INTRODUCTION Welcome to All Bundled Up, the Plucky Knitter Winter 2015 Collection. The dream of a Plucky collection has been just that—a dream—and I’m so grateful to Amy Miller and Jill Zielinski for collaborating with me to make this dream a reality! We are excited to present our inaugural collection of unique patterns knit in your favorite Plucky Knitter bases and colorways… and perfect for bundling up during the deep winter months. What inspired all of this, you ask? The short answer is YOU. Our wonderful Plucky Knitter customers—old and new alike—fuel our passion for color, texture and design. As the vision unfolded for this very first collection, you were kept in mind every step of the way as we imagined you creating the finished garment with approachable, wearable design that’s current... fun... engaging... and classic with a twist. And did I mention the passion we share for affordable luxury? We all know that’s a must! With this being our inaugural collection—and coming right on the heels of an extremely busy year with our move to the new studio and all—I kept the focus smaller. It’s been such an amazing privilege to work with so many designers over the years, but for this initial effort I focused close to home in the Great Lakes region. I’m excited to share some of my own designs along with patterns by Amy Miller and Jill Zielinski. Amy—who shares a 100-year-old home outside of Milwaukee with her husband, two children and the occasional visit from her parents’ dog—is an avid knitwear designer with a personal sense of style that is current yet timeless. Living and going to school in Paris may have contributed to Amy’s love of fashion and all things beautiful. Jill, a fellow Michigander, brings her incredible vision of contemporary color work combined with her talent in both graphic and pattern design. Her experience with mothering three small boys served her well as she managed the photo shoot for this project. In addition to being fellow midwesterners, both Amy and Jill shared my vision for creating a fantastic collection that incorporates not only our mutual love for hand knits, but hand knits that reflect a totally Plucky lifestyle! It’s all about enjoying the entertainment of knitting and creating a beautiful finished object to enjoy and admire, whether in the boardroom or the classroom, with jeans and boots, or with a blouse and pencil skirt, or something in between. That’s how I would describe the Plucky lifestyle. All Bundled Up is all about a knitter’s lifestyle with a Plucky twist! For this collection, I didn’t want to feature just what I like and wear. My sister Hayley and I share a similar sense of style most of the time, but ten percent of the time we’re night and day different. Amy also has a unique style all her own. So you’ll see different aesthetics expressed through the various Plucky Knitter bases and colorways in the finished garments. And with Hayley, Amy and I as your Plucky models, you’ll also see how the items look on different body types, but always with the same great individual style shining through. So, I invite you to join us in getting “all bundled up” with the Plucky Knitter Winter 2015 Collection. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did creating it! Warmest regards,

COLD SNAP | by Amy Miller

Let’s face it! We, knitters, love a great knitting bag! If you took a peek inside my knitting bag (whether it’s a simple canvas Plucky tote or something more substantial like our Graf-Lantz bags), you’re likely to find scissors, stitch markers, tape measure, pens, spare change, a dog toy, hand cream, lipstick, iPad, Advil... oh yeah, and my projects (with extra yarn in case I’m overambitious!). It’s an understatement to say I need a big bag, but I want one that’s stylish too! Some of you may already be familiar with Graf & Lantz bags, but if not, please allow us to introduce you. These totes are wonderful; classic but trendy, sturdy but lightweight, sleek but spacious - definitely a winner around Plucky. And one of the best parts? They’re made from thick merino wool felt. As a yarn company, that just tickles our fancy! They have something for everyone; great neutrals all on their own, or add a pop of color (like us!). We invite you to check them out! We love our Jaunt Totes and think you will too... and while you’re visiting their site, check out their coasters—very cute! www.graf-lantz.com

THE YARNS What a joy it has been to pair each of these patterns with the different Plucky bases and colors shown in this book. We have tried to give you a view toward some of the options you have before you. The look of a finished piece can be dramatically different, depending on which base you select within the recommended weight yarn. As an example, a garment knit in Scholar will have a different look than one knit in another worsted weight, such as Bello Worsted. And, you may even choose to add another dimension by combining two yarns, in two different bases and/or colors, to create you own unique fabric. When that happens, YOU become the designer! Our fibers originate from multiple places – both domestically and internationally. All Plucky yarns are custom milled to meet MY standards of excellence, responsibility and ethical practices. Each skein is hand dyed, in our studio, using techniques we have developed and refined. When you purchase Plucky yarns, you do so knowing that these bases are not available anywhere else in the world. You can feel confident in the knowledge that I have personally developed and tested each base. I am proud of each and every skein of Plucky yarn we produce.

PLUCKY PORRIDGE (serves 4) 2 cups Jameson Irish Whiskey 1/3 cup sugar 1 cup dried cherries 2 whole vanilla beans 4 servings of Steel Cut oatmeal Brown sugar, ground cinnamon and Jameson Irish Whiskey to garnish Place 2 cups of Jameson, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 cup dried cherries, 2 vanilla beans sliced lengthwise and 2 whole cinnamon sticks in heavy bottomed sauce pan. Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer. Simmer on low for 30 minutes or until cherries are plump and reconstituted. May prepare to this point in advance and store cherries with poaching liquid covered in the refrigerator. Rewarm cherries in poaching liquid prior to serving. Prepare 4 servings of steel cut oats according to package directions. Divide oatmeal equally among 4 serving bowls. Top each bowl of oatmeal with ¼ cup of cherries. Garnish with brown sugar, ground cinnamon and 1 oz of Jameson (not the poaching liquid) Enjoy! P.S. Have left over cherries (don’t laugh, it could happen)? They’re also perfect over ice cream and/or pound cake!

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS While the Plucky Knitter 2015 Winter Collection was my brainchild, I worked with a truly wonderful and amazing team every step of the way to fulfill my vision and make it a reality. This first collection would not have come to fruition without Amy Miller and Jill Zielinski. They generously shared their amazing design talents in collaborating with me on All Bundled Up, which we are so proud to present to you. Jill also played an invaluable role managing our photo shoot (complete with temps in the teens, snow storms and high winds blowing off Lake Michigan!). And I am deeply grateful to my sister Hayley, my right hand who always kept things light, irreverent and just plain fun. I especially want to thank every member of the Plucky crew who helped make it all happen—from dyeing, rinsing and drying to twisting and tagging…and everything in between and beyond! I could go on for days, weeks, even months expressing my deepest gratitude for your dedication, loyalty and tireless efforts. You know who you are and I want you to know how grateful I am for each of you and all you do! So many other people played so many important roles and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate your support on this exciting project and help in making it such a special collection for our wonderful customers and friends. I’m proud to acknowledge those sample knitters below who worked with me specifically on the Plucky Knitter 2015 Winter Collection. With my warmest thanks,
