Why 150 CC? From Chief Editor's Desk TM Sachin Gajare, LD1 Chief Editor, The GIST Referring to Otto Cycle learnt during the engineering a decade ago, in the engine mass of fuel is subjected to changes of pressure, temperature, volume, addition and removal of heat and thus fuel energy is converted into kinematic energy to propel the vehicle. The Pimpri Toastmasters Club very resembles this with 18th century marvel- ‘Engine’, where members are subjected to supportive and positive learning experience to develop the communication and leadership skills which results in the greater self-confidence and personal growth. Also, as an engine that grows bigger and delivers more power with the count of CC it is made of, our club is growing promisingly together with its toastmasters. There is no stopping back ever since we started the journey in January 2017 as a Club. Now the PTMC has reached to 150th milestone meeting. During this journey of 3 years, it has created many memories which are reminiscent in every member’s heart. We have tried to recollect the memories of past 6 months in this newsletter. This newsletter reflects "The Gist" of each member of PTMC. I take this opportunity to thank every member of PTMC for creating remarkable memories and to the newsletter team who put their efforts to collect these memories and present in form of newsletter! I am sure you all will love this newsletter. Experience PTMC journey! Enjoy!

Never Stop Improving From President's Desk TM Chandra Sekhar, DL4 President, Jul - Dec 19
'You need an attitude of service. You're not just serving yourself. You help others to grow up and you grow with them.' - David Green My Toastmaster’s journey started in the year 2018 at Pimpri Toastmasters Club. I had the privilege of being the Vice President-Public Relation for the Club in my previous tenure, but the role of club President presented myriad of learning opportunities and demonstrating as lead of the club. Serving as the President of the club involves many duties and responsibilities, and I very much liked taking them up with zeal and enthusiasm, because they teach us so many things in a very short span of time. We organized many sessions to help club members learn various aspects of communication and leadership apart from regular meetings. Instead of focusing on our weakness and minimizing or overcoming them toastmasters program works by helping us to identify and build our strengths. The faith and trust shown by club members to the Club and Executive committee has encouraged us to work harder for achieving higher laurels for the club at Toastmasters International. During this tenure the Club conducted multiple educational sessions covering a lots of speaking and leadership aspects. Adding to this, we had record participation for the club contests, which showed the club’s exuberance. I am grateful to our senior members, Area Director, Division Director, Club mentors, and Sponsors for being the lighthouse when we needed guidance. My fellow toastmasters, let us each commit to developing our own personal vision. If we have the conviction that a dream can be achieved, we can inspire others to do the same. Your vision carries the seeds of your future successes. Start planting them today.

Keep Shining and Keep Excelling From Division Director TM Harshad Khiera CC, ALB, VC3 From the time I visited Pimpri Toastmasters club as a member from different club and then got an opportunity to work with club closely as area director and now as division director, I see club is setting up bar high and high as I visit the club. Member's experience, is the key thing which is very well incorporated in all meetings of PTMC and this is true for all members who visit from other clubs. Whenever I visit club, I see joy, happiness and positivity around. Diversity of members and still unity and the way environment of the club is, just can't be expressed in words. This club is a classic example of the number really says how the club is performing. This club never missed on diamond club, club excellence awards and of course milestone meetings. One of the best PR activities and milestone meetings are at the best. Club has given many great leaders to district like TM Pramod Kiwande, DTM Vinod Sharma and also members in Ex-Com and club went beyond boundaries to support other clubs and district initiatives. Challenges are meant to overcome and since the time club was looking for role players and evaluator to the time club has 5 speech slots and evaluator from self club, club runs in self sustain mode. Best practices followed like Dronacharya series for education session and Kaun Banega Chocolatepati (KBC) ensured members get maximum learning. I can write a lot but I feel what I experience, I suggest you also must experience by visiting club and you can continue to what I wrote already. Congratulations club and members on this milestone and many more to come. I would like to thank club for giving me an opportunity to express my thoughts about the club. Keep Shining and Keep Excelling!

