Presidents’ Messages
Hello from PLASFEDMAG Selçuk Gülsün
We are together once again with the November 2016 issue of PLASFEDMAG. The K Fair
PLASFEDMAG President of Editorial Board PAGDER Vice President
which is the largest and the most important fair for the plastic and rubber industries, is also very important for our country. Turkish plastics, rubber and machinery industry will make an appearance in this fair with more than 100 companies. With our plastic processing capacity being the second in Europe and seventh in the world and our ever growing manufacturing volume, we are indeed quite distinguished within the market. And we will be showcasing our products and technologies. I personally wish success to all the participants and visitors of K Fair.
The interest to this triennial activity continues to grow with each passing one. This could be called the most important factor in terms of its continuity to be a center of attraction. The interest to such fairs is not like the old days because of the abundance of communication devices and the ease of access to information in the modern world, however, this fair has its privileges in that regard. Being held once in every three years and its successful organization goes beyond the ordinary and keeps the interest high.
So with this opportunity, I’d like to wish a very good fair and prosperous business prospects to all the participants and visitors of the fair.
Best regards.

This culture of the plastics industry did not change on Federation stage. PLASFED also chose a flexible process on organization stage. It even decided to support regional and local organizations. Developing countries have undertaken the role of growing after global crisis. We are in
Chairman Association of Ankara Plastics Industrialists APSD
a new phase. Steps are needed to be taken for a sustainable growth. Three principles for restructuring of global economy in Turkey have been described as “Inclusivity, Implementation and Investment.”
Plastic industry in Turkey has sustained to grow despite the global economic situation and risks in our region. In the last two years, the current level is maintained. Having stepped into restructuring period, economy of Turkey lies heavy on reforms. We will concentrate more on industry. Ankara is a place of utmost importance for plastics industry. In total, we are working with nearly 300 domestic qualified manufacturers.
Another characteristics of Ankara is that export and manufacturing tend towards the products with high added value. These can be exemplified as aviation, space and defence industry being intensified in Ankara and in addition to this, it can be exemplified as plethora of technology development zones, particularly universities. We witness that research capacity is swiftly turning into product. As Ankara is a hub of economy with its population of around 5 million, it has allowed the development of plastic industry.
Today in Ankara, manufacturing can be performed almost in all branches of plastics ranging from plastic and composite products used in space and aviation instrumentations to general consumption products. It has a strong investment appetite in regard to the technologies of the future. We can mention a business world with an international experience holder thanks to being a public hub and performing job across the globe.
Dear Friends,
We need to get quickly out of adverse aura created by the global crisis. Turkey is one of the best countries where you can do business in plastic industry with strong exporter firms and its dynamic growth. It would be enough to take a look at the map for geographic advantage. Your counterparts in Ankara are poised to do business in each area of plastics.
As Ankara Plastic Industrialists’ Association, we would be very pleased to welcome you in the capital city of Turkey.
Best regards.

It is a region where textile is historically the strongest area. We receive visitors from all over the world. We are locally in a key point. We exhibit a position attracted by global sized enterprises together with Turkey in terms of plastic industry. We have been involved with the news of merging-takeover or investment carried out in recent time or under negotiation.
Adana is a province existing in entire process ranging from raw material in plastics to product transformation. Thus, we have an outstanding experienced industry. As volume, we are in an esteemed position within Turkey. Our manufacturers carry on an effective operation in export markets.
Adana will be more prominent in the future because it is one of the first doors that will be knocked by our neighbour countries in the south that will be a subject of high consumption. Also, it is because Adana exhibits an economic position in manufacturing almost all of industrial and consumption products to be demanded.
Turkey is one of the first three biggest manufacturers in Europe. Adana is also one of the first biggest three industrial regions in Turkey. Moreover, development is under way with new investments every day.
Our region is within an investment thrust in terms of both plastic industry and overall national economy. Çukurova region is a global energy junction. The central governmental is executing a project for supporting this with logistics. It is an initiative supported with port and air ports. Constructions have already started. We can say that you can drop by Çukurova for doing business and trade. No need to wait for. Our door is always open to you. You will surely encounter a plastic manufacturer that you would love to cooperate. As ÇUKUROVAPLASDER, we have sound infrastructure for making this environment real.

