FIRE AND RESCUE STATION PROJECT Information from Jeerawan Boodsri l Pingpink l 49200010
INTRODUCTION Since the housing living characteristic along the Chao Phraya River and Canals with high dense of population is likely to create the public incidents any time which we have learned from the history of fire , floods , and also other accidents related to water. The officials, and citizens of Bangkok and peripheral provinces were made aware of the needs of its Fire and Rescue Boat Station. The research found that Samsen Fire and Rescue Station is the most appropriate station to provide fire boats and rescue boats according to the Main Fire and Rescue Department‟s plan. The reason is that the station can go to extinguish fire and rescue people along the waterfront area of Chao Phraya River and Bangkok Noi Canal that have poor or limited access by land ,and also support the new building parliament for security. The problem that prompted this research project was that Samsen Fire and Rescue Station at present is aging and has not been considered for the further development to respond the future needs of increasing responsibility and to support the surrounding society. Accordingly, the station needs to prepare the act of both marine and land rescue base. The purpose of refurbishment design project was to improve the operational efficiency of Samsen Fire and Rescue Station while regarding to public security.
BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE The living of Siamese Kingdom was related to the Chao Phraya River in which people located their settlements along the prosperous land and used the river for transportation. The tidal direction of river was swirling, which made the transportation inconvenient. The kings realized to solve this problem that canals must have been excavated to create shortcuts of Chao Phraya River. This helped the boat transportation save time. After that the expansion of people was scattered along the canals due to trading, and travelling by boats. When the time passed by the river tide was changed , the canals turned into a river , and the west bank of the river became canals in nowadays. City plan of housing is disorganized as the people at that time mostly used river transportation and did not considering the access by land. Increasing of population impacted the extension of housing along the river and canals. Waterfront communities became crowded , and many houses intruded on some parts of the river and canals made narrow access to get in. Meanwhile living along the Chao Phraya River and Canals could create unexpected public incidents whether caused by nature or human such as fire , flood , and other disasters that cause physical harm to people , or damage to public property , stated from Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department. Thereby, fire boats and rescue boats become crucial to the waterfront city.

STATION BECOMES GREEN The building has been designed as a bridge structure to do the continuous space of both stations , and in addition of a park atmosphere to the fire station itself and giving to the neighbors. This was imagined the inclined plane to be more conducive to sit or lie down and have a conversation while looking out in a practice court area , fire engines and fire boats.
THE STATION SEEMS TO MOVE Idea of fire and rescue station design , the form was taken from fire engines and the wheels transforms to be an equipment depot , and lockers room.
OPEN GLASS FACADES PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE CAN SEE THE ACTIVITY IN THE STATION.
VIEW INTO STAGING AREA Riverfront Facade , the design encourages firefighters and visitors to view into the fire boats , whilst the building has to protect boats from sunlight due to the fiber external skin. This includes floating docks to let fireboats to park upon a river for convenient maintenance , and can respond the increasing boats in the future. The pier is beside for the operation of EMS from the hospital when they have to receive personnel and patients. Atop the station is designed for additional space of garden , and viewpoint , also Multi-purpose area to do activities , allowing public to use and rent the room of meeting , in the meantime they can see the operation in the station that why open facade, and the terrace for the connection.

EXPERIMENT THE FORM OF STATION From the study of firefighter activities, and operation found that they have to stay and work as a team , and the responsibility is dual duties to the marina and land . Office and living space should locate on the upper floor for the communication operation.
CONCEPTUAL IDEA, The form is similar to a fire boat + fire engine , underneath is their storages. Ground floor occupies the mechanic tools in red oval color face two sides of the river , and land. Second floor is the office combining facilities , living quarters . The third floor is a shared function – conferences , technology room , and gym. The roof top in green color is a promenade to see the riverfront view.
TOP VIEW TO BE A PROMENADE OF THE CITY
When reviewing the design gathered through the station inspections, and interviews, it was clear that they were all in agreement regarding the option in fire station design and construction to use this conceptual idea. Meanwhile, the station building design have to respond the functionality for personnel, and save more area to give to the firefighters , and public use of the exercise ,and practice court area. The final design is improved at the end from their aspect.

FINAL DESIGN : CONCEPT RELATIONSHIP PROGRAM , ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS
The reconstruction of the full Samsen Fire and Rescue Station is the result of a needed planning and implementation process to respond the emergency generator. An exploded axonometric diagram shows how the firehouse is designed for the efficiency operation. Because they work as a team , and stay in a same area for waiting radio calls . Therefore, the design of the main station emphasis on their working in a red oval color of the 2nd floor. All routine facilities embrace this room , and link to the apparatus floors of vehicles , and equipment depots shown in a green box by circulations of stairs ( yellow ) , lift ( brown ) , and fire tube shaft ( red ). Training room is in the front faces to the Chao Phraya River which is used for scheduling of the team to report for fire chiefs. Upper floors are their break room or bedrooms to stay in a purple color , and fire chiefs‟ bedrooms in a blue color. At the center is a recreation room , open patio allowing natural light to the space. Firefighters can play a pool , watch TV , read books from the shelves. Technology room is provided computers for general contact of organizations.

INSTALLATION OF REMOVAL TOXIC GAS SYSTEM
Vehicle exhaust fumes, found in every fire station, is produced when an diesel engine burns diesel fuel. It is a complex mixture of thousands of gases and particles (soot) containing several toxic air contaminants. These include many known or suspected carcinogenic substances. It also contains other harmful pollutants, including nitrogen oxides. In the long term, repeated exposure is as dangerous as being subject to cigarette smoke. The fumes spreads into the areas where firemen eat, sleep and reside. It penetrates the clothes. No wonder cancer rates among firemen are exceptionally high.
PERSPECTIVE VIEW IN THE FRONT
The new building of the Samsen Fire and Rescue Station salutes the passing traffic on the Kao Road , Dusit District at the rear of Vashirapayaban Hospital to make the convenient movement when getting out to the response. “ Flame of Fire ” is becoming a symbol of governmental fire and rescue station presence located behind the glass window façade. The emergency number 199 for the fire station shines through the profile glass cladding of the stations head office. Shutter doors allow for rapid exits by the fire and rescue vehicles.
APPARATUS FLOOR , EQUIPMENT DEPOTS, LOCKER ROOMS
Workshops and storage rooms surround the apparatus rigs, separate from office and residential space upstairs. In the building„s interior, red and orange are only to be seen on the vehicles, on strategically important doors (leading to the vehicle hall and the changing rooms) and the lockers. The rest of the interior is dominated by white, grey and green. The floors consist of epoxy resin and anthracite coloured tiles; the interior walls were constructed of unplastered concrete where possible. Only the partition wall to the hall was equipped with an insulating panel. Next to the changing rooms in the flat wing are a workshop, storage area and decontamination room.