Exclusive Interview with DTM Vinod Sharma 1st Runner-up for Humorous Speech Contest at Area Level DTM Vinod Sharma Give us a brief background about your journey with Toastmasters? DTM Vinod: I Joined Toastmasters when I needed the most. It was September 2014. It took 4-6 meetings to understand the whole process. Once I understood then it’s never look back for me. You made PTMC club & its members proud by winning the 1st position at Club Level and 1st runner up at Area Level for Humorous Speech Contest 2019. How did you feel representing PTMC at Area Level? DTM Vinod: During my tenure of 5 year, I never got chance to contest in any format. I was mostly busy in leadership roles from Club level till District 98. I completed leadership roles by concluding Eloquence 2019. I am member of two best Clubs. Pimpri TMC and TMCP NW. It was indeed and fantastic experience to contest at Club and Area Level. This is totally different and good experience. And I also suggest all members whenever you get chance to contest, never miss the opportunity. Does humour comes naturally to you or does it require a thorough preparation to deliver the punch timely? DTM Vinod: It takes lot of efforts to deliver
humorous speeches. One important point is that we must be very careful about jokes or humour we are creating. Delivery of the speech plays important role for effective Humorous speeches. According to you, how is Humorous Speech different than the regular speeches? What preparation you did before the contest? DTM Vinod: Any speech requires lot of preparation and delivery. Every speech has its own objectives and purpose. It takes lot of efforts to deliver humorous speeches. In regular, you have to deliver speech but in humorous speech you have to be ready what if audience don't laugh. What if punch doesn’t work. In both the cases, you have to prepare a lot. I enjoy both types of speeches. What message would you like to convey to other fellow toastmasters when it comes to writing a humorous speech? DTM Vinod: Watch funny and witty programs. Observe people while they talk or do actions. Read comics. Do whatever you want to do. But if we are writing or targeting someone in our humorous speech do not forget to take permission from that person. Overall, it was great experience to contest from Pimpri Toastmasters Club, the club I am proud of. 9
Exclusive Interview with TM Krishnaprasad Paralikar 1st Runner-up for Speech Evaluation Contest at Area Level TM Krishnaprasad Paralikar Give us a brief background about your journey with Toastmasters? TM Krishnaprasad: I attended my first ever toastmasters meeting, as a guest, in December 2017. Incidentally, it was Pimpri club’s 50th meeting – Pachas Tola meeting. Later, I joined Toastmasters club of Pune Northwest on 01-Jan-2018 and my TM journey started. For first 3 months, till March2018 end, I did nothing. Just attended the meetings, participated in few table topics, but otherwise did nothing. So, if in case you are taking time to start, don’t worry, it happens. Meanwhile, we were working on starting a new club in my organization – KPIT. The club was started in April 2018, and I was a founder member in it. Our first club meeting happened on 11-Apr-2018 and I was the first prepared speaker in it. I delivered my ice breaker in KPIT auditorium in front of 150+ people. It was a great experience. And then rest is history! Now, I am back at PTMC. Is it like completing a full circle? You made PTMC club & its members proud by winning 1st position at Club Level and 1st Runner Up at Area Level for Speech Evaluation contest 2019. How did you feel representing PTMC club at Area Level?
TM Krishnaprasad: I was really happy to win evaluation contest at club level and to represent PTMC at the area level. When represented PTMC at Area level, I ensured that I did my best. I was pretty confident about my evaluation skills, but I could never be complacent. I am very happy that I came out as 1st runner up in that contest. According to you what are the key aspects for evaluating a speech? What does it take to evaluate a speech critically yet effectively and impactful? TM Krishnaprasad: Hmmm…. Evaluation speech is a speech in first place. So, it needs to have all those components of a speech, i.e.,opening, body and closing. The only catch here is, you almost prepare your evaluation speech on the fly. Thus, your decision making needs to be fast and correct as far as possible. The essence of evaluation is very important to the speaker. He must find some takeaway in your evaluation. But the whole thing is important to the whole audience as well. So, when you evaluate talk to audience at large and not to the speaker. The guideline to evaluation speech is simple– Commend, recommend and commend again! So, never deviate from this simple guideline. 10
What effort you put in to prepare before the contest & during the contest? TM Krishnaprasad: For me, evaluation speech contest is just another evaluation you do. And, as I said in my earlier answer, you can’t decide on the evaluation unless
You participated for the Club Level and Area Level contests. How did you counter the pressure of such big stage? TM Krishnaprasad: As I said above, I really enjoyed being part of Club as well as Area contests. It was fun time to be in those

