This was the cry heard on Saturday 12th February at Morrisons Plymstock branch when Ritch and Sue Bounds, Steve and Allison Ford, Terry and Vivien Johns, Denis Callicott, John Varndell, Rob Walls and Lynda Gilson gave up their Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 pm to pack customers shopping in aid of The British Heart Foundation. The Fire Brigade were also in attendance with their mascot as was “Hearty” with a press ganged very hot Sue Bounds inside. Not only were bags packed, but Mr Varndell was heard telling many of his customers how to cook the food he was packing for them !!!! and from such a shy retiring person!!. I know Les Rainsford, the local events organiser whom we have met many times when we support the BHF on our annual charity event, was very pleased to see his favourite biker club and thanked all for giving up their time in support . Steve Ford General Sec.
As you may be aware we decided to ask for nominations for charity runs this year. This years chosen charities are the British Heart Foundation, Plymouth Food bank and Jeremiah’s Journey More info on these events will be published von the club noticeboard and via email very soon

Feature for club supplier COOKE MOTORCYCLES Having been disillusioned with the attitude taken towards customers by some of his previous employers and being to be a person who wanted to give his customers value for their money and a reliable personal service, Phil Cooke, a biker himself, decided to strike out on his own and in 2002, after a chat with a friendly bank manager, started his own business Cooke Motorcycles, in small premises situated behind Union Street, Plymouth. He has moved on since then expanding to larger premises in Sawrey Street. Millbay. (Next to Yeo and Smith). Phil’s business is still thriving, partly due to his dedication to upholding the relationship with his customers, many of whom have become good friends. Phil is proud of the fact that he has ‘not lost a customer in the past 8 years but has picked up other peoples’- proving that he must be doing something right. As well as carrying out servicing and repairs at competitive prices to all types of bike , he has introduced his latest campaign - a Winter Check for just £5.00 followed by sound advice., Phil also has a selection of used bikes at very keen prices., and says he will not let a bike go out unless he is 100% satisfied with it. You can see all that Phil can do for you, on his website at www.cookmotorcycles.com ,contact him on :

FIRST AID AWARENESS REFRESHER Sunday 20th February How time flies, was it really a year ago that we met at Cornwood Village Hall to be cosseted with tea, coffee, biscuits, triangles of nourishing whole meal bread filled with an array of succulent fair, fruit cake and other finger foods. Those brave souls who managed to prise their backs from the comfort of the Sunday morning lie-in experienced all of those wonderful delights and more. “What was this I missed?” you ask .” I don’t remember being invited to a party !” - Hey guys and gals if you have email then you were asked !!! The faithful few including a couple of Plymouth Bike Night stalwarts Kevin Cross and Colin (Big Joe) Spence gathered at 0930 on Sunday 20th Feb in anticipation and possible trepidation
of what was going to be thrown at them. Yes, it was time for the pre-season First Aid Awareness Refresher and what a turnout we had. Denis (I’m game for anything) Callicott, Jon (leaflet man) Varndell, Royston (don’t tell them your name) Pike, Rob (Giddy up )Walls, Mark (gas, gas) Hull, Jerry (Biggles) Paterson, Kevin (stainless) Freer, Ritch (Mr Chairman) Bounds, Terry and Vivien Johns, Allison Ford, Keith Wallace, Rachael Bounds plus our two mentioned above. Quite a turnout for a Sunday morning. The day went very well with plenty of participation by all. The CPR being carried out particularly well although a few tried to take advantage of the two “Annie's” even though they had no pulse. You know who you were!!!!! The bandaging or bondage as some of you thought we were into at that point was very well executed (the comment was “well it is Sunday morning after all”) as was Recovery Position and Roy’s impromptu rendition of “What to do when confronted with a road traffic accident” was brilliant especially as he was given no warning that he would be doing so. All in all I was very pleased with the turnout and especially pleased with the standard of First Aid practised by all who attended. We do not as a Motor Cycle Club have to have First Aid Aware Marshalls on our rides, but, I find it very reassuring to know that there are Club members who are prepared and more importantly have practised life saving skills to help anyone who may be involved in an accident. An interesting Sunday Morning—February 20th Its 7am on Sunday morning, I’m up and making sandwiches for the boys and girls that have given up their time for the club. “See you later and have a good day” I hear from Sue as she leaves for work. “Now, where is the mustard for the ham sandwiches?”, Ring, ring (“Who is it this time of the morning?”) Oh hello, it’s Sue - I've broken down. “Broken down?” I said, “Yes” she said. “The car is juddering and lots of black smoke is coming out the back. “Umm well what have you done to it?” I asked. “Nothing” she growled. “Just filled up with petrol”. (you know what's coming) “It’s a DIESEL car - only had it nine months”, I said —- deathly silence on the other end of the phone. “Oh........ Yeh.......... she says . Well , by this time I've got two cats and a dog thinking their luck is in with all this food lying around and daddies going out! I know — I’ll get the daughter up to safeguard the sarnies whilst I take Sue to work. En route, Sue rang Allison to say we needed help .Her reply was ,”How the hell did Ritch put diesel in? “No” said Sue. “I did it!” Ali’s reply was “Well, it could happen to anyone”. This turned out to be an expensive day. I got the AA to tow the car home, they sent out a fuel assist van the next day £75 of fuel wasted, £185 to drain the system and £75 to refill the tank WITH DIESEL. The patrolman came from Bristol and told me they have 120 vans nationwide on average 7 jobs a day 7 days a week emptying the wrong grade of fuel from vehicles. The worst offenders of this are the male species and you’re national Police force. My thoughts on this incident, You don't think I'm that brave to put them down on paper do you …..? Ritch Bounds Ride-out season is here
As you will be aware the ride-out season is all but on us, Can you help? The club always needs helpers. Would you like to leave ahead of the ride and mark a junction or next turn of direction? This would help keep the running marshals with the ride,- or would you like to be just a visible marshal in the group? Any help you think can give us would be great. There will be a marshals meeting in the very near future. At the start of this season you need to be careful when you arrive at the Legacy Hotel because Vospers are having building works completed . So when you arrive, please park halfway down on the left hand side with your back wheel to the kerb with your front wheel slightly facing the exit. The marshals will park on the right hand side one behind the other. Any help possible would be great - if you can help, contact me at info@plymouthmcc.org.uk Thanks Ritch

Plymouth Motorcycle Club Charity Ride Out, in aid of the
Plymouth Food Bank
Come and support this Plymouth charity by donating food which will be distributed to those in need. To start this event we will have a guest speaker, at the City Bus Club House after a short ride out on Monday 28TH March The speaker will be Mrs Eunice Halliday who runs the Plymouth Food Bank at the Crown Centre, Stonehouse. Eunice will give an informative talk on how this Charity supports local families and individuals throughout the City. An information leaflet about the charity and the types of non- perishable food produce which are required, will also be available on the night. You will then have an opportunity to bring food into the club each fortnight. The Food Bank can only function with the help and support of people like us. This charity event will culminate in a short ride out on Monday 18th July which ends at the Club house.
All food donated over the weeks and food brought on that night will be presented to the Plymouth Food Bank on behalf of all the members of our club. Further details will follow See you on the 28th March. Event organizer Jerry Paterson jerry@thedoordoctor.co.uk
