Annual Easter British Heart Foundation Charity run

Plymouth Motorcycle Club

Editor:steve.j.ford@hotmail.co.uk

After days of cold but sunny dry weather the club looked forward to our annual Easter Sunday Heart Foundation Charity run arrived rather wet and windy but this did not deter the 147 bikes, intrepid riders and the band of stalwart PMCC members always ready to give their time to ensure both the safety of those taking part and to maximise on the amount donated to this very worthwhile Charity. Our Heart Foundation champion Les Rainford was his usual cheerful self with an encouraging word to all as they arrived at Lee Mill and then Master of Ceremony during the well supported raffle at The Royal Albert Bridge Inn who had hot teas, coffee, burgers, hotdogs and a welcoming pint for those brave souls who completed the run across the moors to Callington via Yelverton, Tavistock, Gunnislake and then onward across the Tamar Bridge, Lower St Budeaux finally our destination the RABI Inn. Yes it was cold, yes the sun would have been a bonus, but the end result was excellent with ÂŁ600 raised for our first Charity event of the year. We thank all of you for braving the weather that day to make this event so successful and look forward to seeing you all again on our Club night rides which leave from Legacy Hotel ( was Novatel) Marsh Mills on Mondays. Arrive at 7pm for a chat and we leave at 7.30pm.Marshalls always needed so your help will be appreciated. Steve Ford. Social Secretary/Editor

Easter Egg Run 24th March The following is Jon Varndells account of an event dear to his heart and one he has championed for a number of years. We met at Sainsbury’s at 10am. 8 bikes left the car park at 10.20 for the Star Inn at Liverton where we met up with 4 more Plymouth bikers and many other like minded bikers from the area. Much needed hot drinks were consumed before 40 bikes left the Star for Dartington. We met the staff and children at the Home and to the delight of the kids we handed over many Easter Eggs. We lost one bike on route and had to leave another at Dartington for the RAC with a puncture. We arrived at Paignton for our 2nd stop where again Easter Eggs were handed over to the staff and children. Our 3rd stop was to an Adult Care Home for handicapped and mentally ill. The staff were so kind they served us with cakes and drinks and we in turn handed over a large box of Easter Eggs. Our last stop was at Torbay Hospital where eggs were handed over for the children's wards. We then made our way back to the Star at Liverton for a much needed hot drink and a warm up by the fire. On leaving the Star one bike was a non starter so jump leads were borrowed from the Pub. We soon got it running and all left for home. Good day out for all but although very cold on the outside we all had that warm feeling inside. The feeling you get when you have done something for others less fortunate than yourselves. Many thanks for your account Jon, You certainly brought good cheer to many for Easter. Ed.

Plymouth Bike Nights How time fly’s. The first Plymouth Bike Night in support of British Armed Forces Charities will take place on Plymouth Hoe Promenade on Thursday May 2nd from 6pm and again on Thursday May 23rd. A change from last years monthly event to try to capitalise on the lighter evenings and hopefully better weather. A donation of £1 per person would be appreciated. If you braved the wet weather last year you know how the parking works and if you could spare 2 evenings a month to help out and as a bonus get the prestigious jacket to wear for the night and a gratuitous ticket for burger/hotdog/cheesy chips/coffee then please speak to Pete Batten or Steve Ford at the First Aid Post. The event will be held 6th & 20th June: 4th & 18th July: 1st & 15th August: 5th & 26th September. BMAD Motorbike Festival

Once again the Bmad Festival is upon us and will take place on the 3rd5th May. This of course is the Bank Holiday weekend and we all hope the weather will have improved by then. No doubt some Club members will have their pride and joy exhibited at the event taking place on the large grassed area along Paignton Sea Front. Always a good event with many motorcycles on show, motorcycle dealers, bike wear, fast foods even the fair ground for you more adventurous types.

Dean Court Vintage Rally & Fayre Dean Court Vintage rally taking place at Buckfastleigh Racecourse on 11th & 12th May. Certainly worth a visit. Beer tent,Old time Fair rides, Motorbikes, Tractors, Cars, Military, Trade Stalls and lots more. Will be great to wander around and bring back memories to some of our older members. These are just a few events that are taking place in May. You will find much, much more on PMCC web site. Editor.