There is no point in getting overwhelmed by the occasion of the contests. You need to back yourself and your instincts at any point of team. You should be calm at heart and at

TM Krishnaprasad: Do not over prepare yourself, because anyway you can’t! When it comes to preparing for evaluation speech contest, most of the preparation happens at the contest. Listen carefully, take notes of most important points and then use the 5 minutes of preparation time effectively. Prepare your complete evaluation speech in your mind, even before you deliver it. Generally, it is said that 'seeing is believing', but my take on evaluation speech is “What you believe, people will see!”.So, trust your instincts and deliver the best evaluation speech.

The 5 PM Success Club Own Your Saturday Evening to Elevate Your Communication & Leadership Skills
TM Manu Nair, DL2 My official Toastmasters journey with the 5 PM Success Club started 5 months back in June 2019. I was given a warm reception in the Pimpri Toastmasters Club (PTMC) by one and all. I remember TM Vijendra Jain & TM Pramod Kiwande welcoming me in the PTMC family emphasizing “Finally” you have joined our Whatsapp group. TM Vijendra also remembered that I had attended my 1st meeting as a Guest around the 50th Chapter Meeting. The surprise expressed by some members was understandable as I probably held the dubious record of attending most meetings as guest. I had also gone to witness the Division Speech Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contest as Guest in Infosys, Hinjewadi and Amdocs, Magarpatta. At one point in time before joining the club, I was attending meetings with such regularity as PTMC Guest that I was no longer asked to introduce myself as guest. The immediate past President TM Aashirwad Gupta also referred to me once as “Permanent Guest”. Being an eternal optimist, I took the remark as a “compliment” but at the same time decided to join soon. In my 5 months long association with the club, I have played all the meeting roles available for taking and have recently completed Level 2 of my Dynamic Leadership Pathways track. I have also grabbed opportunities from other clubs to play different roles and had joined our VP Education Toastmaster Vinod Basalalli and Toastmaster Shivkumar Vibhute for the live screening of Toastmasters World Championship Public Speaking at BMC Software, Yerwada. All meeting role plays have helped me hone my Communication Skills and I am living the learning paradox stated by Great Albert Einstein: 'The more I learn is the more I realize how much I don’t know anything at all.' The nuggets of wisdom collected from attending Toastmasters Club meetings and connecting with the lively members has been priceless. I look forward to the new learning’s in store as I take up the new Mentoring role and as VP Membership of Club for the upcoming tenure Jan-Jun 2020. I take this opportunity to thank my mentor TM Vijendra Jain and all members for their contribution in helping me learn and grow. Let’s keep up the good work in our Saturday evening 5 PM Success Club and continue to drink from the fountain of knowledge. 12

