G ATHERING IN THE P RESENCE OF THE R ISEN C HRIST

PRAYER OF PREPARATION

Almighty God, you heard the cries of your people and rescued them from the hands of their oppressors. You cared for them in the wilderness. In the life of Christ, you experienced that wilderness yourself. As we journey through our own wilderness, we give thanks that your Spirit sustains us and your love guides us. Amen.

ERHALT UNS, HERR

† PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep; we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts; we have offended against thy holy laws; we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought to not to have done, and there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto humankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen. † SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION

Because you made the most high your retreat, no disaster can come near your tent. For God has given the angels charge over you, they will guard you in all your ways. They will hold you in their hands, lest your foot be hurt by a stone. Refrain

“Wandering Days” The Rev. Seelman

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the Confession of 1967

The reconciling work of Jesus was the supreme crisis in the life of humankind. His cross and resurrection become personal crisis and present hope for all people when the gospel is proclaimed and believed. In this experience, the Spirit brings God’s forgiveness to all, moves people to respond in faith, repentance, and obedience, and initiates the new life in Christ.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM When You Pass Through the Waters

Paul D. Weber

Thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, who formed you, O Israel. Fear not, fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned; and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, I am the Lord your God, the Holy One, your Savior. Fear not, fear not, for I have redeemed you; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned; and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, I am the Lord your God, the Holy One, your Savior. Fear not, fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine, you are mine. Fear not; you are mine.
