Cast NOTE DIRECTOR’S Welcome to The Little Mermaid, a collaborative production between the students of Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s PMT Conservatory and the student orchestra from Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12. We are so excited to be back together here at the historic Byham Theater. This beautiful space provides the opportunity for our dedicated students to participate in a full scale, professionally produced production in a theater that fully supports this important learning experience. After a two year hiatus, we feel especially grateful to return for the 17th year of this creative partnership between CAPA and PMT Conservatory. We would be remiss not to mention another wonderful reason we are grateful to be back in the Byham Theater: the opportunity to work with a skilled, professional union crew. The men and women who make magic happen on this stage are dedicated, talented industry professionals and we are fortunate to have them here in Pittsburgh. They are an incredible asset to our

students, and to the amazing cultural opportunities in our city. It is always gratifying to direct the students of PMT Conservatory in our collaboration with CAPA. I cannot emphasize enough how rewarding it is to see their hard work and dedication come to fruition. They shine not only through their performances, but through the growth I see in their critical life skills. Their discipline, ability to communicate, teamwork, and creativity are unmatched. I selected The Little Mermaid because it’s the perfect show to bring the magic back for all of us as we return to the enjoyment of theater and cultural experiences. I wanted to produce a show that families could enjoy together. It’s been magical for me to share this experience with our students. They truly embody the joy of this beloved story. Young or young at heart, I hope you leave the theater today with a sense of wonder at the magic and joy we’ll share Under the Sea.

Cast NOTE DIRECTOR’S I saw my first show at The Byham Theater when I was just a kid. Back then, it was the Fulton. I was completely amazed at the size and beauty of this space. The proscenium, the main curtain, and the stunning lobby made me fall in love with theatre even more. The show I saw that day was PMT’s The Sound of Music. In 2022, PMT finally returns to the Byham Theater. This year, our amazing and talented students have a chance to experience what it is like to perform on one of Pennsylvania’s most prestigious stages. They have the opportunity to feel the power of the lights hitting their face on that glorious deck, and, they get to enjoy this experience while performing one of PMT’s most beloved and classic musical productions, Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

I’m so proud of the work they have put in, but I’m most proud of the future lessons that I know they’ll take to heart through this tremendously important process. The lessons of hard work, leadership, and especially collaboration come to mind. This collaboration between PMT’s students and the talented CAPA Orchestra is a triumphant celebration of arts education in the Pittsburgh community. Let’s celebrate together in this magnificent space that I, and many others in the past, present, and future have, and will call home.

CONSERVATORY Young Artist Production DISNEY’S THE LITTLE MERMAID is a Young Artist Production presented by the students of PMT Conservatory in collaboration with the CAPA Orchestra. The foundation of PMT’s mission is built on arts education, development, mentorship, and providing performance opportunities for young artists. Students at PMT Conservatory receive a truly unique experience to use their training in fully produced productions of their own in which they take on roles as performers and technical theater crew. Whether a student wishes to pursue a career in the arts or another field, Young Artist Productions provide an opportunity for growth and building transferable life skills in our future leaders. Patrons attending Young Artist Productions will be a part of it all as they experience and enjoy the best of our region’s talented youth in professionalquality entertainment!