When will I stop forgetting ! TM Saurabh Sinha How many of you have a habit of forgetting things? Well it happens a lot of time when you are engrossed into thick of things. On a normal office day you will forget socks, identity card, handkerchief, your pen, switch not switched off after pressing clothes, the list is endless. Well why does this happen? One of today's best-known memory researchers, Elizabeth Loftus, has identified four major reasons why people forget. She is an American cognitive psychologist and expert on human memory. She has conducted research on the malleability of human memory. She identifies forgetting into retrieval failure, interference, failure to store, and motivated forgetting. Before I move further into the details, I am recalling a personal incident from my life when one fine day on 9th Aug 2019, I had forgotten to fill petrol into my car. Well I have never been on an highway and my petrol car gives a meagre 10 – 11 km/liter and sometimes I feel like it drinks petrol. That morning it was already late and I left my home at 8:10 AM to reach my office at 8:30 AM, however just 200 meters before the main gate my car started to labour as if it has no oxygen – oops – no petrol ! It is a busy road near KSB Chowk. I stopped my car by the side of divider and started thinking of the possible solutions. Petrol pump was about a km and also I had not kept any bottle to bring it. I called my colleague if he could come and sit in the car so that I can go to bring petrol, but he had an urgent meeting and he suggested me to call the security team. I called the TML security team but initially they were not ready to send anyone citing that there is not enough force, but after persuading and talking with their senior they agreed to send one person. He came with a bottle. I handed him my car key and took the bottle from him, and asked him to look after car as I go to the nearby petrol pump. I reached the pump by using the number 11 vehicle in 10 minutes. But to my dismay they were not ready to give petrol in bottle. Well this is a good policy I too understood, so I decided not to persuade them. Instead I went to a person who was getting petrol in his bike, persuaded him to get 100 rupees petrol for me too and then we will transfer it into bottle. Voila! he agreed. Outside the petrol pump, he stopped, helped me fill petrol from his bike, in the bottle. I handed him 100 rupees. We exchanged numbers and then he went to his office. 13
For me it was already late, it was 9:30 by then. I took a shared auto and reached upto my car, filled petrol, thanked the security personnel, lifted him in my car and went to meet senior security official who helped me. Later I wrote a praising mail as well. Well this story was important to tell, because when we forget things we have to pay for it. I paid it by being late in the office. So it came as a lesson for me to be more structured and mindful in my work from future. Now coming back to science behind forgetting. First type of forgetting is retrieval failure. The inability to retrieve a memory is one of the most common causes of forgetting. One possible explanation of retrieval failure is known as decay theory. According to this theory, a memory trace is created every time a new theory is formed. Decay theory suggests that over time, these memory traces begin to fade and disappear. If the information is not retrieved and rehearsed, it will eventually be lost. Second type is forgetting due to interference. Interference theory suggests that some memories compete and interfere with other memories. When information is very similar to other information that was previously stored in memory, interference is more likely to occur. Third type of forgetting is due to our failure to store because it never made it into longterm memory in the first place. Encoding failures sometimes prevent information from entering long-term memory. Fourth type of forgetting is really of interest, as no one of you will disagree with this that we tend to forget things which are traumatic or disturbing events of our life. Well this is called motivated forgetting. But friends this is my request to you all please don’t forget your loved ones. Some people have the habit of forgetting marriage anniversaries for example. I will not comment if it is a motivated forgetting or not !! Oops! I touched an aching pulse. Hahaa.

Toastmasters Speaks TM Lokesh Kumar, EC2 It has almost been an year of a wonderful journey of learning and fun with Pimpri Toastmasters Club. I had joined Toastmasters with an objective of improving my communication skills, but the outcome seems to be way ahead of my expectations. In such a short span of time, not only my stage communication has improved but other aspects such as planning, organizing, self-confidence and leadership effectiveness are on a growth trajectory ever since. For effective communication it is important to align individual communication style with the audience. In this regard my interaction with members in PTMC really helped to understand diverse expectations of audience and adjust my communication style which suits to situation. Structured thought process and confidence makes communication clear, which is well demonstrated in club meetings. Table topic sessions which sharpens impromptu speaking skill has really made me to think fast and organize my thoughts quickly and communicate efficiently. Feedback sharing and mutual Learning is a great approach practiced extensively at Pimpri Toastmasters Club, which is really helpful in self-reflection and getting closer to oneself. Taking roles in club meetings develops planning and organizing skills which leads towards efficient and effective professional and personal life. I really liked the environment of our club specially healthy competition, transparency, supportive and encouraging nature of members makes it great. I am fortunate toget such start of my Leadership journey with Toastmasters and curious for roadahead.

Experience @ PTMC TM Pankaja Sampat I was acquainted to Toastmasters long back through my friends and relatives. But it took me sometime to actually attend a meeting. As a Professor in a medical college I thought I was good enough as a speaker on stage. I did not realize that I was only good at speaking on topics of same subject which I had been teaching for years thus keeping me in my comfort zone. It was only after I attended one of the Toastmaster meetings and participated in table topic session that I realized that how difficult it is to talk on a subject not prepared. That’s when I decided to be a part of Toastmasters to improve my impromptu speaking skills and also refine my public speaking talent. Ever since then there is no stopping or looking back as I am enjoying every moment being a part of Toastmasters at the Pimpri Toastmasters Club.
