Visage by Attasit Pokpong at La Lanta Fine Art Gallery
The exhibition belongs to Attasit’s ongoing "Portrait" series of surreal images of beautiful young women each against monochromatic backgrounds. The new series one of the artist’s most celebratory and exciting works to-date, painted in his iconic Neo-Pop colour palette and signature cropped, close-up composition. The women’s docile expression invites one to gaze upon their visage, as if recalled from a memory or dream. Their gentle expression is in dynamic contrast to their sublime face and their perfectly painted ultra-vivid lips. About Attasit Pokpong Attasit belongs to a new generation of Contemporary SE Asian artists who are making their mark throughout Asia and now Europe and the U.S. The artist received his Diploma in Art from Rajamonkala Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. In 2009, Attasit had a major exhibition in Shanghai, China followed by another exhibition in Paris, France. His unique style has attracted considerable international attention, prompting additional exhibitions in Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France, the U.K., in Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand), Australia as well as in New York and Los Angeles. Rebel Art Space Presents Compilation: A Salon Installation by Vasan Sitthiket 11th October - 30th November Opening Reception Saturday, 11th October: Beginning 6pm
Rebel Art Space will present an exhibition of over 150 artworks by Vasan Sitthiket as a salon installation throughout the gallery's five levels. The exhibition entitled Compilation, will open at Rebel Art Space on Saturday the 11th of October, 2014. An opening reception will be held on the same day beginning at 6:00pm, with a contemporary dance performance by artist Sai Wannaphon Chimbangchong. With artworks ranging in medium and spanning various stages in his career from the 1990's to recent times, Compilation gives visitors a rare opportunity to view a wide cross-section of Vasan's work side-by-side. Vasan's artworks are known to be direct and outspoken. Often using a vibrant palette, Vasan's treatment of the subject matter at hand often veers towards the outlandish with a complete disregard for propriety. The artist gives justification to the provocative nature of his work as his form of radical rebellion to champion causes he feels strongly about. While Vasan's oeuvre also shows a friendlier side to his personality with series about nature and sex, it is the directness and fearlessness in a career spanning over three decades which has made him one of Thailand's most prominent and internationally recognised artists. Vasan Sitthiket was born in 1957 in Nakhorn Sawan, Thailand, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from the College of Fine Art, Bangkok in 1981. The artist spends his time between Bangkok and his studio in Nakhorn Sawan. Rebel Art Space is located in a small cul-de-sac 60 metres from the beginning of Sukhumvit Soi 67.
