ell what a busy few weeks with many members away on holiday and others taking in enjoying other local biker events. It has all been great to relax, ride our bikes and enjoying a few beers along the way with friends. So if you have any reports and pictures please pass them on to me. It was a damp start on the morning of Sunday 25th July ‘10 but the forecast was good. Eighteen biker folk from our club met at the Tamar Bridge car park at 0800 then we moved off. Leading the way was Pete Batten, we were joined by a couple of other bikers on route, then headed down to St. Columb Major where we were met by a very warm welcome from the Cornish Riders club - not forgetting the bacon butty’s and cups of tea / coffee, which was my highlight of the day. We stayed there for about an hour giving us time to chat and eat, we were then given a very extensive route card, I thought - there’s no way of following this (need lots of marshals) but as we set off, the group stayed relatively close to each other.
A couple of members peeled off in Polzeath I think to go build sand castles on the beach, the rest of us, carried on to the car park for a 15 to 30 minute stop where Trevor Pridham and myself indulged in a Magnum ice cream. Back on the bikes then heading towards Hayle, Helston and Truro following the route back to St. Columb Major to the public house called the Blue Anchor where we finished the ride and had a nice steak’ n kidney pie for lunch. Overall a good rideout, good food and good company, and the bonus of helping raising money for the Precious Live’s appeal which raised just over £140. Pete Tibbins, Safety Officer

MEMBERS REPORT …Steve Ford Plymouth Triathlon On Sunday 11th July Plymouth only annual Triathlon took place and three members of the PMCC were there taking an active part. Before you get too excited wondering how Chris “Robo Cop” Jon Varndell and Steve Ford had enough energy at 7am on a Sunday morning to swim 1.5km then cycle 40km and finish off with a 10km run I will put your minds at rest. Our three club members with a chap named Mike Greaves mustered at 0700 at Mount Batten to act as “Draft Busters” not to be confused with the American Draft Dodgers of course. Although Mike was on a Harley. Pedal biker racers slip stream the bike in front to gain advantage and this apparently is not allowed so our intrepid four rode around with the these pedal cyclists (we had engines, tee hee) to wag a finger at anyone breaking this rule. One crashed cyclist was picked up by Steve and ferried back to the start (on a real bike, Triumph Tiger) to collect his other bike (well he had a helmet of sorts) we were told later he had a puncture on this bike, so not his lucky day. We were finished by 10am with no other problems so we had our pasties, collected our goodie bags and T-shirts and hit the road. Another good job done and a big thank you to the PMCC from the organisers. Steve Ford

REVISED CHARITY SUPPORT GUIDELINES ... Rev1 by DC/PB/RB
Nomination to support a charity All club supported registered charities (must be registered and not for a named person) are to be proposed annually at the AGM. Any club member proposing a charity at the AGM must have been a member of the club for the past 12 months and should give a brief overview to the membership present as to why their proposed charity event should be supported by the members. All charity nominations will be reviewed at the next available committee meeting. Executive Committee Charity selection Each charity proposed at an AGM will be reviewed by the executive committee at the next available committee meeting for final selection and approval of support of the club for that calendar year. The selected/non-selected charities and the AGM proposing club member will be informed in writing of the decision of the committee. The committee is empowered to nominate a proven club supported charity event from the previous club calendar year.
Club supported charity event planning 1. A flyer about the charity event should be produced and reviewed by the committee no less than three (3) months prior to the date of the charity event, so as to give time for it to be advertised to club members and the public. 2. The facilities and local resources at the final destination need to be discussed by the committee at least two (2) months prior to the date of the charity event. 3. A copy of the proposed ride route should be given to the club Rideout Coordinator / Safety Officer at least (1) month prior to the charity event, to give them time to check the safety of the route and make any necessary changes. 4. The charity should be preferably a local one, with representatives who will be willing to assist PMCC with the collection of monies/ donations during the event, If a raffle is to accompany the ride, the organiser would need to supply the prizes and sell raffle tickets on the day. All monies from the donations/raffle would be passed to the PMCC Club treasurer on the day to be counted and checked with the charity representative and presented to the charity at a club meeting as soon as possible after the event. 5. If food is to be supplied by the club representatives of the charity would be expected to help with set up, serving and clearing up afterwards. Hints and Tips Your short presentation to the AGM (approx 5 minutes) should include some history of the charity and reasons why you support it and why the club should. Details you should know beforehand: Is it a local charity? When will it take place? Where will it start, go and finish? Do you have support from the charity as helpers?
If you require any clarification contact any committee member prior to the AGM