torical significance. Thus, this region is full of people familiar with trade and manufacturing since the inception of civilization. Aegean region was also among the first settlements where economic-commercial legislation appeared and coins were invented by Lydians. Today, it is one of the most important industrial, agricultural, touristic and commercial hubs of contemporary Turkey. It has a myriad of business environments with its highly qualified manpower, experienced business men and vibrant life.
Following İstanbul-Marmara Region, Aegean is the region with the biggest manufacturing capacity as regards plastic industry in Turkey. This structure will evolve further with raw material investments because the biggest petrochemical plant of Turkey established in İzmir, Petkim, has been completing its additional investment since then.
Not only Aegean region but also the whole Turkey has been gradually getting more and more attention to plastic products than before. Alongside strong domestic market, demand for plastic material will continue to rise as regards both overall consumption and industrial consumption.
Plastic industry of Turkey has proven its reliability and quality in domestic and foreign markets as one of the industries attaching importance for developing itself and rapidly growing especially in the 90s. Our plastic industrialists rank at the top among world classes and European countries with sub-branches.
We will continue plastic investments in Turkey and İzmir because we are aware of the fact that we will be in a growth period following elimination of existing risks. We are ready for that, too. We are increasing our manufacturing capacity. We are poised to meet the demands to be delivered from all over the world.
As Turkey is geographically located in a meeting point of Europe and Asia, this situation will provide a strong advantage as regards increasing export for Turkish plastic industry. Turkish manufacturers have long proven themselves with their top qualities.
We will be happy to work with you. Our door is always open to you. When you visit İzmir, you will not only meet the beautiful and vibrant city but also the most beautiful seas of the world within maximum 1-hour distance and the cradle of civilization, Ephesus and Selçuk.
Best regards.

In this age of technology and communication that we live in, we continue to build strong ties

with all the countries of the world through our trade relations. After the coup attempt, the quick comeback of the stability in the business world, and also the work that we carried out for our partners abroad, have contributed to accelerate the normalization process in our country.
Our chemical industry has an important role for our production and also for foreign trade. Our industry ensures the manufacturing of more than 70,000 products and holds an important place among the main export products in the world. The products which do not require any chemical industry products as inputs in its production are quite rare. Our industry is especially strategically important for the countries focused on industrial development. Its share of exports in the global chemical industry is roughly between 12-15%. In parallel with this growing trend in the world, in line with 2023 targets; our export sector income is aimed to be increased by 4.8 times, from 14.6 to 50 billion dollars, and its global market share also to be increased from 0.44% to 0.79% with a 1.8 fold increase.
Turkey is located very close to the large and growing commercial markets. In line with our expertise in the chemical sector; and with the influence of our global position; we are the second largest in Europe and 7th largest in the world in terms of rubber and plastic production.
We, as the rubber industry, constitute a strong link within the value chain formed together with the industries of construction, aviation, health, automotive, mining, machinery, clothing and footwear, furniture and toy manufacturing. The rubber industry in Turkey provides not only intermediate products for almost all industries with the output of almost all processes of its value chain, but also inputs for the automotive tire manufacturing in the amount of 56%. Rubber industry also receives inputs from other industries, for example, the ratio of intermediate product input that it receives from chemical industry is the highest with 13.9%.
Nowadays, as an industry, we are also organizing the most important meeting of the rubber industry which is “RUBBER 2016, The 9th Rubber Industry Fair in İstanbul” between 24th and 27th of November, 2016. More than 100 participants from many countries which are open markets for rubber industry will join the 9th Rubber Industry Fair. Thanks to effective advertisement efforts made either domestically and abroad, through purchasing committee organizations from The Balkans, Far East and Northern Europe, access will be maintained to new products, new markets and new clients. In addition to that, India will be the honorary country in the fair, due to its 10 million dollar worth of export and 25 million dollar worth of import relationship with Turkey. Simultaneously with the Rubber Fair, between the 25th and 26th of November 2016, we will also hold “The 3rd National Rubber Congress” and will contribute to the cooperation between the industry and the academies. We are very pleased and honored to have invited all the representatives of the industry and everyone else who are related in a way or another.

This city has improved its excellent position in Anatolia as regards plastic industry. Of course, we are utilizing a very small portion of the potential we hold. We are getting impatient to meet up our potential partners operating across the globe. As I have mentioned, as one of the commercial and manufacturing hubs throughout the history, Kayseri has a sound infrastructure that can meet an intense business environment.

