WELCOME
MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
They say the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year, but we are quite lucky to have a very close runner-up here in our slice of paradise. The sun is out, and the skies are vibrant which is nature’s way of encouraging you to “Get Out and Play!” Here at the City of Pensacola, we’ve been hard at work making improvements that will encourage residents and visitors to enjoy all that our beautiful city has to offer this season and beyond.
Our Parks and Recreation Department has transformed several of its recreation facilities — with plenty more on the way. If you haven’t had the chance yet, we encourage everyone to visit Roger Scott Tennis Center to enjoy 12 new asphalt courts and 10 existing clay courts for enhanced tennis play. Improvements were completed in February of this year and boast new sidewalks, drainage enhancements, electrical and lighting upgrades, new fencing, and new grass. Additional shade structures and benches will be added just in time for summer to keep players and spectators comfortable and protected from the sun.
If you’ve visited Community Maritime Park in the recent months, you may have had a glimpse of the improvements underway at Bruce Beach Nature Preserve. As a part of Phase I of the project, we’ve installed a new playground, lighting, pathways, and site maps to educate visitors about the area’s indigenous plant life and history. We can’t wait to celebrate the new and improved Bruce Beach Nature Preserve with you and are still on track to have Phase 2 of the project complete later this year. We’ve got plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy in the meantime. From our end, spring marks the start of summer with summer camp registration, and we hope that everyone will keep city community centers in mind as a safe and affordable option to register their child for summer camp. We offer a variety of specialty camps for youth who express interest in sports, dancing, outdoor adventure, and yoga! For families who are seeking a well-rounded option to keep their child engaged, we offer summer day camp between the hours of 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. at four of our centers. Our campers are known to take awesome field trips and certainly know how to have fun!
Camp isn’t where the fun ends, as we’re all excited for the highly anticipated Blues on the Bay and Movies in the Park Series. Be sure to check out event dates, in this guide, for free family-friendly concerts and movies to enjoy in Community Maritime Park — open to all ages.
I hope that everyone has an amazing spring and summer season. As your mayor, I am dedicated to working with our Parks and Recreation Department to enhance recreation and leisure for our incredible city and hope that you find lots to explore here in our Spring Summer 2024 Activity Guide, The Playbook Happy Warm Season Pensacola!
