THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR Welcome to Fall Back, a Plucky Knitter Collection! It’s no secret that fall is my favorite time of the year. I love September and October with their beautiful crisp, sunny days that ease into cool, cozy nights. Fall is a nostalgic time for Hayley and me because our parents and grandparents made it such a magical season for us. They instilled a love of hayrides, baking, anything pumpkin flavored, all things plaid, and raking leaves (even if we bumped our heads on rocks as we tripped over each other falling into the piles of leaves - but we lived to tell the tale). To this day, Hayley and I continue these fall traditions. The fall months also are made for bonfires and first fires in the fireplace. It’s time to get out those plaid shirts (and vests and coats) and my favorite boots and topping it all off with my favorite hand knits.

Fall also reignites all my knitting juices. That’s why Fall Back is such a special collection for me. It’s filled with sweaters, cowls, hats, wraps, mitts, and leg warmers to wear with those boots! It’s everything you and I will need to stay warm and stylish, not only in September and October, but beyond. It also goes without saying that this time of year is particularly inspiring for me and the Plucky Crew. We are so pleased to introduce new colorways and bases that we hope you’ll love. As with previous collections, this one is another great design collaboration between Amy Miller, Jill Zielinski, Hayley and me. We loved coming up with the various patterns, color pairings and bases that resulted in Fall Back. We hope you enjoy knitting this collection as much as we did creating it! Warmly,

HAYRIDE

|

by Amy Miller

Hayride is the perfect three season pullover, whether you choose to wear it alone or style it over your favorite plaid shirt. The large bands of changing stitch patterns create lots of interest and loads of texture. Knit in the round, from the bottom up, the only seaming needed will be at the shoulders! Pattern and purchasing details on page 77.

GONE GLAMPING

|

by Plucky Knitter

No matter what your day holds, whether it’s running errands, raking leaves, dog walking or glamping with friends and family, you are going to want to wear Gone Glamping to top it all off! Knit in your favorite Plucky worsted weight, this hat is terrific fun to knit with its lace body and cable section. This is a great introduction to cabling, with row-by-row written instructions, as well as charts. Change the base, change the color, you will want to knit this one again and again! Indian Summer puts a bit of a girly spin on your favorite slouchy sweatshirt! Shown in Plucky Cashmere and worked from the bottom up, it’s a good bet that you will want to live in this sweater all weekend long. The deep lace hem and the full 5 / 12 cm of positive ease are the perfect mash up of comfort and sophistication. Indian Summer would be fantastic in Traveler Sport or any of the Plucky fingering weights. Pattern and purchasing details on page 77.

HARVEST TIME

|

by Amy Miller

Here is a scarf with a hundred options! With just a couple of wraps, you can add a dash of swagger to any outfit. Or, will you style it unwrapped and under the collar of a blazer or coat? If gift knitting is on your agenda, the Harvest Time scarf is perfect for men too. Shown in Plucky Bello worsted, you might choose to knit Harvest Time in an aran weight, or to mix those bases, keeping in mind that changes will affect the finished size and yardages. Pattern and purchasing details on page 78.

BONFIRE

|

by Amy Miller

With fall comes a crispness in the air that can turn blustery at the drop of a leaf. Bonfire is a sweater that is perfect for lazy weekends spent in or outside by the fire. A slightly oversized cardigan with pockets and a longer back, it can easily pull double duty as a jacket. Knit with Plucky Oxford and Sophisticate held double, it’s ever so cozy with a gorgeous marled texture. The possibilities for mixing your favorite Plucky fingering and lace weights are endless. Pattern and purchasing details on page 78.

STORM DOOR

|

by Plucky Knitter

Simple elegance from tip to tip, Storm Door is a must knit. This pattern is fully charted, and also gives you row-by-row instructions. The cable edges are worked at the same time as the body, so there are no border stitches to pick up! Shown in Plucky Cashmere, Storm Door would be delicious in any of the Plucky sport weights or even Snug Fingering. Pattern and purchasing details on page 78.

BURNING LEAVES

|

by Plucky Knitter

As the temperatures begin to tumble, we all need a full collection of fingerless mitts. A pair of Burning Leaves, knit in your favorite Plucky sport weight, are quick and easy. The slipped stitch detail on the arms is the perfect place for that little leftover bit of yarn you have been saving...just because the color makes you smile! Be bold or be subtle, here is a great opportunity to play with lights and darks, shadows and color schemes. Pattern and purchasing details on page 79.