Şekib Avdagiç Chairman of the board Composite Manufacturers’ Association
Turkey is ready to meet the composite demand of all segments of the industry The importance of composite manufacturing as one of the world’s fastest growing industries is increasing with each passing day. Because it emerges as an alternative for many branches of industry, notably aviation. Because of its ease of manufacturing and processing and other advantages, composite materials are being demanded more and more everyday. Aviation and automotive industries are the leading sectors with such growing demands. The importance of composite will continue to grow in the future.
Turkey is quite lucky in that regard. Because it has the experience. Companies with the most important technologies which allow the manufacturing of composite materials are already producing raw and intermediate products. So Turkish composite industrialists are already very experienced to finalize the tasks that they have undertaken. Turkish composite industrialists do participate in global organizations and establish powerful cooperations all around the world. Our association and Turkish composite manufacturers are among the most important participants in JEC World Composite Fair which is held in Paris every year. Please don’t forget to make your reservation for the organization that will be held in March 2017. It is going to be a good opportunity for meetings.
Turkey has a strong industry however, change is also very fast. In regard to keeping up with such changes, two very happy news have dropped recently. DowAksa has opened its Global Composite Center in May, in scope of the project that it conducts for the advanced composite materials that will be used in aviation industry. After a short while, Dow and AKSA has developed their cooperation in Turkey and established a new company with the aim of advanced composite materials. Also in August, Composite Technologies Perfection Center which was started to be built as a part of Teknopark in İstanbul in December 2014, with the cooperation of Kordsa Global and Sabancı University has been opened.
Turkish composite industry has the manufacturing capacity that spans from the very simple products to the very advanced composite materials which are rarely seen around the world. Of course, the development and change pace in this sector is quite fast. Thus, industrialists have established a strategy forming initiative for the planning of the future. Composite Manufacturers’ Association has already started its strategic plan preparations and we have held our first meetings. Let me also state that Composite Manufacturers’ Association has achieved to be a reference association for the institutions and bodies of The European Union. Composite Manufacturers’ Association is ready to help any party who wishes to make business with Turkey.

The most reliable business PARTNER: TURKISH PLASTICS SECTOR
Reha Gür Chairman Plastics Industrialists’ Association PAGDER
Turkey has been the new star of plastics world for the last decade. It has double digits growth rate for the last 15 years , besides last two years. The reason is hidden at spot: Reliable Business Partner.
Mentality of Turkish industrialist & trader let us call “business people” is always “to be fast and flexible” for “the customer” in old version of terminology or for “the partner” in current understanding of us. Turkish business people consider “business partner” as the most valuable things in his life thus try to do what is requested by “partner”. To keeping commitments are the highest level of honor to be a good human. Besides all these , especially plastics sector in Turkey invested to the most modern technology and updated production processes in order to achieve the best available quality level of the World. As a conclusion; all these skills make Turkish Plastics Sector the most reliable business partner in the plastics world.
Now, we as PAGDER which is the Association of Turkish Plastics Sector organized together with IKMIB (chemical exporters association) National Pavillon of Turkish Plastics sector at K 2016. When you visit our National Pavillon and individual Turkish Exhibitors, you will be able to confirm my sentences, which are written above, by yourself.
My advice to you is to try Turkish Plastics in order to have excellent service level with the best quality at reasonable price level.

Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT) President Arda Ermut:
A government prioritizing international direct investments holds an office prime location to host headquarters for many multinational companies, thanks to its excellent connectivity, unique location, and strong bonds with its neighbors. Perhaps most important of all, we have a steadily growing economy with a sound financial system and a government that has made attracting foreign investments one of its top priorities. As a result of the initial comprehensive structural reform agenda, massive investments in human capital and infrastructure, fiscal discipline, and effective governance, Turkey’s economy experienced unprecedented improvement with sustainable and robust growth between 2003 and 2015. In numbers, Turkey’s population is 79 million, with half of it below 30 years of age. There are 49 million broadband internet subscribers, 74 million mobile phone subscribers, and 58 million credit card users in Turkey.
Turkey is one of the countries which international direct investments tended towards. Even if it may fluctuate somehow, Turkey is putting the projects with investment scale gradually growing into implementation. Turkey is implementing a serious program in this area. Alongside an equal treatment of international investments, it is even possible to say that Turkey gets additional incentives in some areas. One of the first doors that those interested in investment in Turkey should refer to Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT). ISPAT President Arda Ermut has told our magazine both his works and investment ambience in Turkey.
This shows the emergence of a strong middle class. Turkey’s workforce is over 29 million strong, with 610,000 university graduates and around 300,000 high school graduates coming from technical and vocational high schools being added each year. Turkey has a liberal investment climate as confirmed by OECD and World Bank reports. Turkey has a very lucrative investment scheme that provides support for investments. Some mechanisms of support include VAT exemption, customs duty exemption, tax reduction, and social security premium support, each depending on location, size, and sector of the investment.

