Tweed Chic

BY: TARA RYAN

Celebrated as part of Scotland’s heritage, tweed has been worn throughout the decades. Woven in a variety of patterns and cut in a variety of styles tweed is a must have fashion staple. Major fashion houses such as Chanel loved it so much they even used tweed for their debut couture collection in 1928 and Karl Lagerfeld uses tweed today to dress well-known figures like Michelle Obama & Victoria Beckham. With its old school roots tweed is a classic item and must have for any wardrobe. Designers this year have updated the tweed look using modern textures and pops of color. So it’s fresher looking and has a modern edge. A great way to wear tweed is by adding a tweed jacket, or vest to your wardrobe can add that perfect girly look or even a punk edge depending on how you accessorize it. The right tweed jacket can dress up a casual pair of jeans or add a funky fresh taste to your office wear and it’s easy to accessorize tweed using simple accessories such as a gold chain or a pair of pearl earrings for the girly style, or if you prefer the punk look a spiked bracelet or a cute pair of boots can create that. Tweed is so versatile it can be worn in the office and then out for dinner afterwards. It’s warm yet breathable, and is great for those days when it’s not chilly enough for a jacket, but too cold for bear arms. How will you wear tweed this year?

BY KRYSTINA EDGAR When you have a breakup, there are usually always feelings that linger. Not necessarily that you miss him/her, but you miss the closeness and intimacy. For whatever reason they are an ex, you should always try to keep it that way. It can be hard and we all know that saying “NO” to someone can be even harder, but when it comes to an ex it should be the easiest word to use. Simple reason: the relationship ended for a reason. You may still have feelings for your ex so when he or she calls or texts you for sex, don’t let your feelings get in the way of refusing. Sex is something that two people share and they share it in an intimate way. It’s something that two people should enjoy together only if they have feelings for one another, and in this situation you’re slowly becoming no more than a booty call.

Even if you think your ex has feelings for you, think before make any rash decisions. Think to yourself, “when, was the last time you have heard from him/her?”, “Did you both argue the last time you talked to each other?” Chances are, it has been awhile that you and your ex have talked and when you did talk to your ex, you both probably argued about something. The important thing is to stick to your guns, and don’t put yourself into a position that you are vulnerable. Once you have sex with your ex you will most likely end up emotionally hurt again, because it is an emotional trigger when you are no longer with that person. Some people opt to remain friends and that pesky “friends with benefits” idea comes up. Unless you are looking for just sex without a commitment (which is emotionally never a good idea, because for the woman it always ends up

being more), avoid doing that at all costs. And last but not least, always remember that it is a possibly that your ex has had sex with others and it may have been unprotected, so be safe rather than sorry! So, let’s go over reason to why not to have sex with our ex: •They are an ex for a reason so they no longer deserve your time. •You don’t want to get emotionally hurt again. • You may become jealous that your ex is having sex with others after you. •You do not know if your ex has had sex with others and you don’t know if it was protected. So be safe and keep your life simple and say “NO” to sex with your ex!

SE X WITH THE E X : NO!

E veryD ay Princess BY: M A R I S A EC H AVA R R I “Daddy, I need the new iPhone 5”. “Daddy, can I have $50 to go to the movies and dinner with my friends?” “Daddy, I’m so sorry I dinged my car! Are you mad at me?” I think we all know at least one of these girls. The Every Day Princess whose wish is her father’s command. She wears the best clothes and always has flawless makeup. She waltzes through life like it’s a party and has no reason to work in high school or University. She’s charming and sweet. Being around her can be intoxicating as she shares her adventures and big dreams. She’s the prom queen, the homecoming queen and the popular girl. Entitlement rolls off her in waves and although she grates on your nerves most of the time…who doesn’t want to be around a princess? However, while you may feel envious of the princess and her lifestyle remember that a girl can’t be a princess forever. There will come a time where they will be out in the world by themselves…and do you think they’ll be prepared for reality? I’m happy I worked when I was younger. I have employable skills, know how to write a resume and years of experience in several fields. I served princesses for years in a little coffee shop. As they flounced in with their credit cards, I was counting down the hours until I cold cash out my hard earned tips. And you know what? Even though I generally only got $20 in tips for an 8-hour shift, that money felt so good in my pocket because I know I earned it. Not all princesses become queens. In today’s world, it is hard work and persistence, not entitlement, that determines who rises to the top.

