29 June 2016 | Mr. Mohammad Faizal Razali, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission paid courtesy visit to PIM and continued outlining practical approaches to Thai and Malay academic collaboration.

Officials from the Royal Thai Embassy, Kathmandu, Nepal, visit Charoen Pokphand (CPF) and PIM On 24 May 2016, five representatives from Royal Thai Embassy, Kathmandu, Nepal led by Mr. Chakraphan Yuwari visited Charoen Pokphand (CPF) and PIM.

Top representatives from CPF Mr. Prasit Chalongchaichan, Senior Vice President and Dr. Payungsak S. Tanagul, Vice President Technical Service – Poultry Integration welcomed the government officials based in Nepal and presented the company profile. Dr. Payungsak then gave a short talk on CPF’s success factors in achieving sustainability in poultry production. He was followed by a live broadcast of a chicken farm from Saraburi province by Mr. Supachai Thaokumleu, Assistant Vice President.

After the presentations, the delegation proceeded to one of CPF’s chicken processing factory and slaughter house. Several CPF and PIM representatives accompanied the delegation to determine initial ways to work together.

She added that CP ALL and PIM work in tandem to perform market research to determine current and future trends and look into how education can support and facilitate human and economic growth.

South African Thai Chamber of Commerce & Pure Growth Asia Co., Ltd. pay courtesy visit to PIM On 21 April 2016, Mr. Ragil Ratnam, Vice Chairman of South African Thai Chamber of Commerce visited PIM and expressed his interest in PIM’s study model, commenting that Thailand needs more universities similar to PIM that grooms leaders for Thailand’s service industries which currently faces a shortage of skilled staff. Mr. Ragil, also CEO of Pure Growth Asia Co., LTD which offers programs on talent management, leadership

4development, and executive coaching, added that PIM is the right choice for those who covet to gain professional experience because of the abundant network and opportunities provided to students. During the discussion, potential opportunities were identified for PIM to expand its network in Africa, which is growing to become a primary choice for international investors.

PIM begins official partnership with Massey University The tenth of June 2016 marked a significant date for both Massey University and PIM as both institutions celebrated the official ceremony of the much anticipated partnership at the PIM campus. The memorandum of understanding covers activities related to the exchange of faculty, research staff, and students; identification of other areas of possible interest and collaboration; and general promotion of each other’s institutions. Representing Massey University were Mr. Stuart Morriss, Assistant Vice-Chancellor Operations, International and University Registrar; Prof. Claire Massey, Director, Agrifood Business; and Assoc. Prof. Johan Potgeiter, School of Engineering & Advanced Technology.

Device Myanmar includes visit to PIM in staff development program A delegation from Device Myanmar Co., Ltd led by Mr. Tin Zan Kyaw, Managing Director visited PIM on 19 May 2016 to discuss future collaboration opportunities.

Mr. Tin Zan Kyaw complimented PIM’s core vision and mission, noting how different the institute is from other organizations of higher learning. The discussion covered how Device Myanmar and PIM could begin developing successful philosophies. Possible academic collaboration could include the development of degree options and faculty/student exchanges through the study abroad program and government business

training courses together to be implemented in Myanmar. Dr. Usanee Kulintornprasert, Director, Office of International Relations, said that short courses and training programs could be some projects to implement together in the future.

