Plymouth Motorcycle Club
Speaking to a packed club house Mark Cooper from MSC Motorcycles kept everyone glued to their seats for a full 25mins. The topic, “MOTs Mark was explaining what MOT testers have to do and what to look for whilst putting a bike through the test. Once again Mark made the talk informative, engaging and entertaining, not an easy thing to do when you are not used to talking to a room full of people. After the talk Mark had a questions and answers session, many questions were put to Mark, ranging from the MOT printout to the thickness of brake pads, how a bike is weighed, and how the effectiveness of the brakes are measured, and did you know that all advisory information is kept by VOSA, a point worth remembering for the future The vintage Vincent bike that Mark brought along proved to be a big attraction as well with many members taking the time to have a good old look at it. Very interesting to see how technology has moved on from 1927 to the present day. Got a problem your worried about for your MOT? give Mark a call on 01752 346000 he will be glad to help.

Now, is this an attempt to make life more comfortable for the residence of St Mellion? make the roads safer? slow down traffic? or maybe make more money? “you decide An average speed camera works by calculating your average speed between two cameras. The first camera will record your number plate the second camera will do the same thing, if you are over the average speed set, you will get a ticket. Under no circumstances should you count on the 10% rule, that would be fatal, the average speed the cameras are set to is determined by the camera partnership or the governing body, if they want they can set the cameras at the speed on the particular bit of road concerned. No doubt a lot of you will think, why has he told us the obvious, we know that already, well then, I suggest you sit along the side of Gdynia way for a while and see what happens there. The road through St Mellion is a very popular route especially in the summer months, used a lot by bikers, so please keep your eyes open for these cameras. When they are installed no doubt the news will travel like wild fire.

MEET THE CHARITIES NIGHT
Well what a brilliant evening, representatives from all the charities except Operation Henry who were double booked were at the club to give a 10min talk on their charities and what they do. The evening started with a photo shoot for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) headed by Les Rainsford. Les has been the rep: for the BHF for many years, as most members will know the BHF is also the first charity ride of the year taking place on Easter Sunday. This year it is on Sunday 5th of April. A packed clubhouse greeted the reps, with the members giving each of them a warm welcome. A wall of silence fell over the clubhouse whilst the reps: were telling us about their charities, always a good sign that people are interested and “want to know The reps: for the charities were, Les Rainsford (BHF) Andy Field, Brian Finch, Bob Harrison and Alice Inman (Dartmoor Rescue) Sarah NuttalWorsley (Jeremiahs Journey) Lesley-Ann Simson (Chestnut Appeal) Dave Snelling (Operation Henry) Dave unfortunately could not attend. Many thanks to these charities for giving us their time and talking to us.
Marshalls are needed for the Plymouth Bikenights, if you can put in just a couple of hours to help out that would be great. It’s a very rewarding job in the sense that it helps the charities and if you are of the more “tender age group” it helps you to keep fit as well, better than sat in front of the telly all night. Why not give Pete a ring, you can get him on 07501339103
Monday the 23rd was a lovely day, a bit cloudy but the sun did find the odd gap in the clouds to shine through. When it was time to go for the first ride of 2015, it rained, well, thick drizzle to be precise, not nice. Just before 7 the drizzle cleared, the riders left at 19.30, yep, you guessed it, the drizzle started again. Sods law and Murphy's law came into effect together then. Despite the weather and the road conditions six bikes and seven riders turned up for the first ride. Yelverton was the destination of the first ride, getting there via the A38, Callington, Tavistock and ending at the Rock Inn at Yelverton for a well earned drink and of course to warm up a bit as well. Even though there was drizzle and wet roads, this years first ride got off to a better start than last years, members will remember that ride was cancelled because of torrential rain, so when you look at it that way it’s not so bad. A big thank you to the Marshals that turned up. For all the latest news go to www.plymouthmcc.co.uk
