New group salutes Filipino women

WINNIPEG – A group of Filipino women met in December 2015 and agreed that it was time to recognize the needs, strengths and potentials of Filipino women in the community. From this meeting the idea of Pinays MB Inc. was born and the organization was officially formed on January 6, 2016. On Saturday, March 12, 2016, Pinays MB will host a Recognition Luncheon at the Skyview Ballroom of the Marlborough Hotel. The purpose of the event is three-fold: to officially launch Pinays MB Inc., to celebrate International Women’s Day and to recognize two outstanding women who made significant contributions to the growth of the Filipino community in Manitoba. The two honourees are: The late Mrs. Carolina Custodio who was instrumental in bringing groups of garment workers from the Philippines to Manitoba ca.

OTTAWA – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister John McCallum introduced legislation on February 25 to amend the Citizenship Act, reversing measures brought in by the Conservatives last year that made it tougher to become a Canadian citizen – and easier for the government to strip certain Canadians of their citizenship.
