COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Mary Ann Garrett & M.C. Community Youth

A personal tragedy turned to triumph for the local community after a accident claimed the lives of two of Mary Ann Garrett’s children. Ms. Garrett wanted to honor the memory of her children and felt giving back to the local youth would do just that, thus creating the M.C. Community Youth Program. Named for her children, Michael and Constance, M.C. Community Youth strives to keep children off the streets and provide positive role models and activities for at risk children. For almost 20 years, the program has been teaching self-discipline, self-esteem, volunteerism, and love for God and country to thousands of local children. Mary Ann has also been recognized on the Texas Senate Floor and received multiple awards for her work, including the Temple Hometown Hero Award and the Texas Volunteer of the Year Award! M.C. Community Youth is a free program for all children ages 5 and up. The program meets every Wednesday evening at Wilson Park Recreation Center. For more information, please call 254-298-5740.

Due to the large number of parks in Temple, it is difficult to keep each park in top condition at all times. We are very thankful for all the help from our wonderful community members and organizations that help us maintain and enhance our parks!