Fontys University explores potential collaborative plans Fontys’ representatives see future collaboration with PIM’s Faculty of Education and Satit PIM during visits in April and May 2016. Dr. Thomas Merz, Managing Director, Fontys International Business School and teacher training expert Mr. John van Lare, Taskforce Manager, International Education Projects, expressed their enthusiasm at PIM’s work based education system, a system that is also well-respected in the Netherlands. Mr. John discussed the innovative educational advancements at Fontys specifically the “future classroom 2020”, a project which aims to bring multimedia and face to face teaching together with an open learning center, in order to reach the highest potential of their students. Further discussions covered possible professor and student exchanges. Mr. John encouraged PIM students to consider being an exchange student in Holland as one way to apply work-based learning and exchanges. Prior to this visit, Ms. Linda Huskes, who is responsible for international affairs and cooperation visited PIM on 1 April 2016 to discuss future educational collaboration with PIM’s Faculty of Education. Guangdong University of Foreign Studies expresses interest in sending exchange students and interns to PIM Two professors from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GUFS), one of the first universities in China to offer Thai language program 40 years ago, visited PIM on 25 May 2016. Assoc. Prof. Luo Yi Yuan, Vice Dean, Faculty of Asian Languages & Cultures expressed that she hopes to send students to join PIM programs as exchange students and interns. She also mentioned that GUFS can co-develop a dual-degree program with PIM’s international program in modern trade. She was accompanied by Ms. Wu Sheng Yang, Director,

Thai Language Department, GUFS. PIM’s Mr. Pollasak Ruongpanyaroj, Executive Director, Office of President invited GUFS to join short course programs. Mr. Adirek Nuansri of PIM’s Faculty of Education said that GUFS students are welcome to explore working with the Faculty of Education as research associates.

CP Korea learns PIM’s unique education system Mr. Kim Woo Young, CP Korea’s representative from the food service sector discussed with PIM executives and CP ALL representatives’ possibilities for future collaboration on 18 May 2016. He noted looking forward to maximizing PIM channels to export Korean products to Thailand. Internships in CP Korea for PIM students can be explored while the researchers and scientists based in the Institute can be tapped to perform research and development for CP Korea.

FPT, through its corporate university, and PIM has seen efforts for academic collaboration come to fruition in 2016 with three students from PIM joining a three-month internship program in FPT’s headquarters in Hanoi, Vietnam. This is the first program of many possible activities for international partnership. The three students were immersed as global interns in FPT software where they were given

opportunities to work on actual software development projects and interact with international clients. Spearheading this program is PIM’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology represented by Dr. Wanvipa Wongvilaisakul and Dr. Nattakarn Phapoom. They noted that the students returned to PIM exuding more confidence in their technical and communication skills.

They attended a special orientation covering an overview of the CP Group, CP ALL, and PIM on 23 May 2016.

Dayeh University and Hwa Hsia University, Taiwan joins PIM’s short course on Thailand business and culture A six-day short course featuring fundamental concepts about business and culture in Thailand was customized for a group of talented students from Dayeh University and Hwa Hsia University from Taiwan in April 2016.

Twenty-five qualified students from Taiwan attended PIM’s short course from 24 to 29 April in order to learn approaches in international business and culture in Thailand. The orientation ceremony was held at the CP ALL Academic Building on 27 April 2016.This program offered Thai basic language class, cooking class, business and management lectures, cultural exposure trips and company visits Students were provided many useful business ideas and experiences by visiting companies such as Uni-President in Nakhon Pathom Province and

Thai President Foods in Chonburi Province. The group also visited landmarks in Thailand such as Asiatique, the Grand Palace, and Pattaya. Students enjoyed learning Thai cultural activities such as traditional dance and folk games. During the farewell dinner, which was celebrated in a cruise along the Chao Phraya River, the participants expressed their appreciation to PIM for arranging this short course and shared their experiences during this six-day program.

University of Technology MARA returns to PIM Over 30 students visit PIM as part of their annual study tour in Thailand on 22 April 2016. Led by Dr. Mior Harris Bin Mior Harun, the students of University of Technology Mara, Malaysia were welcomed back to PIM. The first half of the program was an introduction of CP Group, CP ALL, and PIM. The second half of the program was a lively and enthusiastic discussion filled with great interest from students regarding

PIM’s work-based education and CP’s business and operation. Students inquired on scholarships, doing business in Thailand, and possibilities for employment at CP. Officials from the Malaysian Embassy Commission also joined in the program.

Mr. Mana provided an overview and shared some of PIM’s current undertakings and activities. The delegation also visited the flagship 7-Elevent located at PIM to observe some of CP ALL’s award-winning store management processes and innovative products.
