PRAYER OF PREPARATION
O God, your Son Jesus set his face toward Jerusalem and did not turn from the way of the cross. Save us from timid minds that shrink from your call and prepare us to take up our own cross to follow in the way of our Lord. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP
One: When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, it was like a dream.
Many: Then our mouths were filled with laughter and shouts of joy.
One: Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
Many: The Lord has done great things for us, and we rejoiced.
One: Let those who plant with tears reap the harvest with joy.
Many: Let those who go out weeping come home with shouts of joy. Let us worship God!

† PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep; we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts; we have offended against thy holy laws; we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought to not to have done, and there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto humankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen. † SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
from the Confession of 1967
The reconciling work of Jesus was the supreme crisis in the life of humankind. His cross and resurrection become personal crisis and present hope for all people when the gospel is proclaimed and believed. In this experience, the Spirit brings God’s forgiveness to all, moves people to respond in faith, repentance, and obedience, and initiates the new life in Christ.
† THE PEACE
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Many: And also with you.