MAPLE LEAF

|

by Amy Miller

This gorgeous elongated triangle shawl begins in the center and continues to build outward. The easy-to-memorize body repeats fall gently toward the final textured section, bringing to mind a carpet of crackling fall leaves. It would be easy to adjust the size of your shawl by either adding or omitting one of the body repeat sections, or knit in an Aran weight for an extra large shawl. Shown in Plucky Cachet, the Maple Leaf shawl is perfect for any of the Plucky worsted bases or for holding two strands of fingering together. As we say at Plucky, mix those bases! Pattern and purchasing details on page 79.

41

BUSHEL BASKET

|

by Amy Miller

Hat season is here! Bushel Basket is the hat that begs to be knit in several colors. It’s the perfect accessory for every coat, every sweater and every head. Knit in Snug Worsted, or your favorite worsted base, the easy-to-memorize twist pattern (no cables!) makes Bushel Basket the perfect project to have in your purse or backpack, ready to knit a few rows wherever you are! Pattern and purchasing details on page 79.

MARITIME

|

by Amy Miller

Nothing says sweater weather has arrived quite like a cabled pullover. Everybody needs something that’s just right for football games, trips to the cider mill and tossing on with a pair of jeans. Maritime is worked flat, allowing the cables to flow into the raglan shoulders. Shown in Plucky Scholar, the cables positively pop! Pattern and purchasing details on page 80.

PIERCE STOCKING

|

by Jill Zielinski

There is no better way to show off a pair of boots than to top them with eye-popping leg warmers. The possibilities are endless. Here is a great project for all those little bits of leftover Plucky fingering weights that you KNEW you had a very good reason for saving. Mix the bases, choose subtle color pairings to match your boots…or get absolutely crazy with color combos that you might never have dared in a sweater! Pattern and purchasing details on page 80.

PEAK COLOR

|

by Plucky Knitter

Oh, the unlimited color options! This eye-catching asymetrical triangle is worked side-to-side in your favorite Plucky fingering bases. Each section brings in a new color and a new stitch pattern. Will you choose a quiet monochromatic palette, a subtle gradient or will you pull out all the stops and go for a riot of color? Whatever you choose, have fun and don’t forget to MIX THOSE BASES! Pattern and purchasing details on page 80.

OMENA

|

by Jill Zielinski

Everything about Omena is fun, from cast on to total wearability. Knit in Plucky Scholar, with options for a 1-color or a 3-color gradient, the seamless construction is totally unique. The armholes are self-finishing, so all that’s left is to weave in a few ends, and you are ready for a chill in the air. Pattern and purchasing details on page 81.

FREEZE WARNING

|

by Amy Miller

Freeze Warning is all about texture. This cabled cowl is as much fun to knit as it will be to wear. Shown in Plucky Snug Worsted (and imagine the decadence in Cachet!), you may choose to wear your cowl long and luscious, or to wrap it and snuggle way down deep inside. Because Freeze Warning is knit end to end, you have the option of adjusting the finished circumference, based on the number of times you work the repeats. When you’re happy with the size, all that’s left to do is whipstitch the ends and you’ll be ready to walk out the door! Pattern and purchasing details on page 81.

HERITAGE TRAIL

|

by Amy Miller

If you’re looking for a hat that takes you in an entirely new direction, off the expected construction trail, you are going to love the way Heritage Trail is knit. This unique pattern starts by working textured stitches and simple cables that are shaped to give an easy slouch that naturally falls toward the back of your head. To finish, the crown is simply gathered and cinched, giving you a jaunty top knot to let the world know that you don’t always follow the rules! Pattern and purchasing details on page 81.

THE YARNS What a joy it has been to pair each of these patterns with the different Plucky bases and colors shown in this book. We have tried to give you a view toward some of the options you have before you. The look of a finished piece can be dramatically different, depending on which base you select within the recommended weight yarn. As an example, a garment knit in Scholar will have a different look than one knit in another worsted weight, such as Bello Worsted. And, you may even choose to add another dimension by combining two yarns, in two different bases and/or colors, to create you own unique fabric. When that happens, YOU become the designer! Our fibers originate from multiple places – both domestically and internationally. Plucky yarns are custom milled to meet MY standards of excellence, responsibility and ethical practices. Each skein is hand dyed, in our studio, using techniques we have developed and refined. When you purchase Plucky yarns, you do so knowing that these bases are not available anywhere else in the world. You can feel confident in the knowledge that I have personally developed and tested each base. I am proud of each and every skein of Plucky yarn we produce.
