My day with 700hp and 55tons of Chieftain Main Battle Tank at my disposal. It started with a great ride to Avington on our Tigers then the day driving the chieftain and an Abbot Tank, an APC and lastly a great blast on the quad bikes. One to one tuition by a great bunch of instructors made it seem very easy and I didn't even dent or destroy any of the vehicles!!! Huge bacon butties and free coffee always goes down well. A fantastic day with Juniper Leisure
Fred and Ann’s favourite ride Winter in the UK,,oh no not this pair of Club members they much prefer to spend their winters in the Eastern Algarve. The following is a short summary passed to me by our good friends and Club members Fred Rayner & Ann :This is an account of our favourite short ride whilst escaping the wrath of the South West’s winter. From Tavira on the N125 we head north to Aquas Dos Fusos stopping several times to look back at the fabulous views. If you like bendee roads you are about to experience a memorable ride. The views are breath taking look eastward to Villa Real Do Sto Antonio and westward to Faro in fact you can see most of the Eastern Algarve. Now we carry on North West to Portela and Cachopo and then South West to Felteira and Barranco Veelho. Back onto the main Faro road to Sao Br’as de Alportel this is where we stop at Chicken (George, sorry different story. Ed.) Loue’s Café for a really big meal of chicken and chips, all you can eat for £4.50. ( I thought we were in Portugal, where’s the local food Fred !. Ed.) Now full of our chicken and chips we head east to Santa Catarina da Fonte Do Bispo and back towards Tavira. On the way back we were being harassed or so we thought by a Portugues car driver blowing his horn like a mad man and pointing at the trike.. Well those of you who know my trike know its not the fastest thing on three wheels but I thought we were going along quite well. Anyway we stopped to let him pass but he stopped in front of us and pointed at the space where Ann’s footrest should be. It had fallen off while we were riding and he had very kindly picked it up and gave it back to us. Well thanks for your favourite ride Fred and you have restored my faith in Portugues car drivers who usually try to run you off the road. Must be your smile ! Ed.
TOTALLY MOTORCYCLES Well it was service time again and the need to service the bike had arrived, This time last year I did the job myself but decided this year I would leave the job to the professionals so I gave Graham Voisey a ring on 01752 651300 at Totally Motorcycles. Not having used Totally Motorcycles before I had done some asking around to make sure the Tiger would be in safe hands. Everyone I asked had nothing but good words to say about Graham and Ryan so I thought I would give him a try. With the Tiger booked in for an early start I arrived to a warm welcome and was offered a mug of coffee. (that’s good I said to myself) A short discussion followed about the service and approx. time the job would be completed. I knew Graham from GT Motorcycles but not much about his back ground so thought this would be a good time to find out more. :Graham left Laira Green School in 1981 and took advantage of the Youth Opportunities Scheme with an apprenticeship at Vosper's in Millbay. Finishing his apprenticeship in 1988 he stayed with the Ford Car dealership until 1991. Fed up servicing cars led to a short spell of lorry driving and engineering with the NHS servicing equipment. Once a mechanic always a mechanic and needing a service on his bike he decided to do it himself. This led to being offered a position with Mike Grainger at GT motorcycles where he spent, (as did other employees of Mikes) 10 years of doing the job he really loves doing, bikes, bikes, bikes. Mike wishing to spend more time away from the business and more time racing his turbo charged Hayabusa at ridiculous speeds (ridiculous that is for a bus pass holding Grandad) decided to sell the business to a firm we really don't want to mention. Graham didn't like the look of this new ownership (how right he was) and when offered redundancy decided this was the time to make a move and fulfil one of his dreams of owning his own business. Armed with a few pennies and a premises in mind and the determination to treat every motorcycle in for service or repair as if it was his own him and Ryan spent many hours converting what was in motorcycling terms a “shed” into the premises he now has with up to date equipment to carry out servicing and repairs on any type of motorcycle. His office is “papered” in manufacturers Certificates and Diplomas including motorcycle alarms, meta and datatool. A week spent in Sweden with Thomas Petterson of Ohlins fame to learn the complexities of their suspension has been rewarded with many satisfied customers benefiting from correct settings. Graham has worked on the majority of Motorcycle Manufacturers machines over the years and seems to be a very competent engineer capable of a very high standard of workmanship testified by his customer base of over 300 and still growing. With two sons in the Army Graham is a strong supporter of Afghan and Help for Hero’s, Mega Ride and other Charity events. Graham is pleased Mike Grainger has Gt Motorycles back again as he spent happy times with Mike and wishes him success as do I am sure all of Plymouth motorcycle Club. Away I went with the lady wife to do some holiday shopping returning at the allotted time to find the Tiger all serviced and ready to go. A quick chat about a few extra things Graham found and put right at no charge and then the bit we all hate the dreaded bill. Quite a surprise, well under the cost I expected and then 10% off for being a PMCC member. Brilliant, already saved my 2012 PMCC membership fee and spent less than I thought. I wish the same could be said for the holiday shopping.!! Many thanks Graham and Ryan .I’ll be back for more work when its needed. Editor.
