Editor Takes to the Sky to Promote Mega Ride A great bike ride to Eagle Scot Airfield in North Devon wearing our Mega Ride Tee shirts on a glorious summers Sunday to re-live my flying days way back in 1967the last time I flew what is now a vintage open cockpit bi-plane (I know , I expect you are saying ,“it wasn’t vintage when he was flying” ) I had almost forgotten how hard these things are to fly as your only view is either side of the cockpit with no artificial horizon gauge. A view over the port side of the shipyard then a roll over Appledoor Lifeboat and back to the airfield for a loop which gave Allison palpitations as the engine coughed and spluttered on the top of the loop. A side slip and half roll to starb’d lined us up nicely for a bump free (honest) landing.. Back home on the Bandits with a smile a mile wide. Easy Jet no thanks !
Plymouth MegaRide The weather was good to us and the day seemed to go well. There were a few new traders this year (world rally simulator, motocross, leather clothing and Plymouth devils). We all met at buds cafe at 7:00 am for a good old English breakfast and by 8:00am we were fit and ready for the onslaught of bikes coming for the ride. Smiling faces an bike fumes were the order of the day and the parking went without any hazards.. We had some celebrities join us (sponge bob, pat, snow white and the super heroes ) and even the dead joined in (Steve Fords skeleton) which all added to the atmosphere and the public seemed to appreciate it too. By 17:00hrs people were packing up and heading home. The boring litter hunt and gazebo packing was done by 18:30 and it was time to call it a day. Tired and weary the last remaining marshals headed home. How they felt the next day I can only guess I know my body didn’t want to do anything the next day but I was still buzzing from that day. I can’t thank everyone who helped enough, you know who you are and it goes without saying there wouldn’t be a Megaride without you guys/girls. We have already got next years design for the T-Shirt.. Hope you like it? They will be available soon. Just to let you know Modified Mania and the Megaride are joining forces for a PHOTO SHOOT (with models and various bikes including yours if you like) at GTs OPEN DAY ON SUNDAY 29/9/13 for the Megaride 2014 Calendar. GTs are offering massive reductions on bikes, clothing(1 piece suits from £100) helmets and much more. There will be music, the good old raffle, beverages and snacks and the MCN BABES.. Mike Grainger has asked the
club if we can help marshal the event. If anyone is free on that date can they be at GTs by 930.am

Last of the summer wine tour No 9 16th 19th July 2013 Sitting at home on a lazy Sunday afternoon with a week off work I watching the week ahead weather forecast (sunny all week) I decided to go over to France & Belgium for a short break, booked the ferry and return on Euro tunnel. Tuesday 16/07/13 set off at 7.00am blue skies and sunshine, First stop Morrison’s just before Wincanton 105miles fuel & food stop, all topped up set off to clakett services on M25 120 miles half hour break to stretch the legs. Final leg 70 miles to Dover arriving at 1.00pm. 1.55pm ferry arriving in Calais 4.30pm local time, 65 miles to the town I was stopping for 3 nights Ypres Belium the campsite is called Jeugdstadion, it is a municipal site very clean and only 7 euros a night, 10 minute walk into Ypres, plenty to see there Medin Gate, last post every night at 8.oopm also in the town there’s a very interesting first world war museum well worth a visit. Anyway arrived at campsite 5.45pm tent up cooked meal (well out of a tin) lovely sunny evening. Wednesday 17/07/13, sunny & very warm. Set off into France to visit the town Albert 90 miles from camp site. I visited the Somme museum which is under the centre of the town in tunnels again well worth a visit if you are into First World War history. After leaving Albert I then visited the Thiepval monument which is in the heart of the Somme battle fields. I arrived back at the campsite at 8.00pm, cooked another superb meal out of another tin. (I’m getting the hang of this cooking lark) Thursday 18/07/13. A very hot day reached 34 degrees, chilled out on campsite for most of the day, went into Ypres to watch last post. Spent the rest of the evening sitting around the camp fire (stove) Chatting with fellow bikers, bottle of wine, most of them were on their way back from 3 week tours south of France and Croatia, 15 bikers on the site. Life at it’s best. Friday 19/07/13. Tent down bike packed set off to the Euro tunnel never (been on before). Arrived At terminal 9.00am got pulled by customs and had to take all luggage off my bike, after about 20 minutes they decided I did pose a risk to the UK?, just made the 9.50am train, 35 minutes later we are back in Blighty. Using the euro tunnel is great for speed but I think I prefer the ferry. 285 miles later I was back home, although a short break very enjoyable. Tony
MSC Motorcycles Air Ambulance Charity Ride After having a motorcycle accident in sept 2012 and being picked up by the air ambulance, something I never thought I would be in need of after 32 years in the saddle, I wanted to give something back to the people who came to my aid when things went wrong. The one thing that bikers enjoy most is riding their bikes so a charity ride seemed the obvious thing to do Having never organised a ride out before i contacted the air ambulance to see if they would be ok if i organised a ride out in their name, they said that would be fine and offered help with advertising and supply a banner and charity collection buckets The next person to speak to was Ritch Bounds for advice on organizing such a ride as it was something he had done many times, So with the air ambulance approval and information on what to do a date was set a start and finish point arranged fliers printed bike clubs and media informed we were ready to go On the 23 June we left Lee Mill industrial estate about noon with around ninety bikes taking part in the event. We joined the A38 heading east for approximately fifteen miles before exiting at the Ashburton junction to follow the river dart slowly working our way up onto the top of the moor where the weather was a little breezy but not too damp we carried along passing Dartmeet until reaching two Bridges where we turned left on the Princetown road. After passing Princetown we carried on to Dousland were we turned left passing Meavy and Cadover Bridge before arriving at our finish point MSC Motorcycles where there was a classic bike display from Maurice Crout, Bike Club stands from the Plymouth Motorcycle Club and Plymouth MAG as well as a burger bar for refreshment The event went well and by the time we arrived at our finish point the sun was shining everyone had a good time and we raised £400.00 pounds for the air ambulance I would very much like to thank everyone who attended the ride out as without bikers attending events like this then there wouldn’t be any I would also like to thank everyone who helped on the day and with advertising the event, with a special thanks to Ritch and Sue Bounds for their help and support, cheers guys Ride safe Ride free

Cornish Triangle Run A good day was had by all 7 of us. There was one shower of rain , so we stopped & put our wet gear on then carried onto our first stop at Penzance to fill up with fuel and rest our bums. Arrived at lands end , had lunch and a walk around then met 2 guys who rode on a JAMES 250CC and a Royal Enfield 250cc 2t both two strokes from John-O-grotes, to lands end. Then onto the A30 to start our ride to Bude good ride to St.Kew highways stopover, rest our bums again, then again onto Bude. We arrived there at 3: 30 ish. We had tea, or in my case cream tea with scones & clotted cream, after that we made our way back to Plymouth. 218 miles. Good enjoyable ride-out .
