸大力提高员工素质，着重旅游胜地、运输系统和酒店业的发展。 “目前缅甸旅游业最突显的问题是急需建设足够的酒店来满足游客的需求，以及准备迎接未来更多的游客。” 根据缅甸酒店和旅游部的数据来看，目前缅甸境内接待游客的住所（酒店、旅店和招待所）共有731处，合计25,002个房间。这些住所中的187处（共6,855个房间）都在仰光。下属省份中曼德勒有75处（共2,008个房间），蒲甘有75处（共 2,008个房间）。其中大部分住所是本地企业家所建的，规模不大，平均每处住所仅有20至30个房间。由外国投资者所建的中等住所平均有160至170个房间。至于超过300个房间的大型住所仅有5处，其余的还在建设阶段。 “从数据上看，缅甸仍缺少能接待高端游客的住所，这是值得泰国投资者们关注的机会，特别是泰国的投资者们对旅游业及旅游相关产业十分在行。” 尽管在缅甸有很多的商业机会，但目前缅甸境内的基础设施建筑还不完善，旅游胜地的土地价格增高，涉及到商业的法律还不够明确。不过可以预计在未来的2至3年一切会向好的方向发展。所以，错过这段黄金时期的投资者们在未来一定会遇到更多的竞争者。