Date number one is fun and spontaneous, date number two wild and crazy while date number three is sweet and caring. Top 10 B est B reak up S ongs! BY LILLY BABINEAU For most of us, breakups can be really hard. You’re with someone for however long, and then one day it’s just over. Sure, you could lock yourself in your room and mourn the loss for days, wondering what went wrong. Instead of doing this, why don’t you settle in your room and listen to some of these great breakup songs. You just might find yourself feeling empowered and able to move on from this in a good way. 10. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” -- Taylor Swift. We can’t have a breakup song list without the Queen of breakups...er... breakup songs! After makig a very private breakup with a certain One Direction star, she turned it into a very public breakup anthem. 9. “Break My Heart” -- Victoria Duffield. One of my personal favorite types of breakup songs are the ones that make you want to dance, while giving your ex a hypothetical slap in the face. This song has both a dance version and acoustic version, both of which are very good and catchy. 8. “Part of Me” -- Katy Perry So what this video teaches us about breaking up with Katy Perry, is that if it happens, she’ll give herself a pixie cut and join the marines. In all seriousness, this video is one of the most empowering videos I’ve ever seen. The words are so powerful and meaningful that you can’t help but walk away from it without a sense of accomplishment. This by no means is meant to tell you that the actions in this video weren’t a little extreme, but you got to love the fact that she isn’t letting the breakup wreck her soul and spirit.

7. “Irreplaceable” -- Beyonce From the Queen B herself, a breakup song that tells men everywhere that they most definitely are replaceable. It also tells us women that even though they say ‘you’ll never find another guy like me!’....isn’t that the point?

3. “Since You Been Gone” -- Kelly Clarkson

Horrible grammar aside, Kelly turns a breakup (which was obviously for the better) into a fabulous song combining country, rock and pop genres. It’s like she’s screaming how much better off she is without Mr. Wrong, and all he can do is sit there, shut up and 6. “The Hardest Part of Breaking Up” take it. -- 2Gether 2. “So What” -- Pink So years ago, MuchMusic and MTV popped out a television series about Let’s face it. No one does breakups a totally fake boy band (seriously, one like Pink. Her style, talent and attiis like, 40!) and what do you know? tude not only make all her songs a Their spoofing of the boy bands of hit, but they also bring about some the time (I believe BSB and N*Sync of the best breakup songs we’ll ever were targeted here!) was actually hear. She’s still a rockstar. She’s tion, food from the fridge, and even got her rock moves. And she don’t the kitchen sink! need him! (hehe) While it wasn’t too long that they ended up getting 5. “Rolling in the Deep” -- Adele back together, does he mind that she wrote that song for him? According to Another fiesty woman who tends to a recent interview, he really doesn’t pour all her emotions into her songs mind it at all! (in a much classier way) is Adele. This song tells the tragic tale of love And finally, my number one pick for lost, and how they could have had it the best breakup song... all. Unfortunately for whoever the poor sap of a boyfriend was, now she 1. “Goodbye Earl” -- Dixie Chicks does have it all... and thanks to him, a Grammy. Mary Anne and Wanda were the best of friends... and they definitely had 4. “Ghost” -- Fefe Dobson each other’s backs! When Wanda married an abusive SOB, Mary Anne After catching her boyfriend cheat- rushed to her side and aided and abeting on her, Fefe decides to haunt ted a murder. True, this video features him much like a poltergeist haunting two women singing about murdering a scared little boy. She appears ev- a man (the ultimate revenge?) but in erywhere and for whatever reason, MY opinion, what else does a woman hanging by her toes on a ceiling. A beater deserve? Jail tine springs to little much, Fefe? Yes, yes it was. Breakups are hard, everyone deals with them differently and some people have an easier time letting go than others. But what happens when you breakup with someone who doesn’t want to say goodbye? It can be confusing and scary when your ex won’t leave you alone and keeps bothering you to kiss and makeup. Remember you don’t have to put up with their behaviour or feel scared. Sometimes even being very clear with someone can be hard but at the end of the day it makes for a smoother breakup. A firm No can be the best answer in this case Let them know that you have moved on and no longer want to have a relationship. Don’t flirt with him or lead him on. Stand your ground and make it clear you do not want calls, texts or messages from him and remove him from all social media sites. Do not meet with him alone, if you need to exchange belongings have someone go with you. Change your number or block him from sites like Facebook and Twitter. Some people will use sympathy to get you back or even threats of suicide. If this is the case tell someone you trust or report it to the police. Talk to your parents or a close friend let them know that you ex is upsetting you. No one has the right to make your life miserable and if they get threatening know your rights, when a person keeps contacting you and you have asked them to stop or threatens you at all it’s against the law. Here are some resources if you need someone to talk to for advice in this situation or a similar one. The CHIMO Helpline -1-800-667-5005. They are a bilingual New Brunswick helpline. CHIMO is open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

