FROM THE Desk of the City Manager
The City Manager's Office handles the general administration of the City of Temple and executes the policies and objectives of the City Council. The City Manager is directly responsible to the Mayor and City Council and oversees the day-to-day operations of the City by coordinating all City departments activities and functions, including the development of the Strategic Plan. The City Manager's Office also leads the financial and budget management process for the City and directs the City's efforts to plan for the future.
Police Staffing, Facilities, and Community Efforts
As part of our commitment to making Temple a place you love to call home, public safety remains at the forefront of our priorities. The Temple Police Department, under the leadership of Chief Shawn Reynolds, is dedicated to ensuring that our residents feel safe and secure throughout our community. I want to highlight our ongoing efforts to improve police staffing, facilities, and community engagement as part of our broader strategy to enhance public safety
The department is currently undergoing significant upgrades to both facilities and equipment to meet the needs of our growing community. A centerpiece of this effort is the expansion of the Public Safety Training Center, located on Airport Road near Fire Station 8. This multi-use training facility will feature an indoor shooting range, classroom spaces, and a “simunition shoot house,” allowing officers to train in simulated scenarios to better prepare for real-life situations. Additionally, the facility will include a driving training facility for both standard and emergency vehicle operations, providing vital training space for vehicle maneuvering that will serve not only the police department but also the fire department and public works.
A further enhancement to our police department’s capabilities is the development of a mobile command post, which will enable officers to operate efficiently from any location during emergencies, including situations requiring mutual aid. From managing on-site operations during natural disasters like the May 22nd tornado to offering rapid response capabilities, this addition demonstrates our commitment to being prepared for any scenario.
Project Centurion is another vital initiative led by the Temple Police Department in partnership with regional law enforcement agencies. This records management system will streamline data management and improve information-sharing across jurisdictions, strengthening our collaborative ability to ensure public safety throughout the region
Development Updates
These are exciting times in the City of Temple! New developmental projects are transforming our urban landscape, promising to bring innovation and vibrancy to our community. With a focus on sustainable design, these projects are set to revitalize our city's core, creating a dynamic hub for residents and visitors alike. Stay tuned for a reimagined Temple that seamlessly blends modernity with its rich heritage, making it a place we love to call home!
I-35 East West Gateway Project
The I-35 East West Gateway Project, located between West Central and West Adams Avenues, is in its final stages and will be completed this month This project, which began in October 2023, is designed to enhance the area with improved irrigation, landscape planting, updated lighting, and new art installations. The improvements will create a more inviting and visually appealing space for both locals and visitors traveling through this key section of Temple.
With completion just around the corner, we’re excited for the positive impact the East West Gateway will have on the community. Not only will it improve the overall aesthetic of this area, but it will also strengthen Temple’s image as a vibrant, welcoming city The new landscaping and lighting features will make this gateway a notable landmark, and we look forward to everyone experiencing the transformation.
Due to the weather, the grass may be damp, so we recommend bringing lawn chairs or a tarp to place beneath your blanket for added comfort.
