ello all and welcome to the May edition of the news letter, thing are really starting to get going, it was a busy Easter, I went up to the Poppy Bike show at Crownhill fort, and on Easter Sunday, we had the British Heart Foundation Charity Ride, and great weather, good company and 195 bikes made for a great day out! On a more serious note, personal safety we all know how important it is to wear the right kit, or protective clothing, a good jacket, gloves and Helmet are essential, so please guys check your gear every time you get on your bike, and remember if the helmet doesn't feel right, you may have made a mistake, like picking up the wrong helmet and gloves, just like Ken bush did at the Ipplepen ride, and then rode all the way home thinking his lid didn't fit correctly! Well that's it from me for this bit, I'm going to hide from ken for a while, he still has the photo of me asleep at the Celtic rally with a pint in my hand, and im going to France with him in June, so he has got plenty of time to get his own back.

Hi Guys and Gals, Well the first charity run of the year has been completed. What a contrast in the weather and turn out. Sun, Sun, Sun and more Sun was the order of the day which brought out the bikers big and small two, three, and four wheeled riders came totalling 195 (Pete Tibbins counted them). Donations and raffle ticket sales helped us raise over £900 on the day, and the generous donation from Denise (landlady of the Royal Albert Pub) has meant we have met the £1000:00 which was my goal mark. Well done everyone. It goes without saying that without the hard work of the marshals, Sandy Jones, Les Rainsford,Pete Batten , Denis Callicott the charity Run wouldn’t have been the success it was. Thanks to you all and sorry if I’ve forgotten anyone. Ritch Bounds Chairman PMCC
Paignton Bike Festival Hi guys and girls BMAD have requested our help marshalling at the Paignton festival Should people who are experienced at this kind of thing then just turn up during the weekend. They need to make their presence known at the BMAD on site "office, either the caravan or the marquee. They will be provided with a hi viz waistcoat, invited to lend a hand in a specific area and be issued with a ticket to get a free hot drink and burger in return for 4 hrs marshalling. NB please see our article on marshalling
The Royal British Legion Riders, Poppy bike show On Easter Saturday I went to Crownhill fort to have a look at the Poppy Bike show, that was organised by the Royal British Legion Riders Branch, I have never visited Crownhill fort before, its bigger than I thought and I admit initially I was a bit sceptical about the venue for a bike show, well I was wrong to be sceptical, the venue was perfect, the ground was good with more than adequate bike parking, and good facilities and its an interesting place to take a walk around. There were trade stands from many of our club supporters GT Motorcycles, Guppa-Pro Tyres, Jerry’s Refinishing and JD Racing around 35 trade stands in total attended the event. On my arrival I bumped in to Denis Secker we had a wander round and bumped in to Roger and Chris Yetton and their rather interesting R1100 GS side car outfit, I've seen a few sidecar outfits on the roads in France and in Spain but never a GS! Looked pretty impressive, but not for me, I once went in a zeppelin side car on the side of a Vincent out to Matlock, never again! Well a good day was had by all around 1500 to 2000 people attended through the day there were prizes in the bike show and a raffle, and they raised around £3000 for the poppy fund, very good for their first year. Bus lanes for bikers in Plymouth now on a permanent basis The following is an article copied from the this is Plymouth web site BIKERS will be allowed to use Plymouth bus lanes on a permanent basis after an 18-month trial cut the number of accidents by up to three quarters. Plymouth City Council introduced an experimental order allowing motorcyclists to use bus lanes in October 2007 following a sharp rise in the number of collisions involving motorbikes, despite a significant drop in the number of road accidents generally. Now the council is introducing the traffic order on a permanent basis after figures show the scheme was a success. Road safety officer Tom Jenkins said: "Since the introduction of the bus lane trial, motorcyclists have not been weaving in and out of traffic as much and this is probably the main reason why the number of accidents has fallen. "Bikers have been heeding our advice about not using the bus lanes as 'fast tracks' to beat traffic queues and have been driving considerately and sensibly." Road safety officers have been monitoring accident statistics and traffic flow before and after the trial and the number of motorcyclists killed or seriously injured across the city fell from 22 in 2006 to 14 in 2008. Before and after studies on bus lane corridors in Exeter Street and Tavistock Road showed that there have been fewer motorbike casualties during the trial and they were reduced in severity. On Exeter Street the number of motorbike casualties fell from eight in 2006 to two in 2008 and on Tavistock Road the number of serious injuries fell from two to none. By putting a safe distance between cars and motorbikes, the council believes the system makes bikers more visible to car drivers and reduces 'weaving' in and out of traffic. Councillor Kevin Wigens, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "We're really pleased that we've been able to replicate the success of similar trials in other parts of the country and reduce the number and severity of motorbike accidents here in Plymouth." The decision to approve the full traffic regulation order has been made under delegated authority and is subject to call-in by scrutiny.
R J Bounds Chairman PMCC 8th March 2009 Re: Committee meeting 7th March 2009 To All Marshalls It has been brought to our attention that people may be joining the PMCC with the intention of seeking help from Marshalls with their own charity/events. Our Club Marshalls are the most valuable asset the PMCC have, as without them ride-outs would not be possible. With the current situation regarding the club ride-out’s which include Thursday recce rides for the Monday long and short runs and club supported charity events, the Marshalls have enough to do throughout the season. 1, A proposal was made by P. Batten and seconded by R. Pike that the PMCC Marshall’s should only be committed to Marshalling PMCC official events. 2, If a PMCC club member wishes to support other events/club/organisations with their Marshalling duties, then they should be able to do so, BUT NOT wearing a PMCC HI-Viz jacket or anything suggesting that PMCC or it’s representatives are involved with the running of the event in any way. The reason for this is that it could lead us to liability and prosecution in the event of an incident. This proposal was voted on AND passed unanimously. Yours Faithfully R J Bounds Chairman PMCC
Try and help ken find the right helmet and gloves Just for fun help ken find his helmet and gloves by drawing a line to link the correct people to their stuff
Finally a few words from Ken " I am a numpty, I obviously had a senior moment, or rather half hour. I do not live in an error free world, unlike some lucky people. I make mistakes, pay the price, move on. Anyway next month someone else will cock up. To be quite honest I don't give flying @@@@. All I will say is look out for your kit whilst I am around because you will never know when a senior moment may take me again." Ken