BY JENNIFER RICHARD As Katniss and Peeta head home after winning the Hunger Games, fans patiently await the arrival of the sequel to the Hunger Games series: Catching Fire. With the return of the main cast from the first film, (Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth), the sequel welcomes some new faces for the 75th annual Hunger Games such as Philip Seymour Hoffman and Sam Clafin. But what can we expect from this movie. Rebellion? Romance? Action? Deaths? We know for sure from the previews and from the synopsis that the tributes aren’t like the ones before. This year’s odd twist shows that the Capitol really means business. Theses tributes are trained killers chosen from previous winners of the Hunger Games. We know a rebellion is stirring amongst the thirteen districts as an aftermath to the actions taken by Katniss and Peeta at the end of the 74th Hunger Games. But how far into the rebellion are we going to see in this movie? Let’s hope that none of our favourite characters are going to die in this movie. We’re probably going to see more of the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale. On one side, we have Peeta, who is strong, a leader, and is completely in love with Katniss. But on the other side, we have Gale, who we all know is perfect for Katniss in every way (and who wouldn’t mind a piece of Liam Hemsworth!) Katniss will need to make a decision before anything bad happens. For the ones who have read the books, and can’t wait to see the results, let’s hope that this movie stays true to the book. Want to find out how it ends? The Hunger Games: Catching Fire comes out in theaters November 22nd 2013. May the odds be ever in your favour.

Fall is the time of year that you have a choice to experience the beauty of many different colors that nature gives us. Take a look around you and use your imagination and choose the bright and vibrant colors such as red, orange, and blue. These colors as well as many other colors are used in many fall fashions. So stop wondering what the trends are for the season and how you should wear them! Black is often used by fashion designers so you can pull it off too, you can chose bright colors with black colors and it will create a look just for you. Because black is basic color it goes well with any and every color possible. Other basic colors you can use are white, brown and grey so be creative with the basic colors. Let’s say you have a favorite black dress but you want to amp it up, wear a purple jacket to make it trendy because purple is back in style and there are so many hues of purple to use and that gives you endless ideas. As most of us know, orange is a common color used during the fall so why not use orange as a base color to your outfit and then combine a black sexy pair of heels or a black hat. Red is another big color this season, and it’s the perfect color for that romantic look and again black goes well with red. If you are going with a color that is more “red wine”, keep in mind that not only black goes well with it but a chocolate color mixes well and that means you can use a black jacket and chocolate brown boots, and that will give you a very feminine look which is perfect for the fall season. Another color trend that is different but helps you really stand out is blue. Beige and light brown go well with blue and it also brings out the brightness in blue. For a very bold look go with a blue pants, or skirt then pair it with a jacket that is the same blue then use a beige or light brown shirt to give it a finished look. White is also a favorite with designers so if you are buying anything white for the fall season you are making the right decision because white never goes out of style. White and black prints are a huge hit this season and to give the outfit some kick choose some bright red accessories to make your outfit stand out. If you are looking for the perfect fall outfit be creative and choose bright bold colors or use simple colors and add bright bold colors for accessories. Take a look outside at nature in its beauty and use the colors that nature uses!

Robert, standing at roughly 6 foot 10 inches tall, has been seen in many popular movies such as 300, Sherlock Holmes, and the new movies Pacific Rim, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. He was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to interview with me.

AMA ZING Home Make overs!

BY JENNIFER RICHARD Spas can be very expensive but after you’ve gone, you feel so much better. So, why not have your own spa at home? Here are a few tips on how to have your own home makeover without spend a penny on spas. Facials The fatty oils in avocado are great for moisturizing dry skin. Mash up half an avocado until creamy. Add 1 tablespoon of honey, a cleaning agent, to the mix. If your skin is irritated, add a bit of plain yogurt for a soothing effect. If your skin is crying for extra moisture, add 1/4 cup of pure virgin olive oil. Once all ingredients are well combined, apply the mixture onto your clean face and neck. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. For added relaxation, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the mixture before applying. Manicure

Begin by washing your hands to soften nails and trim them straight across. Use a clear undercoat to even out the coverage of the color you have chosen. Roll the polish between your hands to get rid of air bubbles. When painting your nails, start in the middle of the nail base and sweep the brush upwards and aim to plaint the nail in three strokes (middle then the two edges). Never forget to apply a top coat to make your manicure last longer. And lastly, if you get polish on your fingers, use a cotton bud dipped in remover to tidy up. Pedicure Try this mix for a crazy pedicure. Mix ¼ cup of Listerine (you can pick any kind), ¼ cup of vinegar and ½ cup of warm water. Soak your feet in the mix for 10 minutes and when you take them out, the dead skin will practically peal itself off. Then give you toenails some pretty colors just like for the manicure and voilà! You’re done.

