G ATHERING IN THE P RESENCE OF THE R ISEN C HRIST

PRAYER OF PREPARATION

Eternal God, your kingdom has broken into our troubled world through the life, death, and resurrection of your Son. Help us to hear your word and obey it, that we may be instruments of your saving love. Amen.

VOLUNTARY Nocturne Op. 72, No. 1 in E Minor Frederic Chopin

(Please use the opening voluntary as a time of silent meditation and preparation for worship.)

SALUTATION

One: Let all who thirst come to the waters.

Many: Let all who are hungry come and eat.

CALL TO WORSHIP

One: My soul thirsts for my God.

Barb Neff

Many: My flesh faints for you as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

One: So I look to the Lord in the sanctuary, beholding God’s power and glory.

Many: Because your love is better than life, my lips will praise you all day long.

One: My soul is satisfied when I meditate in the watches of the night.

Many: For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.

One: My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

Many: So let us worship the God of our salvation!

† Those able are invited to stand Bold text is read or sung by all

† PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against thy holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought to not to have done, and there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare thou those who confess their faults, restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto humankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen. † SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION

The Lord is the Stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? (Refrain)

Greg Lane

When evil ones draw near to devour my flesh, they are the ones who waver and fall. Though an army camp against me, my trust will still be firm. (Refrain)

One thing I ask of the Lord, one thing I seek; to live in the house of God all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to pray in the temple; for in the day of trouble I am safe, hidden in the tent of God. (Refrain)

The Lord will keep me secure, Setting me firmly on a rock. Now my head is held up high above my foes who surround me. (Refrain)

Within God’s tent I offer thanks, a sacrifice of joy. I will sing a psalm of praise to the Lord, I will make melody to God. (Refrain)

SERMON

“Potentiality” Rev. Heather Sigler

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the Confession of 1967

The reconciling work of Jesus was the supreme crisis in the life of humankind. His cross and resurrection become personal crisis and present hope for all people when the gospel is proclaimed and believed. In this experience, the Spirit brings God’s forgiveness to all, moves people to respond in faith, repentance, and obedience, and initiates the new life in Christ.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM I Sought the Lord Ronald Turner I sought the Lord, and afterward, I knew He moved my soul to seek him, seeking me. It was not that I found, O Savior true; No, I was found of thee. Thou did reach forth thy hand and mine enfold. I walked and sank not on the troubled sea. 'Twas not so much I on thee took hold, As thou, dear Lord, on me. I find, I walk, I love, but O the whole of Love is but my answer, Lord, to thee. For thou wert long beforehand with my soul, always thou lovedst me.