President of the Istanbul Arbitration Centre, Ziya Akıncı
ISTAC is offering fast and effective solution Turkey is an important part of global economy. Its integration is growing every day. One of the most prominent elements in international commerce and investments is to ensure a process where all guidelines are fully applied. One of the most effective means in this process is surely arbitration centers. Turkey has completed a critical reform for offering a prestigious arbitration service in global scale. The President, Ziya Akıncı, has replied the questions related to İstanbul Arbitration Centre having started to operate.
When was The Istanbul Arbitration Centre (ISTAC) founded, what kind of services do you offer for international company ? The Istanbul Arbitration Centre (ISTAC), established in 2015, is an independent, impartial and neutral institution, providing dispute resolution services for both international and domestic parties. The ISTAC’s dispute resolution services are available to all contracting parties, without any membership requirements. The ISTAC Arbitration and Mediation Rules, prepared with regard to modern institutional rules, came into force on 26 October 2015. The Rules are available in English and can be downloaded from the ISTAC website (http://istac.org.tr/en/). Introducing innovative and efficient provisions, the ISTAC Rules answer the current needs of arbitration and mediation proceedings. Within the scope of arbitration, the ISTAC offers services such as Fast Track Arbitration, Emergency Arbitrator and appointments of arbitrators in ad hoc procedures.
Through Fast Track Arbitration, both domestic and foreign parties have the ability to the resolve their disputes within 3 months through the issuance of a final, binding and enforceable arbitral award by a Sole Arbitrator.
May you inform about costs ? ISTAC’s arbitrators’ fees and administrative costs are lower than other established institutions. The resolution of disputes in a less expensive manner than Turkish state courts is always promised before ISTAC. The fees for the arbitrators and administrative costs are calculated ad valorem, in accordance with the Rules on Costs and Fees Scales (Appendix 3 in the ISTAC Rules), based on the monetary value in dispute. The cost-calculator on the ISTAC website can be easily used to determine the costs of arbitration. You may find below comparative information about costs:
Why do international investors prefer to The Istanbul Arbitration Centre (ISTAC) ? The ISTAC Rules commit to resolve disputes in an expeditious, cost-effective and efficient way. ISTAC arbitral awards are enforceable in all countries. Turkey, as a party to Amount of Dispute TRY 1.000.000

the New York Convention, has the necessary legislative regulations, as its International Arbitration Law has been drafted in accordance with the UNCITRAL Model Law. While the seat of arbitration is in Turkey, ISTAC awards shall be enforced in Turkey as a domestic award, without being subject to the enforcement procedure of foreign awards. The ISTAC Rules give parties and arbitrators sufficient power to structure the arbitration proceedings in accordance to the needs of the case at hand. Accordingly, parties are free to designate the seat of arbitration, the language of the proceedings, the applicable law, and they may freely choose their arbitrators without being restricted by a list. Additionally, parties can be represented by foreign counsel(s). Since its founding in 2015, ISTAC arbitration clauses have been frequently incorporated in public procurement agreements, including the financing agreement of Istanbul’s third airport and the water supply agreement between Turkey and Northern Cyprus. In a short span of time, several cases, including many international ones, have been registered under the ISTAC Rules.