You will feel so much better after you’ve given yourself a makeover. Next time, invite some girls over for a girls night and give yourselves makeovers.

Casual Or Class y Hair For Ever y Occasion

BY JENNIFER RICHARD You know when you wake up in the morning and you’re just not in the mood to do your hair and just feel like you want to wear it casually even though you have an important meeting later that day? Don’t worry, there’s a name for that style, it’s called undone. PinkBlitz has a few tips on how to wear your undone on those too-lazy-to-do-my-hair days.

Tip #2:

Tip #5:

The ponytail. This is a classic hairstyle. Its quick, easy, takes your hair out of your face and it’s easy to make it look classy. Just wrap a strand of hair around the elastic. You can leave it as it is or braid it. This will hide the elastic and make it look more professional.

The braid. French braid, fishtail, waterfall - you name it - any type of braid can look classy yet have a sophisticated look to it. Some braids might be harder than others to make, but it the end, whichever braid you decide to do, it’s going to pull off the style you wanted to have.

Tip #1:

Tip #3:

The bun. This hairstyle has been known for the very sophisticated look. Teachers, lawyers, law officers, and doctors prefer this hairstyle because it’s a quick up-do. Some girls like to put a cute little bow under their bun. There’s also a new product that has been very popular amongst women since buns have been very popular these past few years. This product has different names. Some people call it a donut, others bun maker. Basically, it’s like a scrunchy that you put on you ponytail and wrap your hair around and if you do it right, it give you a classy looking bun that wont get loose.

Just add volume! With any hairstyle, backcomb your hair (at least a little) just to give it some volume. This will make you hair stand out a little bit more. For those of you have thin hair, this can come in handy if you think your hair always looks flat.

But hey! Nowadays, you can make any hairstyle look classy and it’s also easier to find out how to make certain hairstyles. Pinterest is probably one of the best sites out there where you can find any hairstyle and how to make them. Youtube is also great because they’re showing you step by step how to make them.

Tip #4: The half-up. It’s a quick hairstyle to get your hair out of the way but still have hair flowing around. You can either do like the ponytail and wrap a strand of hair around the elastic or just tie it up with a barrette. You can also add volume and tie it up with bobby pins.

Working Off the Baby Weight BY: MARISA ECHAVARRI Just have a kid? Not quite sure how to get back that cute little body from before you gave birth? Getting back to your before baby body is difficult, but here are some easy ways to get you on track to lose that baby weight. Eat Super foods After you give birth, it is essential to give your body as much nutrition as possible. You want foods that are heavy in nutrients but not in carbs or fat. Fish is a good super food because it contains DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid that is good for your body and health. Milk and yogurt are good as well because they have a high calcium content to keep your bones strong. Breastfeed While some studies have found that breastfeeding doesn’t help with weight loss, in some cases it is shown that exclusively breastfeeding helps return you to your original before baby body faster. Also, if you breast-feed your child it allows

you to eat more calories in the day (approximately 300 more calories than normal).

It’s Not Easy By Allon McCall

Being a musician or an artist or anything to do with the arts is a lot more involved and harder than most people and especially the general public give us artists credit for. Having been a musician since the age of 5 this is something that is common knowledge as it is to anyone else that is in the arts. People in general don’t respect us. They don’t value our time or efforts in LIFE long pursuit of sharing our talent. We spend most of our time convincing people that we are normal and that our talents or our vision or our style is special and unique and has worth, value and most importantly NEEDS to be taken seriously. This, my friends is very exhausting. Besides the normal run of obstacles that we endure, day jobs, unsympathetic spouses or parents/family/ employers, bills, survival in general, there’s the fight for RESPECT that is paramount. I equate being a musician or any kind of artist as to that of being a superhero. We have gifts that others don’t. We constantly look for others like us to surround ourselves with. We join forces weather in groups or bands to take on a dying or lifeless art scene or to show up the fakes and frauds that have taken over. We use special gear made specifically for our gifts. We wear special clothing and certain colors. And no matter where you go you can always pick out one of your own from a crown- even if they are retired. The general population sometimes loves us, sometimes hates us, and sometimes doesn’t quite know what to think. We battle the powers that be in order to gain respect or opportunity to reach the masses. We are Ronin; rebels, when the establishment chooses to attempt to stop us or silence us in place of their factory made clones. Yes… being a professional artist is a hard life. That being said there are rules to all of this. Amid the sea of professional musicians there are still those of us that haven’t reached professional level. And it’s this segment of us that give us other hard working superheroes a bad name and promote the poor image that we daily work so hard to undo. In my next article I will offer several suggestions on how to obtain a more professional way of being as an artist.

on a yeux noir.
