F I E L D TRIP. An excursion or trip made to study something first hand. Welcome to our 2016 collection! As you turn the pages, we are thrilled to have you join us on our latest creative journey. We invite you to discover our new patterns, new bases, new colorways, and, for the first time, new designs for your home. Our field trip led us on all sorts of explorations into fresh designs, textures and color pairings, all placed against the breathtaking backdrops of Montana and Wyoming. There we photographed our new collection amidst charming towns, spectacular mountains, rivers and open fields, sharing our days (and nights!) with every manner of vegetation and wildlife. It was such a joy to look for ways to use natural beauty and the wilderness to bring our collection to life. As always, our collection is a collaborative effort and I am so grateful to my sister Hayley for all her help, as well as Amy Miller and Jill Zielinski. I deeply appreciate their talents and the unique design perspectives they have brought to this collection.

3

And, as I’ve often told you, our dear customers and friends, I am extremely grateful to have you alongside me on my creative journey over the years. You have been such an incredible source of inspiration and support, all of which contributed greatly to this massive project. I truly hope our Field Trip collection sparks your desire to explore and try new things (steeking and fringe anyone?!)—whether your creative journey finds you tucked into the warmth and comfort of your homes during the upcoming fall and winter months, or you pack your suitcases and project bags for destinations far beyond. Wherever your field trip takes you, the Plucky Crew and I send our warmest wishes to you on your knitting adventures!

LOOSE LEAF by Plucky Knitter

Quiet and subtle, this hat uses a simple lace pattern to create the illusion of pines rising up from the ribbed band. Loose Leaf is a great unisex hat, and lets the wearer decide where those trees belong. Worn with the trees in front, you are ready to hike among the trees. Or turn the trees to the back, showing the world that you have been through the forest and come out the other side!

FIELD GUIDE by Plucky Knitter

On its own, the Field Guide scarf is perfect for both guys and gals! The pairing of deep cabled ends and a subtle diamond pattern for the body make the Field Guide scarf a great addition to your winter wardrobe. So sophisticated and quiet when knit in one of the gorgeous Plucky greys, this scarf can also be fun and zingy with unexpected color pairings!

14

FIELD GUIDE HAT & MITTS by Plucky Knitter

These unisex hat and mitts are made for each other. The hat is a bit slouchy, and the mitts are just the right length for whatever your day holds. The large diamond motif echoes the pattern in the Field Guide scarf. You might choose to knit each piece by itself, or knit the hat and mitts to complement your scarf for a beautiful three-piece set.

SCOUT by Plucky Knitter

Here is a hat pattern that begs to be knit over and over again. The possibilities are endless! The combination of textures and the opportunity to mix bases and colors are simply too much fun. This is one of those projects that is sure to keep you knitting past your bedtime—you will want to knit just one more section before turning out the lights! And as you are knitting, it’s a good bet that you will be planning the colors for your next Scout hat.

ONWARD & UPWARD by Plucky Knitter

The Onward & Upward hats can each be knit with ANY fingering weight yarn held double. Both hats use garter stitch short rows to create a head-hugging, brimless hat. In Onward, the hat is knit flat and side-to-side, then joined with a brilliant slash of color. But, if a lace panel marching up to the summit is more your style, then Upward is perfect. Whether you choose a subtle marled look or a sassy color combo, Onward & Upward hats offer a great way to mix those bases and colors, creating a real one-of-a-kind hat.

PERSEPHONE by Plucky Knitter

We couldn’t help ourselves! While in Wyoming to photograph this collection, we started our days at the Persephone Bakery, enjoying a lattÊ served in a beautiful tea cup. With a nod to that bakery, our Persephone is a quietly elegant triangular shawl that pairs a richly textured body with a lovely lace border. When finished, you have the option of adding fringe along the bottom, for that little extra touch. This pattern contains, row-by-row written instructions, as well as a complete chart, making it suitable for most skill levels. One color? Two or more colors? Your choices are endless!

ALPENGLOW by Plucky Knitter

Alpenglow is a fast knit with stunning results! Gentle increases and decreases in the lace body are paired with a beautiful cabled edge, all worked simultaneously. Whether you select a single strand of your favorite Plucky bulky base, or combine lighter bases to create a custom bulky yarn, this promises to become a favorite. Generous sizing makes Alpenglow great as a stand-alone piece or as an extra layer worn over your winter coat.

HIDDEN FALLS by Plucky Knitter

Surprise! Who would ever guess that as you reach the end of this clever and deceptively simple piece, you will discover that you have already knit the fringe and you didn’t even know it?! We promise that this is a foolproof and painless way to steek! Hidden Falls is a worsted weight shawl with alternating bands of stockinette stitch and very simple lace patterns that are easy to memorize. Here is a great way to use that gradient set you have been saving!