Assessment of year 2015 for the composite sector in Turkey, and expectations for year 2016
The composite sector in Turkey is one generating products with substantial added value, and operates with a firm count of 180 medium and large scale enterprises, and 700800 firms engaged partly in composite business, employing in total an approximate of 8000 workers. Today, Turkish composite materials market achieved a volume of 245,000 tons of products, worth EUR 1.225 billion. In parallel to the wider global trends, in Turkey the composite sector grows on the basis of market share acquired in substitute materials. Composite sector in Turkey enjoys a greater growth rate that the overall growth in Europe and the world. A growth rate of 8-12% was attained in Turkey over the last years in close connection with the existing economic conditions. In the last few years, with the help of economic stability, a growth rate of 9-10%.
In 2015, however, the growth was limited to 2%. When the amount of composite material use per person in the world, which is regarded as “Criteria for Development”, is analysed, one can say that Turkey has important prospects and opportunities ahead in such a way that whereas this amount ranges from 4 to 10 kg per person in the world, the amount of annual composite material use in Turkey is 3 kg per person. The average price level in the world is 7.5 €/kg compared to 5.0 €/kg in Turkey. Both in terms of consumption per person and average prices, Turkey has many advantages for the coming years. As one can see from this table, composite material in our country is mainly used in pipe and tank sector as well as in building and construction sector. With the increase in the production of high technology products in our country, the rate and amount of composite material use especially in the sectors of wind

energy, transportation and automotive, space and aviation as well as electric and electronics is estimated to increase. As seen in the table, there is a lot to make in our country for the production of goods requiring machinery and advanced technology. With the effect of demand in our country and in the surrounding countries, CTP pipe production reaching levels up to 45% will continue to be motor power behind the composite sector in the country. It is estimated the shares of pultrusion, SMC-BMC and Thermoplastics Injection processes in the production will increase in the coming years. The use of RTM process will especially continue to increase in wind energy, maritime, automotive and transportation as well as waterslides sectors. ation sector has increased dramatically. The rapid increase in the use of composite materials in wind energy sector enabled this sector to become one of the major sectors within composite sectors. The development rate of thermoplastics surpassed that of thermosets a result of which the share of thermoplastics in composite sector increased. The ratio of injection processes to hand lay-up steadily increased and the use of hand lay-up techniques was limited mostly to the production of bulky pieces. In the year 2016,

showing once again signs of economic vitality, the export performance of our producers will only grow. We believe that the efforts of the players in the sector in developing new projects and diversifying the export markets will contribute to an even better performance in 2016, through positive returns of such efforts.
The composite sector in Turkey is expected to grow by 5% in 2016. If regional stability coupled with stability in the Middle East can be achieved in 2016, alongside Europe

With that scope of view, we have been investing heavily in R&D of new systems and niche machines. In 2013, we have successfully launched our two-platen Zenith series which has brought up more possibilities on the table when compared to the traditional toggle machine. Injection molding machines with traditional toggle type clamping system uses the toggle mechanism that is pushed by an injection cylinder to create the clamping force. Despite the fact that this system works relatively faster than the two-platen, it also has some down sides. Firstly, clamping power is created mechanically which is then calcula-

flexing of the toggle mechanism in the traditional machines. However that is not present in the two-platen locking system which enables users to use machines with smaller clamping force than they normally do. Additionally, this system presents flexibility in machine values such as mold opening stroke, ejector stroke and maximum mould height which opens the path for advanced systems such as stack molding, spin-form multi component molding or injection molding process of extremely deep parts. Our constant focus on R&D opened the path of more possibilities for HĂźrmak injection molding machines after we finished the R&D of the two-platen system. It enabled us to think outside the box such as the spinning cube system for multi-component solutions. In traditional rotary table multi-component machine, moulding area between tie-bars is divided into two and each area is used for one type of material that is injected by two parallel injection units. However, this creates one problem; you can only use a very small part of the molding area as you have to make space for each cavity on the same surface. To overcome this obstacle, processors usually has to use a larger machine which consumes more power, has larger carbon foot-print as well as a larger physical foot-print also. With the new spinning cube system for multi-component molding, it is possible to use the complete molding are for the product itself as processors practically has two molding areas. This leads to much more efficient production capacity, shorter cycles and less consumption. Today, solutions such as these makes the difference in the market both the processor and for the machine manufacturer. While competition is very tough for the basic injection molding machine, companies that has the technical capacity to produce such high-end and highly customized solutions are very limited. With this perspective of constant innovation and tailor made solutions, we work hard to present our users the best possible price - performance balance and the best solution to maximize the efficiency in their business. We believe Turkey will soon be known for having the best alternative solutions in its region for plastics processing machines. 55
