Development Updates

These are exciting times in the City of Temple! New developmental projects are transforming our urban landscape, promising to bring innovation and vibrancy to our community. With a focus on sustainable design, these projects are set to revitalize our city's core, creating a dynamic hub for residents and visitors alike. Taylor Elevated Storage Tank Rehabilitation

The Taylor Elevated Storage Tank rehabilitation project, located at 1644 South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, has been successfully completed This extensive project involved the full rehabilitation and recoating of both the interior and exterior of the 1 million-gallon elevated storage tank, which is a critical component of the city's water infrastructure. The work was designed to enhance the tank's safety, functionality, and longevity, ensuring it can continue to serve the community for years to come. The rehabilitation process included thorough inspections and necessary repairs to ensure the tank's structural integrity.

These improvements will not only support the city's growing water demands but also contribute to a more reliable and resilient water distribution system for residents With the project now complete, the tank is fully operational and back in service, ready to provide the community with consistent and dependable water delivery.

GARBAGE & RECYCLING COLLECTION SCHEDULE

New Year’s Day Holiday Collection

Collections scheduled for New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, December 31) will run as scheduled. There are no collections on New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1, 2025.) Normal collections will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The landfill will be closed on January 1, 2025.

Please place all items at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day. While crews work hard to stay on schedule, some delays may occur. We appreciate your patience as our team enjoys the holidays with their families. For updates on collection delays, visit templetx.gov/solidwaste.

City Office Holiday Closures

City offices closed on January 1 in observance of the New Year and reopened on January 2.

Additionally, the offices will be closed on January 20 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Celebrate the New Year Safely in Temple

As we celebrate the New Year, remember: fireworks are illegal within Temple city limits. Let’s kick off 2025 safely and thoughtfully! Be mindful of your neighbors during the celebrations especially pets, veterans, and children who may be sensitive to loud noises.

The City of Temple is now accepting applications for the Neighborhood Improvement Grant Program, which offers matching funds to enhance residential and non-residential properties in the City’s Neighborhood Planning Districts. This program supports projects like new construction, rehabilitation, adaptive re-use, and more.

To learn more about grant requirements and eligible projects visit templetx.gov/grants. Applications are available online and will be reviewed by city staff.

Downtown Temple

Downtown Temple stands as a dynamic hub, contributing to the community's enrichment in variety of ways. Its array of restaurants draws both locals and visitors, while the district hosts a plethora of events, from festivals to parades, throughout the year. Offering a blend of local boutiques and specialty stores, downtown Temple provides residents with diverse retail options, playing a crucial role in elevating Temple life and fostering community spirit through enjoyable dining experiences, festive celebrations, and retail therapy.

Parks & Recreation

Parks and Recreation plays a vital role in fostering vibrant and thriving communities. By providing accessible and well-maintained parks, recreational facilities, and programs, they create spaces for individuals of all ages to engage in physical activity, socialize, and connect with nature. As well as organizing community events, sports leagues, and cultural activities, promoting a sense of unity and belonging among residents.

Sensory Play

Tuesday, January 14 from 10 - 11 a.m.

Let’s get messy and explore the world through touch, sight, smell, sound, and maybe even a little taste! Each month, your little ones will dive into exciting sensory stations designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and smiles It’s the perfect opportunity to play, learn, and make new friends! This is a hands-on class, and some activities may be messy, please dress your child in play clothes.

Help us celebrate the individuals and organizations that have made a lasting impact on baseball and softball in Temple! Each year, Temple Parks & Recreation honors these contributions through the Youth Baseball, Youth Softball, and Adult Softball Walks of Fame.

Public Safety

Epic Reads

Read the classics you missed with lively conversation and a twist of fun! Meet every other month beginning January 4 on the 2nd floor from 1–3:30 p.m. for an introduction to Jane Austen's iconic novel Emma and join us again on February 1 for a discussion. Enjoy a literary conversation complete with tea, snacks, book trivia, and prizes. No grades, no reading aloud, no essays or tests just a chance to get these books off your list! This program is for adults ages 18+ and does not require registration.

Winter Reading

There’s still time to warm up your winter with our “Cozy Up with a Good Book” reading challenge! This program runs through January 31, so grab a blanket, a warm drink, and dive into the magic of stories while earning fun rewards. Pick up your Bingo card at the library or download a copy from exploretpl.com/winterreading to join the adventure.

This program is for kids, teens, and adults alike, with curated book selections and activities for all ages.

FiftyIn50 Reading Challenge

Start the new year with a literary adventure! Join the FiftyIn50 Weeks Challenge now through December 18. Read one book from each of 50 diverse categories, explore new genres, and broaden your horizons.

Little Ones

Join us on Fridays from 10:15 – 11 a.m. in the 1st Floor Story Time Room for Little Ones, an interactive storytime designed for toddlers ages 12 to 24 months. This fun session introduces early language skills, movement, and learning concepts through songs, rhymes, and movement activities. After the storytime, enjoy an extended play session focused on gross motor skills and social engagement for both toddlers and caregivers.

Kid Craft Corner

Children ages 7-12 are invited to join us every month as we get creative, get a little messy, and most of all have a lot of fun. Every month will feature a new and unique craft to create. All supplies will be provided.

Public Works

Public Works plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for community members. Their primary objective is to ensure the maintenance, development, and improvement of public infrastructure and services. From roads and bridges to water supply systems and parks, public works departments are responsible for managing and enhancing these essential elements of a community. Their efforts contribute to the safety, accessibility, and overall quality of life within the community.

Christmas Tree Recycling

The city is offering free Christmas tree recycling until January 10. Drop off your tree at the Solid Waste Complex (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) or at 602 Jack Baskins Drive (available 24/7).

If you're unable to make it to one of the drop-off locations, you can also leave your tree out for bulk and brush pickup.

Monthly Dumpster Drop

We understand how important it is to keep our neighborhoods clean and safe for everyone. That’s why the City of Temple is committed to continuing our Dumpster Drop program. We hope this initiative helps reduce illegal trash and tire dumping, making our community a better place for all of us!

What we provide:

Dropping a container monthly in different parts of town

Providing a trailer for the disposal of tires

Trash bags are available through Keep Temple Beautiful Rakes, Shovels, and other tools are available through the Temple Tool Library

TEMPLE TALK: In Case You Missed It

Holly Jolly Christmas 2024

This year, we introduced an expanded holiday season in Temple with the month-long celebration of festive fun known as Holly Jolly! The season was filled with exciting events, including the inaugural Christmas on the Plaza, the 78th Annual Christmas Parade, Santa at the Depot, Santa's Send-Off, and so much more.

These events brought joy and holiday spirit to the community, making this season one to remember. We’re thrilled to continue the Holly Jolly tradition next year and can’t wait to expand with even more festive events for everyone to enjoy!