EXPEDITION by Amy Miller

Without a doubt, the Expedition is a showstopper! Worked flat, the intertwining cables rise from the hem to the raglan neck, drawing the eye upward. The rich cables are fully charted, sitting on a field of reverse stockinette. The twisting and twining of the intricate motif make this a great project for those who are comfortable with knitting from charts, as well as for the adventurous among us who want to expand their horizons!

TWO TRACK by Jill Zielinski

Two Track takes the basic box-shaped sweater and mixes it up a bit! Knit side-to-side with a fun pop of color on the sleeves, the fit is unstructured and unconditionally comfortable. Two Track is seamless, joining the pieces with a three-needle bind-off that becomes a design feature. This is a sweater that allows total freedom of movement. It’s the perfect sweater for attacking those weekend chores when you need to roll up your shirtsleeves and get to work. But, Two Track is also right at home when worn to a Saturday afternoon tailgate party!

RENDEZVOUS PEAK by Amy Miller

Delightful! This cardigan checks off a lot of our “must have boxes for a cool weather cardigan. Knit in your favorite Plucky Bulky base, Rendezvous Peak is lofty, breathable and stylish. The beautiful open lace motifs are cleverly placed, making it very figure flattering. Worked from the bottom up, this sweater is almost seamless, with the sleeves picked up and knit in the round. This is a very fast knit, so you are probably going to need two Rendezvous Peaks this winter!

WEEKENDER by Amy Miller

Relaxed and easy to wear, the Weekender is a grab-and-go-anywhere sweater. Knit flat and with minimal shaping, this pullover is a perfect introduction to sweater knitting. Whether your taste runs toward lots and lots of positive ease or to a closer fit, the shirttail hem and drop shoulders are flattering to all sizes. And stripes! There’s no end to the color mixing fun you can have with the Weekender!

DAY TRIP by Jill Zielinski

Do you ever have days when you want to pare everything down to its simplest, least cluttered and uncomplicated form? The Day Trip does just that. A seamless design with minimal shaping, the statement blocks of color are created by holding Plucky Oxford and Sophisticate together, creating a beautifully marled, gradient look. Oversized and easy to wear, Day Trip is sure to become your wear-everywhere sweater (or should we call it a kimono?) this winter.

PERSEPHONE THROW by Plucky Knitter

We love options! And with the Persephone Throw pattern we give you options for two different sizes. When knit using the first, smaller sized option, you will create a beautifully textured square shawl, perfect for shutting out the winter chill. But when knit using the second, larger sized option, those same textures become a gorgeous throw, perfect for dressing up the back of your sofa or to snuggle under with someone you love. This pattern is charted and also contains row-by-row written instructions, making it a great choice for all skill levels. And, of course, adding fringe is the frosting on the cake!

OXBOW by Plucky Knitter

Let the temperatures fall and the winds blow. Who cares! Snuggle down under your Oxbow blanket and you will be toasty warm. We knit our Plucky blanket in Cambridge and could not love it more! Generous dimensions make Oxbow so much more than a lap blanket! There is no doubt this is the blanket that will become a treasured heirloom.

OH DEER by Plucky Knitter

Knitting...it’s not just for wearing. Sometimes we can use knitting to dress up our home. And, if there is one thing that says Plucky, it might just be a stag sporting a beautiful set of antlers, propped up in a favorite chair. This is an oversized pillow, with a noble stag’s head motif on the front and a rich blanket stripe on the reverse. Mix those colors!

96

HIDDEN FALLS BLANKET by Plucky Knitter

Our Hidden Falls Blanket is ready for you to choose colors and placements that reflect your taste. This blanket is the perfect place to mix it up with a bright rainbow of color bands or to quiet things down with a more monochromatic range of color. With alternating bands of stockinette stitch and a very simple lace pattern, the fringed ends are the final step in a unique finishing technique that uses the simplest steeking method imaginable! Hidden Falls Blanket will bring you hours of relaxed knitting and years of comfort!

PLUCKY YA RN S As always, it has been such a joy to pair the patterns in the Field Trip collection with Plucky bases and colors. It feels a bit like being a matchmaker! As we began working on this collection, we let each pattern tell us what it needed. Indeed, many of the pieces were knit several times and in multiple bases. Sometimes we even combined bases to create a unique fabric! And then… BOOM! We had to develop a brand new base. Drum roll, please…We are so pleased to introduce Cambridge, a blend of 75.25 merino cashmere, for our 2016 Fall Collection. We love Scholar for our casual worsted weight knitting and Oxford is always a great choice when you need a fingering weight yarn. Don’t you think it just makes sense to round out the line-up and add a bulky yarn to this mighty duo? Well, we did too! In the Field Trip collection, you will find several patterns that feature our newest base, Cambridge.

It is the same wonderful fiber content as Scholar and Oxford and is available in both the 1.0 version for a heathered look, and the 2.0 for a deep and more saturated look. Plucky yarns are hand-dyed at our studio in one of our signature, artisanal colorways, using techniques we have developed and refined. We are always dreaming up new and different colorways, drawing on our passion for creating tones and hues that come alive on our custom bases. We hope you love our yarns as much as we do.
