Hard to believe the light show was introduced to the public 25 years ago! Pierce County Parks vision was to create an affordable, unique, family program appealing to all ages while showcasing one of our amazing parks. “As a regional provider of recreation programs, Pierce County Parks is always looking for opportunities to bring residents together to build community spirit and enhance our quality of life. With the variety of strong public and private partnerships, volunteer support, numerous visitors, and the tremendous excitement that builds throughout the year, Fantasy Lights is clearly a holiday favorite in Pierce County,” said Scott Hall, Deputy Director. The combination of owned displays & new displays built locally by Bates & Clover Park Technical Colleges and Rogers High School bring it all together. During the summer months the displays come out of storage for new welds, while others may need to be rewrapped with light string, repainted, or require new garland. In October, the park is transformed including erecting and securing the displays, installing over four miles of curb lighting, placing arches over the road, decorating trees and bushes with lights, connecting power sources, replacing light bulbs and making sure all the controller programs are sequenced properly. Parks staff have been replacing incandescent lighting with LED to decrease the event’s carbon footprint. Thanks to the partnership with Pierce County Planning & Public Works over 85% of the park has been converted to LED with a goal of complete conversion by 2020.

Cascade Golfer listed Lake Spanaway Golf Course as Best Conditioned local municipality course in it’s August 2019 edition, stating "For pure course conditions, it's hard to top Lake Spanaway. Seven hundred pounds of sand beneath the fairways help it drain better than nearly any other Western Washington track, while course staff work double-time throughout the summer to keep Lake Spanaway looking just as green and vibrant. It's the kind of course that does a high volume of rounds due to its broad appeal and outstanding conditions."
