The first Beckly Centre Charity run took place on Sunday 18th May, and it turned out to be a successful event for the organisers and participants.

N E W S L E T T E R

The weather had been forecast as being nasty for the weekend - but the forecasters proved to be wrong and the sun shone on the 70+ bikers who attended at Lee Mill for this, the first time have we organised and run this event. The start time of 1.15 was delayed for 15 minutes by having to wait for Police outriders to escort us onto the A38 and then safely off at South Brent, but, at the end of the day it shows that they are committed to safety and at least the group was not split by cars. The route took us from Lee Mill to Totnes, then towards Dartmouth, where we turned towards Kingsbridge via Slapton . It was an impressive sight to see the bikes strung out along the Ley as we ‘tail enders’ were still on the top of the hill. The marshalling by club members, ensured that all the riders in the group stayed together, and it remained that way to the finishing point at The Beckly Centre, Plymstock, where the staff and parents had organised a Barbecue and raffle. As usual - Thanks to everyone. I have included a letter from Beckly on page 3.

A group of bikers from the club took these young’uns to their Prom night - report on page4

Plymouth Motor Cycle Club FUND RAISING EVENT

SUNDAY 18TH MAY SUPPORTING BECKLY

The sun shone on this special event run by the Plymouth Motor Cycle Club with over 60 bikes enjoying a leisurely ride through the South Hams, finishing up with a BBQ at the Beckly Centre at Plymstock - which raised £ 402- 00……. from the collection at the start, food and raffle. The proceeds will be used at Beckly to provide additional special activities and improving resources at Beckly for children and young people with disabilities so they can join in more varied social and play activities, events and sessions. This event was organised to raise essential funds for the Beckly Centre, which is a local Plymouth based registered charity that works with and for children and young people who are disadvantaged by learning, physical or other specific disabilities - facilitating their participation in, benefiting from and enjoying inclusive social and play activities through out the year at out of school times - when otherwise they could feel isolated or excluded. Beckly offers these children and young people affordable access to regular sessions within small peer friendship groups covering a wide range of leisure activities and life skills at the centre, with opportunities for trips and outings to community venues and events. All of the children and young people attending Beckly have some special need that requires extra care and assistance to enable them to engage with other young people in the informal play and social activities. At Beckly , we aim to provide fun, the chance to interact with others, create friendships, share experiences and learn together social and life skills, within a caring, secure and supportive environment. Beckly also enables the parents, siblings and carers of these children to benefit from some valuable respite from the continual demands of caring, so whilst their child is entertained at Beckly, families and carers can have some quality time for their own needs and that of other family members. The Beckly Centre is situated at Plymstock, adjacent to Radford Woods, which was a beautiful setting for the afternoon BBQ that was prepared by parents and committee members from Beckly. Beckly would like to pass on sincere thanks to everyone involved in the ride for their support and generosity, which has resulted in this excellent donation to support essential activities and improve resources at Beckly for children and young people disadvantaged by disability.

THIS Years MEGA-RIDE will take place on Sunday 15th June 2008 - Please give us your support on the day - anyone who would like to help, however little - please let us know - we need all we can get! A ten year-old boy was walking down the street when a big man on a black motorcycle, pulls up beside him and asks, "Hey kid, wanna go for a ride?" "No!", said the boy, and he kept on walking. The motorcyclist pulls up to him again and says, "Hey kid,, I'll give you £10 if you hop on the back" "NO!" said the boy and proceeded down the street a little quicker. The motorcyclist pulls up to the boy again and says, "Ok , I'll give you £20 and a BIG bag of sweets if you hop on the back for a ride." At this point the boy turns around to him and screams angrily, "Look Dad, YOU bought the Honda, so YOU ride it!!

PROMise fulfilled! Members of the club were asked by three students whether we would be able to take them to their Prom night at St Mellion Golf Club. Several of the lads and lasses volunteered and following a ‘how do we work it’ session and meeting with the two girls and one guy Violet, Hannah and Liam and their parents, we decided that , rather than bike them all the way from their homes to the venue, - we would meet them at the golf club entrance and take them down the driveway at walking pace - that way they could wear their prom gear and not mess it up with a helmet / jackets etc. The procession consisted of a lead bike followed by three Blackbirds carrying the ‘prommers’ accompanied other club members behind them. The girls looked fabulous in their prom dresses and the guy in his bow tie. The different transports being used had to be seen to be believed - there were limousines, tractors and trailers, a red Ferrari, a fire engine, old cars , buses and a massive American lorry type tractor unit dripping with chrome. - fantastic.! Well - our procession was applauded as it arrived and the feedback from the teenagers was that theirs was the most talked about arrival of the evening so job done! Violet, Hannah and Liam send thanks to all the members who gave their time to make it a memorable day for them.

WELSH TRIANGLE RUN

This Sunday 1st June - for those of you who like a long ride and a challenge -the WELSH TRIANGLE RUN Departing from Lee Mill at 9.00 am sharp - -Make sure your tank is full! - first stop planned is Taunton Dean - so if your tank will not get you that far - make sure you tell us, so we don’t split up the group! Then on to Abergavenny, Brecon Rhondda Valley etc. and return journey back - This is a new one for us - so it’s a suck it and see ride! There will be stops on the way for petrol and refreshments etc. Distance is around 400 miles. Weather permitting - will be decided on the day! Time it will take - unknown, - but plan for a whole day! Welcoming New Members - keep an eye. From time to time you will see new faces in the Club and on ride-outs, could I ask you as members , if a committee member is busy, or just as a gesture to make them feel welcome? It can be a bit strange at first (which is natural) . So - if you do spot someone on their own -perhaps ask them how they enjoyed the ride, talk about their bike, explain the ride rules etc.- put them at ease. We want to keep them in the club once they ’ ve attended . Thanks. Denis - Membership Secretary Guy on a Triumph pulls up to a toll booth. Toll collector says "Two pounds". Triumph rider says "Sold!" A Biker, walks into a pharmacy & says to the pharmacist, "Listen, I have three biker babes coming over tonight. I've never had three at once before, & I need something to keep me horny, keep me potent." The pharmacist reaches under the counter, unlocks the bottom drawer & takes out a small cardboard box marked with a label "Viagra Extra Strength" & says, "Here, if you eat this, you'll go NUTS for 12 hours!" The next day, the biker rides down to the same pharmacy, walks right up to the same pharmacist & pulls down his pants. The pharmacist looks in horror as he notices that his wanger is black & blue with the skin hanging off in some places. The biker says, "Gimme a tube of Deep Heat" The pharmacist replies, "DEEP HEAT?! You're not going to put Deep heat on your dick while it's in that condition surely?" The Biker says, "No, it's for my wrists, -

the girls didn't show up."

Anyone willing to help? - excerpt of a letter from Club member. I would be really grateful if the club members could be asked if they would come and escort our son, Liam to his school prom. It is at St Mellion Golf Club on Wednesday 2nd July to arrive at the golf club for 7.00pm. Mark is going to drive him in on the Suzuki Volusia, and I hope to have my bike by then and be back on the road to join in as well. Liam would be really chuffed if some of the club could come and join us taking him in to the venue. Thankyou Sharon and Mark Wellington.
